Colette described this picture as ‘Not all poppies wear red.' We all loved the colour of this and the activity inside! I have attended a Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting today, it was at Burger n Bird who provided an excellent breakfast and space for us to meet and form relationships. It can be very lonely when you run your own business so it was nice to meet other people, network and provide a bit of support for each other. Nice to see that some of our social groups can get up and running again. Southern Stomp are leading the way and their new class is on page 38. The Rottingdean Whiteway Centre can be found on page 35 giving information on their new classes for September. Let’s hope many more follow suit and advertise again with us to make this a brilliant and vibrant place for community information and activity. ean Views What? No NUCs?... ....time to panic What is a NUC? Well, it is the essence of a computer in a box roughly 4 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches. I like them because I can match them with virtually any screen, keyboard and mouse on the market. It has most of the advantages of an all-in-one without the high costs, poor specifications and bad reliability. So, I have a problem on my hands, after many years my default choice of computer system, the Intel NUC, is out of stock everywhere in Europe. What to do…. Luckily there is an alternative lurking on the side lines, the Gigabyte Brix. My main supplier has been nagging me to try the Brix for years, now I have been pushed into it. I have recently sold three Brix variants and been impressed. At the budget end of the range the Brix Pentium J5005 is nippier than the Intel equivalent with more contemporary features.

The mid-range i3 offers six USBs and twin monitors in a slimmer package. The slightly larger i5 version is stunning, capable of running four screens and two high speed SSDs, matched with a 27” screen, it is an object of desire. Frankly, I have not found a single model that is not an improvement over the Intel equivalent. Gigabyte offers AMD variants as well. Suddenly the Intel range is looking rather tired. So bye bye NUC, hello Brix…….

Well, it’s all moving in the right direction, hopefully! Our Guild is gathering momentum and all things being equal will have commenced with a lunch on 14�� July, according to when this is printed! Due to the shortage of meeting places, and with the Lido Halls being out of action for a while, we have moved venue and our monthly meeting day. Now we meet on the second Wednesday in the month at St. Martin’s Church Hall, Longridge Avenue, Saltdean, so our next meeting, with fingers crossed, will be Wednesday, August 11�� at 2:00 pm. Obviously, this is going to press before any major Government announcements have happened, just hoping for the best!
We are looking for new members, so if you are already ‘One of us’ think about bringing a friend along or mention the TG to your neighbours. On Thursday 8th July, Havens Community Hub donated over £100 worth of cat food to Denton Cat Rescue. The Denton Cat Rescue now has 11 new kittens to feed as well as 17 adult cats who are seeking their forever homes. Working with a local member pioneer for the Peacehaven Co-op Food store, Havens Community Hub secured premium feline food to donate to the rescue. In addition to this, there is also a collection basket in the exit foyer of the Sainsburys store in Newhaven. Denton Cat Rescue are a small independent Cattery that is located on the outskirts of Newhaven. Their aim is to provide rescued kittens and cats with a home before they are rehomed to their forever family. With the new additions, Denton Cat Rescue is asking the general public to help support with the initial and ongoing vet bills as they can amount to over £1,500 per treatment depending on the health of the cat when they arrive at the rescue as some of the animals have been abused, neglected, or were made homeless due to ill health or their owner's death.

