BT will only release additional funds if the Government gives them tax concessions. Openreach has the money but BT will not let them spend it. It looks inevitable that BT will be forced to dispose of Openreach. Does Openreach become a state utility like the National Grid or co-owned by its customers? (TalkTalk, Sky, BT, PlusNet etc). There is an argument for the collaborative approach, the others have hinted they would contribute more capital in exchange for a faster roll out of services, lower bulk prices and a share of the business. SETI famously used unused computer capacity on volunteers computers to number crunch the raw data received from space to search for alien life. It is finding helpers are abandoning them to sell their free capacity for "mining" for crypto currencies like Bitcoin.

Rather bizarrely there are no compatible AMD motherboards on sale, whilst the Intel motherboards start at £150 (a premium of £90 over a popular 7th Generation board).

Do you hate exercise? I do... My first feeling is resistance - from years of pushing myself to exercise in order to lose weight. There was a time when I didn’t want people to see how fat I was. I didn’t enjoy it, ever. I still hate the gym and I don’t go. A lot of my clients have exactly the same problem but I have good news for you: you don’t have to go to the gym if you join my program. We will find a way to improve your physical activity that is comfortable for you and that you love. So, what do I advise people to do? I ask them to move. It is much more powerful than you realise. What our bodies need is movement. So instead of feeling guilty about NOT going to the gym, think of ways to be more active. Whatever the level your fitness is right now, you can start moving a bit more. You can park your car further away and walk, or take the stairs any time you see the opportunity, play your favourite music and dance… Count your steps! You will be surprised how many you can clock up doing housework or walking briskly to the shops so you don’t need to find any additional time or money to increase your level of fitness. Your motivation should be health, not weight loss.

Do 5-10 minutes of any type of movement that you like doing once every hour. If you do that 7 times a day that would be 35-70 minutes of activity. If you do this 7 days a week that is 4 - 8 hours per week. More than enough! When you get back to work your productivity will go up so you didn’t waste any time. People walked everywhere and used bicycles as there weren’t many cars around. They were more active. Also, they didn’t have huge fridges! Tubes at home for 40�� anniversary gig

ICONIC 70s and 80s punk rock band Peter & The Test Tube Babies are coming home to celebrate By Pitchside View their 40�� anniversary. They will perform for the first time in their home town at Peacehaven & Telscombe Football Club on Saturday April 7. As part of the band’s 40�� anniversary celebration they are rerecording and re-working their 1982 track Peacehaven Wild Kids. The original song has been adopted as the football club’s anthem and band founding member, Del ‘Strangefish’ Greening who grew up in the town, is re-working the song to give it a 21�� century feel. Greening said: “Dan Palmer, the club secretary wrote to me on Twitter and asked if we would be interested to write an anthem for the team to come out to at home games.” “I wrote back and said we would love to do it, as both Peter and I are both from Peacehaven and used to come and support the club in the late seventies.” “The original song was recorded as a ‘B’ Side in the eighties so we’re delighted the fans and people involved around the club have picked up on the track and asked to use it.” The four piece band are still touring and before they play their historic Peacehaven gig they will have performed in Hungary, Poland, France, Scotland, Ireland as well as several dates in England.

Since their first album in 1982, The Tubes have released thirteen further albums, their most recent, That Shallot, in 2017. News from the Deans Preservation Group Last Wednesday 7th February, the council held a 'closed door' meeting which is still surrounded in secrecy despite their 'press release' below. Brighton & Hove’s Planning Committee has decided not to defend its decision to refuse a planning application for 45 homes on land south of Ovingdean Road after considering legal advice. The refused planning application is subject to a planning appeal due to commence on 24 April. The discussion on 7 February included legal advice relating to a live appeal so had to be held in a confidential session. Councillors were recommended to withdraw two of the four reasons for refusal (below) and to then consider the resulting planning balance of the appealed proposal. Weighing up the planning benefits the scheme would bring against the remaining reasons for refusal they agreed that the Local Planning Authority should no longer defend the planning appeal. Unreasonably defending a planning appeal can lead to an award of costs. Chair of the Planning Committee, councillor Julie Cattell said: “I recognise that this was a difficult decision for the Planning Committee. Our decision to refuse the application still stands and the appeal hearing will proceed. We appreciate that there is very strong public interest in the application and residents will be able to make their representations to the Planning Inspector who will ultimately determine the application.” The planning application is for outline planning permission to build 45 one to five bedroom houses on land south of Ovingdean Road on the urban fringe of the city. The application proposes that 40% should be affordable, split between homes for rent and shared ownership. 1) Harmful impact on ecology and biodiversity; 2) Harm caused to setting of Ovingdean and Rottingdean Conservation areas and loss of gap between the villages; (withdrawn) 3) Increase in traffic would have a harmful impact on the Air Quality Management Area (AQMA); (withdrawn) 4) Overdevelopment and loss of local landscape character.

