Well what can I say about the coming months? I have taken out the What’s on Guide# pages and the club adverts as there seems no point at the moment having them in. Looking at the government guidelines though they should all be cancelled. They will however be back up and running in the Autumn I am sure.

I have noticed that the CTLA are offering to shop for people who are in isolation, just give them a call. There is also a group on Facebook called Peacehaven Covoid 19 mutual aid who are in the process of setting up help for people who are immune suppressed or self isolating with regards to supplies etc. Once I know more I will keep as much information as I can on our Facebook page. It would be good if we can make sure our elderly neighbours and relatives have and know how to access the Internet. I have just heard that Community House is shutting until further notice. They have postponed events coffee mornings, markets and the Summer Fair. They have advised that anyone with tickets to the cinema or the VE Day event to hold onto them as these things will go ahead eventually. The Civic Centre is also closed to the public until further notice.

So here are some relatively cheap techy toys to chew up if you are stuck at home. DAB Radios, instantly increase the choice of listening material, my personal favourite is BBC World Service with its wider view of current affairs, history and the arts. TV Sticks, provide a cheap way to access pay TV. Most services charge around £7.99 monthly for their basic service after buying a NOW TV or Amazon TV stick for about £30. The stick plugs into a HDMi port at the back of your TV. Kindle books, are digital books that can be downloaded at a discounted price. Amazon sells dedicated Kindle readers and Amazon Fire Tablets.

A free Kindle Reader app can be downloaded on a raft of tablets, PCs and Laptops. Podcasts, are (mainly) free digital audio series downloadable to phone, tablet or computer. The format is usually very similar to a radio series. My favourites are “13 Minutes to the Moon” and “The Gerry Anderson Podcast” YouTube, is not just second-rate music videos and cute kittens. Dig a bit deeper to find expert (and not-so expert) pundits on every imaginable subject. YouTube is a great free resource for everything from learning to program in C++, to Cross Stitch, wildlife photography and unblocking a sink.

PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE have made it through to the final of RUR Cup – the second most senior cup competition in Sussex football.

This will be the second time in two seasons that Peacehaven have made it to the final, last season they ran out winners by 3-0 against Isthmian South East league side Haywards Heath.

Peacehaven were awarded a penalty. Up stepped the normally reliable Jake Brocklebank but to the disappointment of the Peacehaven fans, he dragged his effort wide.

In this year’s final Peacehaven will meet Eastbourne Town after overcoming AFC Uckfield 1-0 with a ninth minute goal from Tyler Capon.

And then it was extra time and still the deadlock couldn’t be broken and a penalty shootout followed which Peacehaven narrowly lost.

The game was marred by a nasty injury to Peacehaven’s Charlie Lambert who had to be taken to hospital with a broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder.

The team did themselves and the towns of Peacehaven & Telscombe proud with their style of play and supreme effort, but it is Eastbourne Borough who go to the Amex Stadium and face Brighton & Hove Albion U23s in the final.

A good football contest in the first half was followed by a very physical encounter in the second which saw three Uckfield players sent off. Peacehaven lose the Sussex Senior Cup semi-final In an incredible game at the home of the Sussex FA, Culver Road, Lancing, Peacehaven lost a dramatic penalty shootout against National League South Eastbourne Borough, 5-4.

Home games coming up are: Saturday April 4, Loxwood. April 11, Eastbourne Town. April 18, Hassocks. Kick-off 3pm. Check the club’s website for any rearranged fixtures which may have been added.

Eastbourne Borough’s league status is three divisions above Peacehaven’s and they had several ex-league players in their ranks including former Brighton & Hove favourite Dean Cox. Prior to the game, the general assumption was that Borough would win with ease, but Peacehaven had other ideas. Throughout the 90 minutes Peacehaven stood toe to toe against their illustrious opposition, taking the game to them and causing them all sorts of trouble and belying their lower league status. In the 90�� minute Peacehaven had a gilt-edged chance to win the game when after a foul on forward Curt Ford,

Peacehaven and Telscombe Neighbourhood Development Plan In 2013 Peacehaven and Telscombe Councils designated an area for a joint Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) At the end of 2017 serious work began when a Steering Group was formed of residents from both Towns. Mostly behind the scenes since then we have been gathering evidence and commissioning reports to inform the finished document. Why do the Towns need an NDP? There are many benefits including financial but the main benefit is that Communities have a say in how their town develops. Where and how development takes place, what Local Green Spaces we want to protect.

