Welcome Page On our front cover this month is one of the Peacehaven Open Gardens belonging to Alison & Dave Standing. You can see more about this on page 50. Peacehaven has a new restaurant in town. Maloncho will be opening their new restaurant doors for the first time on 5�� April. Also we welcome a new business to Peacehaven, “Baked by Me”. We noticed it while having some lunch in Cebo’s cafe. They sell cake making items and everyday sell a selection of homemade cakes and drinks for you to take away at a very reasonable cost. Is DAB finally being taken seriously? Recent events may unleash the potential.... All political parties are itching to turn off FM radio to auction off the bandwidth. The barrier is the glacial progress being made towards creating alternative ways of transmitting existing radio stations. As the commercial DAB supplier was bursting at the seams extra capacity was needed. A second commercial multiplex was agreed but at the start of the recession the original winner backed out and no-one else would accept the risk. A new tender process is in progress with parties bidding to launch a minimum of 15 new stations. The winner will be announced in June with the new stations going live in 2016. Patchy coverage has been a constant criticism of DAB. New transmitters will be created to fill the holes in the network and to allow local commercial and BBC stations to go digital. The current DAB franchise model does not make allowance for small scale, local DAB. A couple of Ofcom engineers have come up with a small DAB kit for a mini multiplex for a few extra stations. This initiative means small stations like Seaford FM and Juice FM can afford to go digital. Many local stations like BBC Solent currently split their FM and MW transmitters for different football commentaries. Ultra local DAB will allow this to be more efficiently focussed. Next year should hopefully see a re-birth of DAB......

A testing season

AS THE MAGPIES first season in the Ryman Premier League draws to a close, it has been a testing season both on and off the field. The jump to the Ryman Premier League has seen the club enjoy mixed fortunes on the field, but a league finish just below half-way looks likely.

After going 3-0 up in the first half hour, they were pegged back to 3-3 and then the home side scored again to register a thrilling 4-3 victory.

In order to stay in this league, the club has had to complete £30,000 of ground upgrade work. To fund this it embarked on its Stand or Fall campaign. All the work has to be completed by March 31 and then the club must go through an agonising ground inspection to see if the works meet the required standard. If they’re not up to scratch or there’s any work outstanding, the club will be relegated to the Ryman South League, regardless of their final league position.

PEACEHAVEN ROVER COMMUNITY BUS SERVICE The contract between East Sussex County Council [ESCC] and Community Transport for the Lewes Area [CTLA] for the Peacehaven Rover Dial a Ride Service [previously Peacehaven Taxi-Rider] will expire on 11�� April 2015. Following a review of the supported bus network, East Sussex County Council did not re-tender for the service. This decision caused considerable concern to the users of the service. CTLA, ESCC, local community groups and interested individuals have been working together to try to achieve a cost effective solution to provide an alternative service.

CTLA has launched the “Get on Board” fundraising campaign to purchase a new 4 Towns Community Bus that will provide the replacement service. The current 4 Towns scheme, part funded by the Haven’s Town Councils, has proved to be invaluable in providing community transport services for some of the most vulnerable residents of Peacehaven, Telscombe and East Saltdean as well as Newhaven and Seaford. You can support the campaign by sending donations to: CTLA, Hillcrest Community Centre, Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, East Sussex, BN9 9EA (Cheque's payable to CTLA)

CTLA are pleased to announce they and ESCC have or online at www.localgiving.com/getonboard agreed alternative funding to enable CTLA to provide a replacement service that which will cater for the current passengers of the Peacehaven Rover service. ESCC and CTLA are committed to continuing to work in partnership, together with other community transport providers, to secure alternative funding from other sources to meet increasing demand for their support.

PEACEHAVEN OPEN GARDENS SATURDAY & SUNDAY 27��/28�� JUNE 2015 2 - 6 pm. Tickets £4.00 each to cover both days. This year we have a wide selection of gardens for you to visit, a few for the first time. We have large, small, container, contemporary & community gardens. Refreshments will be available in the gardens and you will also have an opportunity to purchase arts & crafts. So come along and join us for a great weekend with proceeds being donated to St Wilfreds Hospice, Eastbourne.