The reasons which have been withdrawn are: ● Harm caused to setting of Ovingdean and Rottingdean Conservation areas and loss of gap between the villages ● Increase in traffic would have a harmful impact on the Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) The DPG considers these reasons are of substantial significance. We will be taking advice on the legality of this decision and what we can do to challenge it. We have less than 2 months to go before the inquiry on 24th April. The DPG will keep you posted as much as we can, but we will need your help more than ever to continue the fight to retain this last green field between Rottingdean and Ovingdean. Bridgeford’s Best Bites: Osteopathy during pregnancy Pregnancy and particularly the birthing of a new person into being, is a life changing experience for both parents. Although it is a natural process and part of a normal life cycle, each pregnancy is a unique experience. During pregnancy the mother’s body experiences a myriad of physical, chemical, hormonal and emotional changes. The growing baby inside the uterus, requires that the mother’s body makes space and that her posture adapts. Each woman responds differently, depending on her previous history. Past pregnancies and accidents may have affected the mechanical workings of the spine, pelvis and coccyx, whilst illnesses may have a bearing on the tissue state of the body. These factors, plus the natural loosening of the ligaments in preparation for birth, may lead to aches, pains and fatigue. How Osteopathy can help: ● To ease some of the discomforts of pregnancy. ● To help with optimal foetal positioning. ● To help prepare the mother’s body for the demands of labour. Discomforts of Pregnancy - First Trimester: Nausea and Vomiting (morning sickness): Osteopathy may help to release the debilitating physical strains caused by vomiting, restoring musculoskeletal harmony and balance. Helping the body to improve circulation to and from the liver may help reduce nausea. Discomforts of Pregnancy – Second Trimester: This is generally potentially the least troublesome trimester, though some of the third trimester issues may arise. Aches and Pains: These can occur as the body changes shape to accommodate the increasing size and weight of the uterus, involving considerable postural changes. Pre-existing back problems or strains from past accidents or trauma can make it more difficult to accommodate these changes, resulting in discomfort. Hormones encourage the ligaments to soften during pregnancy in preparation for the birth, when the bones of the pelvis separate slightly during delivery to facilitate passage of the baby’s head through the pelvis. This softening happens throughout the whole body, making it more vulnerable to strain during pregnancy. Poor Posture: This can be a cause of headache, backache, neckache, aching legs and undue fatigue during pregnancy. Osteopathy can be helpful in assisting the body to make postural changes, making the pregnancy more comfortable.

Discomforts of Pregnancy – Third Trimester: Heartburn (indigestion): The expansion of the uterus can put pressure on the diaphragm, contributing to heartburn. Osteopathy can help to encourage a sense of space around between the structures to reduce this tension and may relieve the heartburn. Breathing Difficulties: Postural changes through the lower ribs and spine can affect the action of the diaphragm, making breathing more challenging. Osteopathy to improve function of the whole ribcage may help to increase available lung capacity. Varicose Veins and Haemorrhoids: These can be caused or aggravated by increased tension in the pelvis or diaphragm area affecting the return of venous blood to the heart from the lower half of the body. Osteopathy to relieve tension in the pelvis and diaphragm may be helpful. Birth Preparation: Optimal Foetal Positioning: As the birth approaches, with reducing space to move around, the baby needs to be in the optimum position for delivery, ideally head down and facing backwards. Any past trauma to the pelvis, sacrum or coccyx may distort the birth canal potentially affecting the baby’s decent, so it is helpful to release these strains. Structural Balance: Ensure that the pelvis is structurally balanced to enable passage of baby down the birth canal. Osteopathy can help release past strains within the pelvic bones, muscles and ligaments, aiming for better chance of the bones being able to separate during delivery. Exercises: (best learnt under guided instruction) ● Spend time on all 4s with a straight back to encourage optimal foetal positioning and relieve low back ● Warrior yoga pose to help release iliopsoas muscle; to relieve low back and enable descent in second stage ● Frog yoga pose to gently prepare for opening the pelvis ● Keep active, walk tall, avoid slouching on the couch ● If low back is over-arching, bring the weight slightly toward the heels to help encourage straightening the low back We are happy to advise you on your health matters and offer a free 15 minute joint and spinal check, without obligation. NEWS FROM ASCENSION CHURCH The month of February was very busy at church. A few highlights have been .... The visit of the choir from Chichester Cathedral with their assistant organist was a deeply moving experience on February 4. The church was absolutely packed, including visits from the Mayors of Peacehaven and Telscombe. To have a choir of such excellence in the heart of our community was magnificent As part of our desire to communicate as effectively as possible with the local community, a new church website has been created which is packed with information about all the different activities going on in the church and hall. Please check it out On February 25�� the Bishop of Lewes came to visit and lead a confirmation service for us. Eight members of the congregation were confirmed that evening in front of a large congregation, followed by tea and the sharing of a large confirmation cake in the hall afterwards.

By the time you read this Shrove Tuesday (hope you enjoyed your pancakes) and Ash Wednesday will have passed, and the weekly Lent discussion groups will be taking place as we move towards Easter. Because we like to keep the numbers small in each group, there will be several groups running every week. As we move towards the Easter weekend there will be several special services....... Palm Sunday March 24�� at 9.30 am Good Friday March 30�� at 2 pm for an hour of readings and meditations in the church Easter Day Sunday April 1�� at 9.30 am will be our Easter Celebration Service. The church will be beautifully decorated with fresh flowers, and the Easter Bunny almost always seems to leave an Easter egg for everyone. Why not make Easter extra special this year and plan to join us, all ages welcome. PS Don't forget Mothering Sunday on Sunday March 11�� at 9.30 am. A chance to thank God for all those who care for us

The Sunday afternoon service was launched for those who are unable to come to the 9.30 am service and was well received.
