03. WORKSHOP ZODIAC PROJECT WorkShop INC Toronto, Canada Summer Internship 2014

For Workshop’s Zodiac Project and to celebrate the Chinese year of the horse, it was created a delicate “cloud” of 396 colorful origami horses. The soft transition is shaped through the primary colors - red, blue and yellow - and their complementary ones, such as orange, purple and pink respectively.

04. MIRRORED PRISON University of Toronto Translation Project Toronto, Canada Winter 2014

The mirrored prison is designed to create the sense of loneliness and exclusion,. These feelings are related with my vision of the future and how architecture will exclude each person. In this sense, public spaces will be taken by private spaces and they will be reduced to small corridors. Therefore, it is a response to bystander effect, and the feeling of be alone is intensified by the chosen material - in this case, aluminum - that creates endless reflections of passer’s bodies.

In the future, architecture will be as cold as people in sensibility. Therefore, the building`s shape will be reduced in platonic forms without colors or ornaments. Due to this conception, I adopted Piet Mondrian’s painting as inspiration for the design’s process. the project has 12 extruded blocs – which are represented by the private

space – and 6 strait corridors that are related with public space. for this project, i utilized the fixed areas to create paths. in a few cases the corridor is interrupted by strait vertical cuts and, in other ones, the person can sees someone else trough a horizontal cut on eye’s height. 15

05. SOULS’ PRISON University of Toronto Repetition Project Toronto, Canada Winter 2014

Souls’ room is designed with the same concept of the previous project – which is the relationship between architecture and future. in this case, the assignment demanded to work with an element’s repetition. because of the approach between architecture and future society, i aligned people with simple lines and explore various kinds of abstraction such as isolation of people floating in the space and the light studies.

the design shows how a simple line repetition can develop several differences. for example, the skin was created by the repetition of lines with different thicknesses. the result can be associated with my object of study: a bar code. it demonstrates how the future will reduce everything into a bar code. with this project, i want to instigate issues such as standardization, individuality and segregation created by technology. the project is composed by two skins that belong together for creating the soul’s room experience. the first skin – which is a product of solid repetition – creates shadows in all dimensions and elevates the bar code abstraction trough several cuts. the second one is made by glass and it accommodates the connections and the floors made in the same material. the cuts in the second skin dialogue in harmony with the first skin. they do not only shape the senses’ experience, but they also compose entrances to the floors – which maintain curious and lost bodies. 19

06. ILLUSION SPACE University of Toronto Mutation Project Toronto, Canada Winter 2014

Based on the utopian use of lines and its complexities, this project entitled “the illusion� lives up to an architectural context where the convergence and divergence between physical and virtual spaces are components of its heterogeneous interaction. breaking a string of stiffness and tightness, the illusion brings the multiplicity of proportions and total flexibility of space that allow different modeling according to personal perceptions.

The project is a multiuse space because the program can be transformed according to people’s necessity. in this particular case, the structure was folded to create a space to read and relax. it is evident three differences scales in all dimensions: the lines have different measures and – when it is folded – it defines tree or four compiled spaces.

07. DESIGNING THE IMAGE University of Toronto Toronto, Canada Fall 2014

The project aims to transform the process of image making into a design action – as an alternative manner of designing and thinking about the physical space. We will question the ubiquitous usage of empirical data as the main design ingredient, and will take the risk to consider the visual organisation of the image will be the design process in itself.

08. CAAU - CENTER FOR AUTISM University of Bahia Undergraduate project Salvador, Brazil Fall 2016

The autistic cause - which affects more than 1% of the world’s population - has always been neglected by the public sector. Based on a case study at the Association of autistic friends of Bahia (the only institution specialized in the treatment of ASD patients in Bahia), it was observed that it was not able to meet the demand that exceeded 300 people. The project emerges as a Regional Reference Center in the treatment of ASD patients through sensory design guidelines that enhance the development of these individuals.