There has been some Community Consultation and throughout the Spring and Summer there will be more. If you would like to get involved please contact us. Our NDP can not be at odds with The Lewes District Council Plan but we can set policies and design codes for our Towns as well as designating where we want development to take place and where we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t want it. We will not achieve all of our ambitions but we will make our views known and expect to achieve most of our wishes. Points to note 1. 2. 3.

We have been allocated 255 more homes to find by 2030 We do not cover the A259 in the NDP. We can look at local transport getting around internally within the Towns. We can draw up our own Master Plan for the Meridian Centre which will inform and influence what any developer plans.

Editors Note: I attended one of these meetings in early February and I was very impressed with the people who are leading this initiative but we need town input. Please do not feel it is a forlorn hope because as I saw, it is not. If we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a voice regularly this year and fight then we cannot complain in the future. PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE BOWLS CLUB Have you ever wondered where the Bowls Club is in Peacehaven? We are located in the Piddinghoe Sports Park at the end of Piddinghoe Avenue, on the opposite side of the car park to the Football Club. We have an excellent six rink green that is maintained to a very high standard by Peacehaven Town Council, an extended clubhouse with good facilities and an outside raised viewing platform. We are a very friendly club with approximately 80 members. We also have wheelchairs and bowling arms to enable disabled members to participate in the game too.

Our outdoor season begins on Saturday 18�� April and runs until the end of September. We have a full programme of friendly and league fixtures throughout the season, playing both home and away matches, as well as several social events for members. During the winter months we also have facilities to enable members to play short mat in our pavilion. OPEN DAY – SATURDAY 2�� MAY We’re holding an Open Day on Saturday 2ⁿ� May, 10:00 am -2:00 pm. New members of any age are most welcome. We also hold coaching sessions on a Monday afternoon during the season for new members.

Local Experts Support Martlets’ Will Writing Fortnight Thirteen local Will writing experts are supporting Martlets and helping people in Brighton and Hove plan for the future during ‘Will Writing Fortnight’ 11-22 May 2020. The Will writers are offering their expertise in return for a donation to Martlets to help the charity continue to provide care for people living with terminal illness and their families across the Brighton & Hove area. For many people, thinking about what happens after they’ve gone isn’t easy, however, having a professionally written Will can offer peace of mind for them and their loved ones. A Will can also help ensure that a person’s wishes are followed and that people or causes that matter to them can be properly looked after. Having a Will is particularly important for families, parents, cohabiting couples and for those with dependents that are unable to care for themselves. The Martlets Will Writing Fortnight booking period for appointments opens on 13�� April until the 8�� May, anyone can set up an appointment with a local Will writer by selecting from the list of supporting companies at www.martlets.org.uk/give-in-your-will. Booking through the Martlets scheme offers a significant

78 year old Brenda and Granddaughter Dare to iDrop 450ft for Martlets A group of intrepid fundraisers will be stepping out of the British Airways i360 pod, 450 ft above Brighton beach on Friday 1 May for Martlets. Among them will be Ellis Mills and her nimble nan, Brenda Avery aged 78. Ellis and Brenda are doing the night-time i360 iDrop to raise funds for Martlets in memory of Karen, Ellis’ mum and Brenda’s daughter who was cared for by the hospice. Ellis commented: “My nan is an inspiration to everyone the way she takes on a challenge and I am so proud of her for doing this with me. I know I’ll also be very grateful for her support, as even if I get nervous she’ll make sure we go through with it and step out backwards out off the platform! We are doing this to raise funds for Martlets as they looked after mum so well, giving us incredible care at a very difficult time and continuing to support us as a family.” Brenda said “I like to think that you are never to old to try something new although this is certainly a bit nervewracking. It is wonderful to know that I have Ellis at my side and there will friends and family below to support us and cheer us on. My great grandchildren will be there and I hope they will see that whatever happens in life you can always do something positive to help others and give back no matter what age you are.”
