Welcome Page Welcome to the June 2019 edition. This months front cover is by Colette Langton who told me “this photo is a community picture and a special one: I'm part of a fitness group, Z-energy, based in Peacehaven. Earlier this year we lost a very special lady, who was part of Z-energy and lived in Peacehaven, Saturday the 18 May we all took part in a 5K Run2Music, in Brighton and we raised over £1000 for the Martlets, in memory of our dear friend”. Well done to everyone who took part.

ean Views Repair or replace ... the constant dilemma If you are a competent repair person you should have a rough idea of the causes of problems from the customers description. Ultimately any machine can be fixed but the cost must not be excessive. One of the hardest things when trying to repair a computer is knowing when to stop. I am constantly hearing horror stories of others who have ploughed on leaving the customer with a big bill and a compromised machine. The customer will not thank you for spending four hours, presenting a bill and still not resolving their problem. My philosophy is if after an hour you don't have a reasonable working theory then stop, if there is a reasonable chance of success I will discuss the options with the customer before continuing, they must have the choice if you are spending their money! One must also consider the cost of replacement. To replace or renew a hard disc is roughly ÂŁ150 (including the HDD), a new replacement tower starts from ÂŁ300.

By Bruce Cameron-Stuart
Apologies for stating the obvious but the only part of the repaired machine will be new, the hard drive, the rest continues to deteriorate. A new tower should be faster, modern and much further from a terminal failure but that is immaterial if it is outside the customers budget. I was an early adopter for accepting debit and credit cards. It is partly for my convenience but also allows the customer to utilise a credit card to spread the burden of a big bill. My role is to provide choices with a clear explanation. As an outsider I cannot second guess whether the person I am dealing with can afford to spend the money or chooses to spend their money - it's none of my business. It's easy to spend other people money......

Pitchside View
Awesome…
By Pitchside View
PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE won the Sussex FA RUR Cup in some style. They defeated Bostik League South East side Haywards Heath 3-0 in a game that Peacehaven were never in any danger of losing. With a crowd of 410 of which around three quarters were supporting Peacehaven, Haven fans rose to proud manager Mark Shutt’s challenge, and became the twelfth man. They sung and chanted their hearts out for the whole game, helping to inspire Peacehaven to a famous victory. Peacehaven came into the game as underdogs. They played brilliantly throughout and could have easily won by a greater margin, and gave probably one of their best displays of the season. On nineteen minutes defender John Elliot opened the scoring for Peacehaven after brilliant control in the box by Curt Ford. Haven’s army of fans erupted. In the 37th minute Peacehaven doubled their lead when Brocklebank slammed home his penalty kick after Ford had been upended in the box.
After Peacehaven manager Mark Shutt said: “It was amazing, I’m shocked, I’m speechless.” He then composed himself and went on to say: “We raised our game. We got to the final by expressing ourselves. I told the lads to go out and impress their family and friends and our amazing supporters.” He continued: “Mental strength is important, and we have that in abundance; this result is great for the club.” “This result is also a great launch pad for next season.” Final score; Peacehaven & Telscombe 3, Haywards Heath 0. Peacehaven & Telscombe: Secka, Kilula, Grant, Durling, LeGrange, Brocklebank, Ford, Scrafton, Hart, Elliott, Wiltshire. Subs: Cheeseman, Burton, Massen, Amarteifio, McDonnell.
And then on 65 minutes it should have been all over. Wiltshire was chopped down in the box for Peacehaven’s second spot kick of the afternoon. But this time, the normally reliable Brocklebank skied his effort over the bar. On 82 minutes the game was effectively over when the outstanding Charlie Durling, normally to be found in midfield but today playing outstandingly in defence, found himself in Heath’s box. After a scramble the defender lashed home his effort from close range to make the score 3-0 and job done.
You can hire the club’s clubhouse from £150 by calling Sue Norwood on 07946 107041. Find out more and keep in touch with Peacehaven & Telscombe FC at www.peacehavenfc.co.uk on Twitter and Facebook.

Telscombe Village Club Telscombe Village is a hidden gem nestling in the South Downs. Virtually unchanged for nearly a hundred years, the village owes much of its charm to one man… Ambrose Gorham was the local squire and village benefactor between 1885 and 1933. A professional bookie and race horse owner, he established a successful racing stables in the village from where his mare Shannon Lass won the Grand National in 1902. He installed running water and electricity to the village and provided the Village Club as a community facility for his racing staff and village residents. It was rumoured that Gorham set up the Club to stop his lads and the villagers going to nearby pubs, getting drunk and spilling the beans about his race horses. Ambrose Gorham owned a substantial amount of property in the village and a large area of surrounding farm land. On his death in 1933 he left his estate including the Village Club to be held in trust. The Gorham Gift was intended to keep the village as it was in Gorham's lifetime, preserving its tranquil nature for the benefit of the villagers and residents in the nearby communities of Telscombe Cliffs, Saltdean and Peacehaven. Set in an attractive lawned garden with feature well, the Club has a well-appointed kitchen with cooking facilities, a large bar area and a splendid inglenook fireplace as well as modern central heating. The Village Club is currently managed by a committee of local residents chaired by the vicar of the village church of St Laurence. Every year, the Club hosts a Summer Party, a Harvest Supper and Christmas Children's Party for local residents. It is also available to hire for private events. If you would like to attend any of our events or book the Club for your own celebration, event or activity Please contact Mr Alan Baker, Booking Secretary on info@alanbakeronline.com for details.

(Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites: EMOTIONS IN THE BODY Do we hold emotions in our body, how do they get there and what can we do to release them? Neuroscientist Professor Candice B. Pert, PhD wrote about this in her book 'Molecules of Emotion' why we feel the way we feel. Basically, she proved that the neurotransmitters, neuropeptides and receptors responsible for laying down memory in the brain are found throughout the body. Chinese medicine has taught for centuries that we store emotions in the body, attributing a particular emotion to a specific organ. Therapists working with the body on a deep level, even working gently recognise that 'the issue is in the tissue'. In her amazing book 'A Change of Heart' Claire Sylvia describes her experiences after a heart and lung transplant. "She had a vivid dream about a young man she felt strongly was her donor, at the same time she found herself fighting urges to eat fried chicken and drink beer, neither of which she had like in the past. Troubled but excited, she tracked down the family of her donor - the 'family of her heart' - who confirmed what she already suspected: their late son, Tim, had loved nothing better than fried chicken and beer. After talking to other transplant patients who had similar experiences, she became convinced that some form of 'cellular memory' exists and that when vital organs are transferred from one body to the other, cravings and feelings, and perhaps even memories and dreams are also transferred." An example is when we experience the loss of a loved one, the 'heartache' of bereavement can be a very physical experience. Such extreme emotion is too much for us to fully process in one go, so our bodies very cleverly seem to store the emotion in the heart as a protective measure. The healthy option is to then process and release this emotion at a later date when we have more resources to cope with it. Too many stored emotions can start to take their toll and we may find we start getting pain. The heart and lungs attach to the neck and effectively 'hang' off it and the heart attaches like a sling to the base of the skull, so we may start to experience neck and shoulder aches. In my experience, particularly in working with organs (visceral osteopathy) it seems that we can store any emotion in any organ; if the 'fear' organ (kidney) is already full, we can store our fear in another organ or tissue where there is space. The choice of storage location may be related to surgeries, injuries, scars and body positions when an extreme emotion is felt. Our emotions and how we deal with them is a very personal and individual experience with no two people or situations alike. In treatment, I do not go 'looking' for people's emotions or how to release them unless they have specifically requested help this. With respectful and sensitive treatment, however the body will decide when it is ready to release stored emotion and surprisingly this is often not necessarily accompanied by an expression of emotion, though it may be. It is possible that a person may shed a tear or cry, though often they do not and report later that they feel better about a situation or event and may be more able to talk about it since treatment, they may express emotion later or have a dream that helps the process. In my experience, working with the organs seems to release more emotion than any other part of the body, so it seems that Chinese had something to teach us about that. As well as Osteopathy, I have other gentle yet powerful skills to help deal with emotions. Flower remedies help to release emotions and we have probably all heard of Rescue Remedy which is a combination of Bach remedies to help in a crisis; each remedy can help in a specific way as Dr Edward Bach discovered after observing people's response to flowers brought to them in hospital. I am fortunate to have a cupboard full of wonderful remedies from around the world. Sound therapy or Vibrational healing using tuning forks has many applications as well as helping to balance the energies and flows in the body to release stuck energy and emotion. Communication techniques from NLP and Hypnotherapy can help a person to feel relaxed and comfortable to release held emotion when they are ready. The patient is always in control of their own process and how we deal with it. We are happy to advise you on your health matters. Open Garden Weekend for Martlets Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July If you are interested in horticulture or simply enjoy a beautiful garden then Martlets Open Garden weekend is for you. A range of unique gardens will be open to the public on the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July as local gardeners open their gates to help raise funds for hospice care.
Martlets launches ‘Cuddle Up’ campaign to raise £25,000 - supported by BBC designer Sarah Moore Martlets is launching a ‘Cuddle Up’ campaign to raise £25,000 supported by designer Sarah Moore, from the BBC’s ‘Money for Nothing’ upcycling show. The appeal is aiming to raise funds to help make patient rooms feel more like home for them and their families during their time at the hospice. It is often the little things that can make a big difference and after listening to patient feedback, the team at Martlets realised that making changes to the hospice rooms would enable patients to enjoy some real home comforts in the precious time they have left. These changes could include having a sofa or a chair big enough for loved ones to cuddle up on, a homely colour-scheme or even fun-themed children’s bedding for when youngsters are staying with their mum or dad. Designer Sarah Moore lives in Sussex and has a very personal connection with Martlets. Her close friend Emma, a popular designer who worked with her on ‘Money for Nothing’, was a patient at the hospice. Viewers of the show have been fundraising for Martlets in her memory. Sarah said, “Martlets delivered amazing care for Emma when she was really poorly. I’m so happy to support the Cuddle Up Appeal; small design changes can have a big impact on wellbeing and quality of life, and it’s important to balance great design with the practicalities of care.” Ruth Tierney, Martlets’ Ward Manager said, “Time is such a precious thing, time to love and be loved, time to say all the things that need to be said and time to cuddle together. With fundraising help we could make simple improvements that would make a world of difference to our patients. We want to create a space where it’s easy for loved ones to snuggle up, talk, laugh and comfort each other together. We’d like our wonderful supporters to help us to raise enough money so that our patients can enjoy all the comforts of home whilst they are at Martlets. We hope that people will really take this campaign to heart and help us make this possible.” For further details or to donate please visit themartlets.org.uk/cuddleup
Opening her garden this year to support Martlets for the third time is Helena Hughes who commented: “I am opening Challoners’ gardens in Rottingdean to raise funds for my favourite charity Martlets, that will go towards their substantial running costs. These gardens have always been my pride and joy and it is a pleasure to share them with others. There will be locally grown plants for sale, refreshments, I hope it will be another happy and memorable occasion.” Liz Davies, Martlets Community Fundraising Officer said: “We are so grateful to our Open Garden hosts for giving their time and sharing their amazing spaces for other people to enjoy the
