Intel introduces an even smaller PC format.... Two years ago I wrote an article about how PC towers did not need to be large lumbering things. At the time there S were two main alternatives: re-case into a smaller enclosure or build a mini-itx format system (based around a 17 x 17 cm motherboard). In September Intel announced the Next Unit of Computing - or NUC to the rest of us. It uses laptop components to create a PC box which is 4 inches by 4 inches. The first versions are becoming available to buy. There is a Celeron based box and a i3 based box. To build a working PC one needs to add laptop DDR3 memory, an m-SATA solid state hard drive and a copy of Windows 7 or 8. The typical NUC has a socket for the power supply, an HDMI for the monitor and a couple of USB 2.0 ports. The keyboard and mouse would probably use one USB port. To connect to the internet an additional USB port would be needed for a WiFi dongle or fit an internal laptop WiFi card. Reasonably priced m-Sata drives are likely to be 120 Gb at the moment. Larger drives will be external, either using a USB port or via WiFi (connected to the router). The more expensive derivatives offer a thunderbolt port which is designed to work with the latest external hard discs. All the space saving characteristics of a laptop without a 15.6 inch screen. With a bit of imagination and planning this could be the solution that some people are looking for. Intel may have just saved the PC from extinction.

Peacehaven Youth F.C. Are now recruiting. Local player Louis tells us about his time with the club and invites you to join in… At the ripe old age of 18, I have just finished my 10th season with Peacehaven Youth FC. As part of the team and the club, we have played all over Sussex, taking part in the Sussex Sunday Youth League and many football tournaments outside the main football season. The most exciting one of these for my mum was in 2010 – Under 15’s at Peacehaven. She was our manager for the day as we had entered two teams into that particular competition. She still lives on the story about her team coming away with the trophy over the more experienced manager of our other team!! During the years I have collected many trophies including most improved player 3 times. In 2008, as well as being named Player’s Player of the year for the under 14’s at Peacehaven, I was also named Footballer of the year at school. There is a lot of time and effort goes on behind the scenes and as players, we need to appreciate all the time that is given by others to make it possible for us to just turn up and play our games. The managers give their time to train us, transport us to matches, put up the goal nets, give us our ‘pep’ talk and clean the home changing rooms. Someone has to hassle us and collect our subs every week. These go to pay for the initial registration at the beginning of the season, pitch fees, referees and insurance. Some parents take the kit home and wash it so it’s ready for the next match. The club have also organised trips to Wembley to watch England play, trips to the old Withdean stadium and new AMEX stadium. We have a signing on night in July, a Christmas party and an end of season do as well. It’s great fun and keeps you fit and you meet lots of new friends along the way. By Louis

Dates announced for Brighton & Hove Open Gardens 2013 in aid of The Sussex Beacon Dates have been announced for the hugely-popular Brighton & Hove Open Gardens in aid of The Sussex Beacon who are celebrating their 21�� anniversary in 2013 - which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 29�� - 30��, 2013 from 11am - 5pm each day. More than 70 private gardens and community spaces have already signed up from small city courtyards to expansive open spaces in Hove, Montpelier, Fiveways and Roundhill, Preston Park and Surrenden, Stanmer, East of Brighton, Rottingdean and Newhaven. Many of these gardeners will be providing scrummy tea, cakes and other refreshments - details of these are available on the website. Gardens will be listed in areas with suggested trail ideas, which will be detailed in the pop-up map, given with each purchased ticket. The event raises money for the Sussex Beacon, an HIV Charity based in Brighton. You can plan your visit online gardens are being added to this website every week so keep coming back. Charity News

ABCfund Charity News… The ABCfund are a registered children's charity based in Sussex who raise money in order to fund trips and treats for disadvantaged children and their families. I caught up with Anne Bickmore who runs the charity to find out what has happened in the last year… The charity is keeping me more than busy. We were chosen as the official charity partner for the 2013 Brighton Marathon and our total raised at the moment is £4,000. We are also delighted to announce that the pantomime dame from Eastbourne - Martyn Knight is absolutely thrilled to be asked to be Patron of our charity and has gladly accepted. We have also been busy updating our brand new website www.abcfund.org which people can visit and keep up-to-date with all that is happening . The Co-op South East Region have given us £1,000 to spend on a summer outing. We are planning a trip to Tilgate Forest and another one to a children's farm. In the pipeline is a Race Night (hopefully in September) to raise funds for the charity, I will update you all when

we have finalised this and we have already booked our seats for the pantomime. We have 19 families booked to stay in the holiday caravan over the summer months, so families that would not be able to have a holiday for whatever reason can now achieve this. Introducing Local Fund Raiser Dawn Paul Dawn Paul is a local lady who has been in our Community now for many years. She is a mother of 4 and until a few years ago worked as support staff for a local school. Since then her life has been a little challenging but to cope with this she fundraises for the NSPCC in a big way. This is her story… I completed 2 events for the NSPCC last year managing to raise a total of £1176, and since last May I have managed to clock up nearly 1500 miles, sometimes I wonder what keeps me inspired, but after losing my big Sis 18 months ago, I feel driven to stay as fit and healthy as I can, so as not to put my own children through the grief of loosing me too soon, I have put up with many things in my life, but it was the pain of losing Karen that finally got me spiraling into a depression I could not alone conquer. Last September I was diagnosed severely depressed, put onto anti-depressants, referred for counselling, I have now stopped the anti-depressants, as my new drug is self-motivating myself to do something positive. I still miss my big Sis everyday, but she's in every beautiful thing I see, and I know she would be proud of me for finding a way. I've got a busy couple of months planned and need your help with the fundraising, at the end of May I'm attempting to walk from London to Brighton for the 2nd year despite swearing never never again, for anyone who is under the false impression that is an easy task, then I assure you walking non-stop for 100k (62 miles) over 1 day is not just a huge physical achievement but mentally extremely challenging. Then on the 26th June I will be taking off from Heathrow and flying to Reykjavic Iceland, where for the next 4 days I will trekking 10/12 hours a day through the active volcanic region of Landmannalauger sleeping under canvas and hoping my feet still feel like my own at the end of my journey. Why do I do these things you might ask? Sometimes life is not how we would want it to be, but as adults we have the knowledge and maturity to do something about it, but unfortunately many children are stuck having to live in often unimaginable conditions having to endure the unimaginable, which is why as last year I have chosen the NSPCC to fundraise for, they are our childrens voice, they listen and care and with my/your help there will always be someone to believe the unbelievable. I would really like to thank publicly a few people who have helped me this year with my fundraising, firstly my friends at Brisco Entertainment who provided their services free in March for my big fundraiser, The Good Companions pub especially the landlady Donna who let me hold said fundraiser in the function room for free, Greetings Cards for allowing me to have a NSPCC collection pot by the till and so far have raised £45.00 in change, and lastly Peacehaven Town Council and our new Mayor Rachael Coles for publicly supporting me. As of today I have managed to raise £1160 plus some gift aid towards the £1765 I committed myself to raise to take part in the Iceland Challenge, I have also self-funded my place in the London2Brighton to help with the main fundraising project. 2 challenges 1 month London2Brighton 100k May 2013/Icelandic Lava Trek June 2013.
