ean Views Arrogance never sways the public ... the sad tale of the doomed Microsoft phone When Bill Gates stood down from head of Microsoft he passed the organisation into the "safe" hands of Steve Ballmer, his trusted lieutenant. After two decades of continuous growth the sales were starting to slow down. Ballmer and his inner circle identified Apple as their major threat. An arrogant, near fatal decision was made. Windows had evolved from Windows 95, through to Windows 7, with only gradual changes to the way a user navigated the computer. The thinking was they could maintain customer loyalty by creating a universal look with touch screen friendly boxes to operate on servers, PCs, tablets and mobile phones; it worked for Apple - it will work for Microsoft. Realising it needed a major partner in mobile phones it signed a deal with Nokia, the world's biggest mobile phone company. The big idea was that the new Windows 8 would have big, chunky boxes on the screen so your computer looked like your mobile. The attitude showed utter contempt for the millions of loyal Microsoft customers who had to battle with a host of changes so the interface was the same on PC, laptop, tablet and phone.

The tail was wagging the dog. The public hated it, most professionals hated it. Ballmer basically said it's the future -get use to it. Initially Windows Mobile was only available on a handful of phones; expensive, poorly implemented and lacking the apps customers demanded. Nokia had to phase out the ones people wanted to buy to launch Windows phones. Samsung and Apple thrived, Nokia shrivelled. The introduction of cheaper, underpowered Windows phones failed to make any impact. Eventually Microsoft purchased Nokia to prevent it going bust. Ballmer resigned. This deeply flawed project ended in ignominy with a 0.03% share of the new smart phone market. Last year Bill Gates switched to an Android mobile phone - with Microsoft apps. Windows Mobile was quietly put to sleep. Updates and security fixes will continue for the next year or two but all new development has ended. Windows 10 has slowly evolved to remove the most hated Win 8 features. All this chaos a phone no-one wanted....

THE FOOTBALL SEASON is now on the homeward run and Peacehaven & Telscombe still have their sights firmly fixed on a top six finish. For most of the season, the club has been in the top eight in the league and briefly was in top spot. The plan this season was to improve on last season’s 14�� place league finish and so far that plan is on course. At the end of season 2015/16 season, the football club was staring into the abyss. With debts of over £80,000 and rising the club’s future looked bleak. There did not appear to be a way out. But then the decision was made to turn the club into a community fan owned football club. Shares were sold, sponsorship sort, debts were restructured and a new manager was appointed. The club will be free of its historical debt by this April, which is a huge testament to everyone involved with the club. Match day attendance has improved, the club is now the second highest supported club in the league, and on the field after last season’s credible finish there is now an outside chance that this season Peacehaven & Telscombe could be promoted. A huge achievement indeed.
This football club is a huge community asset. There are more than 200 youngsters registered to play for it, the club fields a total of 21 teams each week and it now has its own dedicated football academy. If you have some spare time and are looking for voluntary work, Peacehaven & Telscombe FC would love to hear from you. Interested? "I had a lovely Christmas Day at Coffee Haven. Claire and her family made myself and others from the community so welcome for a great lunch. Thanks." Janice "What a great surprise for all of us at church to receive a diary, and a special book to help us read the bible throughout the year. My new years resolution… to use it every day. I think we may need 100 next year as the congregation continues to grow. The 70 we purchased soon went." Debbie "I really enjoyed the church day out to Chichester and the cathedral carol service. Bridgeford’s Best Bites: Osteopathy Tips - Applied Kinesiology Many people think that Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a treatment, whereas it is actually a diagnostic tool that is used in combination with other standard methods of diagnosis to assess aspects of health. What is AK? AK is a non-invasive system of evaluating how a person’s body functions using manual muscle testing as a feedback mechanism. Used correctly, it should help to evaluate the best form of treatment or therapy for an individual patient. Basically, when a muscle does not test as functioning properly, the practitioner will investigate the reason and apply the remedy that restores normal muscle test response to help the patient. I tell my patients it is like we are using the muscle responses to have a conversation with their nervous system, as muscle testing is primarily concerned with neuromuscular function and how it relates to structural, chemical and mental physiology. Treatments may involve joint mobilisation, myofascial techniques, cranial techniques, acupuncture meridian therapy, clinical nutrition, dietary management and various reflex procedures. After treatment, it is possible to retest to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment on the individual. Origins of AK: Doctor George Goodheart, a USA chiropractor first introduced manual muscle testing to evaluate body function in 1964. Knowledge and research into AK has grown considerably since then, expanding its dimensions as a diagnostic tool of bodily dysfunction, modifying and evolving techniques and introducing new ones. Even in the early days of AK, it was apparent how the use of many treatment methods in Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Homeopathy produced improved neuromuscular function, which could be directly measured using AK. Triad of Health: In AK, balance of the major health areas is represented by each side of an equilateral triangle representing structural, chemical and mental factors of health. A person with ill health will have an imbalance in one or more aspects, distorting the triad. Each aspect can affect the other, e.g. a chemical imbalance can affect organs such as the gut or liver and affect also mental and physical health. AK helps the practitioner to evaluate the triad’s balance and apply the therapy towards creating a balance on all sides to restore health. What can be Treated? The basic structural issues that may take you to a healthcare practitioner, e.g. back, neck and joint pain, sciatica, headaches and migraine, postural abnormalities, disc injuries, nerve irritation, acute onset and minor sports injuries. Additionally, other functional and systemic disorders may be addressed, including hormone related issues, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep pattern and stress related disorders. What to Expect in an AK Treatment? When visiting an AK practitioner, expect to be involved. The practitioner will first take a detailed medical history and perform the standard diagnostic tests, followed by a variety of muscle tests to assess areas of dysfunction. They will test for basic mechanical defects, the possible connection of visceral (gland or organ) dysfunction, stress levels in the body and where indicated cranial and pelvic distortion and toxicity/allergy problems. The practitioner and patient work together during manual muscle testing, giving the patient the opportunity to be actively involved in their treatment process. This helps the patient to have greater understanding of their treatment process and thus adopt a greater sense of responsibility towards their health; they can also experience the feedback via the muscle testing. AK uses the principal that the body is a self-maintaining, self-correcting mechanism and its innate wisdom knows what is wrong; the practitioner needs to ‘ask’ the right questions to discover the nature of the imbalance and watch the body’s response when it says ’yes please’. Treatment may involve a combination of structural work, guidance in self- treatment, nutritional support, remedies and treatment to aid stress related problems.