�������� ��� ����� We have built in responses in our nervous system that help the body to ‘save’ itself from a stumble, fall or insult. The reflexes that make your leg jump when you hit below the knee cap are part of this wonderful system. This reflex is the quadriceps, the large front of thigh muscle, activating and when it tightens the leg straightens. We have no control over this response and it happens instantaneously as our nervous system reacts to protect us from harm, or when being tested to simulate the reflex response by tapping below the knee. In life this happens in response to pain or injury without hitting below the knee. For example, when we stand on something hot or sharp, the nervous system responds very quickly and the quadriceps on the front of the opposite leg will tighten to help you stand strongly on that leg; at the same time the hamstring, the large muscle at the back of the leg will activate to bend your leg backwards at the knee, taking your foot away from the hot or sharp impact. Another example is when we touch something hot or sharp with our hand and it draws away from the stimulus with lightning speed. This is a similar response from our nervous system using similar reflexes that we have in our arms. These are healthy responses where our nervous system attempts to keep us safe from harm. These same reflexes are activated when we stumble or fall, as the body attempts to keep us upright and safe. It seems that sometimes, these muscles can remain too tight after a stumble or fall and then pull on the joint over time, long after you have forgotten the incident. For example, I find many patients complain of unexplained knee pain, which often responds to specific treatment to calm the muscle response and settle the system back to normal. It is as though the response gets a little ‘frozen in time’ and keeps the muscle tight. When we actually fall and have an impact, we are usually aware of where we have hit the body and may even have a bruise or break to show this. Often we can find bruises and have no memory of how they happened; the body, however seems to remember everything that has ever happened to it and particularly through the ‘intelligent’ fascia that supports and surrounds
everything. I wrote about the body memory in an article on ‘The Fascial Network’. We are usually aware of what hurts at the time of a fall and may just brush it off as nothing as after a few days we compensate, move a little differently and no longer feel the hurt. The body is wonderful at compensating, though over time, too many compensations can lead to other problems as the body has less compensation ability and starts to give symptoms. I wrote an article about “Body Compensation and Scars”. I often find that patients come in with aches and pains that they have no real explanation for and that seem to have started ‘out of the blue’. While taking a detailed case history of everything that has happened to that person, there is often a history of a fall or accident in the past. The impact that goes into the body during a fall, whiplash of other accident can have a far greater impact than we imagine at the time. It is due to the wonderful ability of our body to keep us safe and functioning that we are able to ignore many of these insults, until we have done that too often. Whilst there is no clear scientific evidence that this occurs, I have treated many people for such conditions and helped to alleviate their suffering. Once the symptoms have eased and more normal function is restored, I encourage patients to have regular MOTS to keep themselves well and ease out the compensations that they may be unaware of carrying. Seeking help for injuries when they happen as well as regular maintenance treatment can help you retain your vim and vigour and potentially avoid bigger problems at a later date. What does it mean to meditate? We have all seen things on TV about people sitting stationary for long periods, burning Joss sticks and listening to strange music. Not for me, I thought until I received this article, Chris Odle has a unique take on the practice. Meditation means observing how the whole system of your body works in connection with the surrounding environment. Meditation is about: 1. Setting aside deliberate time to slow down either by sitting still or with slow, intentional movement. 2. Directing attention to the reality of the moment using a focal point, the breath or other physical sensations. 3. If your attention wanders, notice it and gently guide your attention back. It takes practice to be aware of your present surroundings rather than thoughts only.

If you can develop a healthy mind, your body can be healthy too. You are practicing studying the bodies physical sensations and the emotional response and the thought sensations of the mind and how each one relates. In this way, you're observing the whole system of body and mind or spirit if you prefer in connection with the surrounding environment. I would draw your attention to one aspect of mediation, gentle walking. It moves every joint of your body, builds a pattern, encourages better blood circulation and helps your joints and connective tissues to stay strong and mobile. Whilst you walk, do it mindfully. Build awareness of how your body feels you have the added benefit of being in nature. Notice your surroundings that form the reality of your present moments. If your thoughts start to come in and your attention wanders, notice it and gently guide your attention back. If you build on this and practice it once a day consistently, you are guaranteed to feel so much better in body and mind; you will also feel more healthy from the exercise.
Its uses ease anxieties about the past or future and help you to find calmness and clarity. With practice, that calmness and clarity will eventually be available upon demand.

Peacehaven and Telscombe Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group Updated vision, aims and objectives for Peacehaven and Telscombe Neighbourhood Plan The Peacehaven and Telscombe Neighbourhood Development Draft Plan is due to be released soon for consultation. The Vision for the Neighbourhood Development Plan Peacehaven and Telscombe town aims to be sustainable, with clean air and an environment providing a good quality of life for all inhabitants and visitors. Objectives following from the vision are: ● All new development helps to deliver better local facilities and infrastructure for the towns. ● Access to and through the National Park and along the Coastal Path will be improved as multifunctional routes for tourism, travel and recreation, further linking the areas within Peacehaven and Telscombe to surrounding areas. ● New developments will create connected, attractive cycling and pedestrian routes, providing seamless integration with the existing towns facilities and public green spaces to encourage a reduction in car-based travel. ● Improvements to existing walking and cycling routes will be undertaken to encourage more active movement and well-being of the local community. ● Existing habitats and green infrastructure networks are protected and enhanced through sensitive development, to encourage local habitat improvement and creation. ● Encouraging a high-quality sustainable design approach to all development which promotes design innovation and sustainable development. ● Improve local air quality and provide reductions in carbon emissions by supporting… The journey to complete a plan was started seriously in 2018 with the “FIRST CONSULTATION “ where an exhibition accompanied by a public survey helped shape the vision, aims and objectives for the future of the two towns. The responses revealed main concerns:
