Steephill Art Club In September 2019 I started an art club at my studio in Saltdean. I had to suspend it in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but we started again, twice a week, in September 2021. I set it up because I wanted to offer local people the opportunity to try different areas of art whilst having fun in a sociable environment. The first rule of art club is – enjoy yourself! I provide all the materials plus refreshments - all you need to do is turn up. People have a go at whatever they feel like doing – I have lots of paints; pencils; pastels; inks; glass and ceramic paints; canvases; paper of all persuasion; glass and ceramics to paint on and sketchbooks to keep a record of your progress. I have tutorial books, magazines for inspiration and even a TV. (We watched a Eurovision semi-final and a good time was had by all!)
My art clubbers displayed their work during my open studio plus we had a glass of wine and nibbles. People of all abilities are members from total beginners to the more experienced. Everyone is very friendly, we have a chat and a laugh while we create. I am always happy to help, guide and explain when it’s wanted. We start again on 8�� September due to my studies for a Masters Degree in Fine Art, I will be running sessions on Thursdays, 10:00 am to 12 Noon and 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The cost is £10 per session per person. I have a limited number of spaces, so each week I need people to let me know if they will attend. Interested? Saltdean Townswomen’s Guild Showing off our Townswomen’s Colours Showing off our Townswomen’s Colours Seems a while back now, but over the Queen’s Jubilee weekend in June, our Guild was on show, and didn't we look good! The Saltdean Lido Committee had an exhibition over the Jubilee weekend, showing how the Lido building will look when it is completed, hopefully, next year. This landmark, iconic 1930's building, is now, being refurbished, the local community and the Lido committee has been doing a great job of raising and finding funds to get this underway. Also on show in the exhibition marquee were local charities and groups and that is where we stepped in. Our Chair, Audrey and Cecily made a display stand, showing some of the activities and work we do. Audrey also made sashes in TG colours, Elaine made hatbands, Diane organised the literature and Susan did lots of lifting and driving….a real committee effort. During the day, Friday 3�� June, we had further help on the stand from our members and as it was sunny and warm a few were considering going into the pool for a swim! Reverend Josiah Povey's School Charity Concert The Reverend Josiah Povey's School Charity (Charity no 306436) was founded by will in 1727 and registered with the Charity Commission in 1960. Josiah Povey was the rector of St Laurence church in Telscombe village back then and made provision for the education of the children of the parish. The charity now is dedicated to providing 'special benefits not normally provided by the local education authority'. The last grant given by the trustees enabled musical instruments and instruction to be offered to children at Telscombe Cliffs Primary School. It is remarkable that the legacy of Josiah Povey has lasted so long. These days investment gives poor returns and sums are severely reduced by inflation so the trustees are looking at ways to augment the amount available to donate. A group of singers who have given many enjoyable concerts in the past are performing a fund-raising concert on September 17�� at 2:30 pm. We hope you will be able to come along and enjoy it.

Peacehaven and Telscombe Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group Peacehaven & Telscombe Neighbourhood Plan supported in consultation The latest round of community engagement (March/April 2022) showed that 90% of the consultation responses received, supported the Peacehaven & Telscombe Neighbourhood Plan (PTNP) vision for the towns to be sustainable, with clean air and an environment providing a good quality of life and well-being for all inhabitants and visitors. Responses also emphasised the need for more social infrastructure and services such as health services, school places and retail provision. The plan and accompanying reports have collated these responses as part of the evidence base for the draft Neighbourhood Plan policies and these will be presented to both Town Councils in the Autumn. The documents will then be submitted to Lewes District Council for further technical checks and assessments and hopefully this will lead to a local referendum for adoption of the document in 2023. If adopted the Neighbourhood Plan will be the start of an on-going living document that will help Peacehaven and Telscombe manage area changes and encourage future economic growth. The plan will continue to be reviewed and updated through to its replacement in 2030. (Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites Osteopathy Tips EMOTIONS IN THE BODY Do we hold emotions in our body, how do they get there and what can we do to release them? Neuroscientist Professor Candice B. Pert, Ph.D. wrote about this in her book 'Molecules of Emotion' and why we feel the way we feel. Basically, she proved that the neurotransmitters, neuropeptides, and receptors responsible for laying down memory in the brain are found throughout the body. Chinese medicine has taught for centuries that we store emotions in the body, attributing a particular emotion to a specific organ. Therapists working with the body on a deep level, even working gently recognise that 'the issue is in the tissue'. In her amazing book 'A Change of Heart' Claire Sylvia describes her experiences after a heart and lung transplant. "She had a vivid dream about a young man she felt strongly was her donor, at the same time she found herself fighting urges to eat fried chicken and drink beer, neither of which she had liked in the past. Troubled but excited, she tracked down the family of her donor - the 'family of her heart' - who confirmed what she already suspected: their late son, Tim, had loved nothing better than fried chicken and beer. After talking to other transplant patients who had similar experiences, she became convinced that some form of 'cellular memory' exists and that when vital organs are transferred from one body to the other, cravings and feelings, and perhaps even memories and dreams are also transferred." An example is when we experience the loss of a loved one, the 'heartache' of bereavement can be a very physical experience. Such extreme emotion is too much for us to fully process in one go, so our bodies very cleverly seem to store the emotion in the heart as a protective measure. The healthy option is to then process and release this emotion at a later date when we have more resources to cope with it. Too many stored emotions can start to take their toll and we may find we start getting pain. The heart and lungs attach to the neck and effectively 'hang' off it and the heart attaches like a sling to the base of the skull, so we may start to experience neck and shoulder aches. In my experience, particularly in working with organs (visceral osteopathy), it seems that we can store any emotion in any organ; if the 'fear' organ (kidney) is already full, we can store our fear in another organ or tissue where there is space.
The choice of storage location may be related to surgeries, injuries, scars, and body positions when an extreme emotion is felt. Our emotions and how we deal with them is a very personal and individual experience with no two people or situations alike. In treatment, I do not go 'looking' for people's emotions or how to release them unless they have specifically requested help with this. With respectful and sensitive treatment, however the body will decide when it is ready to release stored emotion and surprisingly this is often not necessarily accompanied by an expression of emotion, though it may be. It is possible that a person may shed a tear or cry, though often they do not and report later that they feel better about a situation or event and may be more able to talk about it since treatment, they may express emotion later or have a dream that helps the process. In my experience, working with the organs seems to release more emotion than any other part of the body, so it seems that the Chinese had something to teach us about that. As well as Osteopathy, I have other gentle yet powerful skills to help deal with emotions. Flower remedies help to release emotions and we have probably all heard of Rescue Remedy which is a combination of Bach remedies to help in a crisis; each remedy can help in a specific way as Dr. Edward Bach discovered after observing people's response to flowers brought to them in hospital. I am fortunate to have a cupboard full of wonderful remedies from around the world. Sound therapy or Vibrational healing using tuning forks has many applications as well as helping to balance the energies and flows in the body to release stuck energy and emotion; gongs and healing with the voice are also powerful yet gentle tools. Communication techniques from NLP, Hypnotherapy, and Core Transformations can help a person to feel relaxed and comfortable to release held emotions when they are ready.