09. ECOFLEX - SUSTAINABLE MULTIPURPOSE MODULE Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Fall 2015 EcoFlex is a multi-purpose module with sustainable building materials and techniques. With the objective of promoting sustainability, good practices in architecture and engineering and the conscious use of natural resources, EcoFlex shows itself as a minimum space of 9m², which can be applied to various uses (residential, health, safety, trade) and can also be associated with other modules for creating larger spaces. With internal measures of 3x3x3m, it has flexible spaces through sliding partitions and internal panels that make up the walls of the module and allow rotation, thus transforming into furniture (table, chair, shelf, niche, etc.). Through the use of rainwater reutilization system, use of solar energy (solar panels on the roof) and application of sustainable building materials, the module can be deployed in any climate of Brazil, changing only the composition of the external walls. In addition, it can be transported already built or with its separate constructive elements for later assembly. Layout proposals, environmental comfort analysis, wall composition system and energy and water efficiency systems were developed with the objective of creating a functional and environmentally space. 43

10. CINE EXLCESIOR DANCE CLUB University of Bahia Undergraduate project Salvador, Brazil Fall 2016

The Cine Excelsior was inaugurated in 1935 in Praça da SÊ in the old center of Salvador and had its peak between the years 30 and 50. With the development of the city towards the airport and with the emergence of Iguatemi Shopping Center, which brought to the city a modern cinema and technology, Excelsior has been deactivated. The intervention proposal contemplates the transformation of the old cinema into a show house in Pelourinho which is a culturally strong region of the city and where the demand for spaces for the occurrence of larger events arises. In addition to the space for concerts, a restaurant with a view to the sea and a nightclub were designed.

11. CCAA - ENGLISH SCHOOL RENOVATION Spectrum Arquitetos Renovation Project Salvador, Brazil Winter 2018

The renovation project proposed for the language school CCAA - Camaรงari unit was made around the concept of Intercommunications, having as guidelines: design of flexible and interactive spaces; young and relaxed environments; immersion of the public within the English language, using the decomposition of the colors of the logo to create harmonic interventions with the brand. Changing spatial relations, renewing visual communication respecting the brand, creating new spaces that promote meetings and discussions, and generating and enhancing activities that benefit the relations between the user and the brand in the city were some of the actions proposed in the project.

12. VC RESIDENTIAL BUILDING Spectrum Arquitetos Architectural Project Salvador, Brazil Winter 2018

The design of a multi-family residential building in the interior of Bahia was based on the principles of a coherent use of construction techniques and materials. Since the site has scarce skilled manpower and the client has few resources to make the project viable, some important design measures have been adopted, such as straight lines and apparent materials. The building consists of an apartment type, which is in the form of one per floor, with integrated living room, balcony, three bedrooms with a suite and service area. As common areas we have parking for the apartments and a playground area which has the reception and a ballroom. In the cover were allocated photovoltaic plates and reservoir, as well as rest area the appreciation of the view around the building. Project in progress, in the draft phase.

13. PLAYGROUND DUQUE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING Spectrum Arquitetos Renovation Project Salvador, Brazil Summer 2017

The project of remodeling the playground of the Duque Building was based on the Urban Jungle concept. Built in the 50’s, the building needed a refreshing and we chose to merge references from the decade of its birth along with the contemporary and current approach. Peeling pylons, restoring granilite floors (high strength flooring) and creating micro-environments with compositions of rustic furniture and hardwood / dense plants were some of the proposals.

16. CHILDREN’S BATHROOM Spectrum Arquitetos Salvador, Brazil CasaCor 2017 The children’s bathroom (age group of 7-18 years) was thought through the concept of Color Blocking (artistic expression that uses colors that are opposite in the chromatic circle and combine them in a harmonic way), sectorizing the activities performed in the bathroom by markings of complementary colors (green, yellow and blue) making it an artistic home icon that creates a direct relationship with users and stimulates the creativity of young people. We think of space as a membrane, breaking the limits of the planes (floor, walls and ceiling) by using the colors in these three planes creating three-dimensional geometric shapes that together with the metallic elements and the mirror help to enlarge the environment of 3.30m². Microcross was used as a coating because it was highly resistant, non-slip and feasible for application in wet areas. In addition, we made drawings of some objects that help in the use of the environment and optimize space such as the metal profile that runs through most of the bathroom and has several functions (shelf support, towel rail, soap dish and mirror support) and the MDF cabinet which houses a small drawer for day-to-day utensils and a hidden bench that assists in the autonomy of children in space. 77

Large east-west aspect ratio for classroom wings maximizes passive solar heat gain in winter for all/most classrooms, and minimizes summer heat gain on west elevations. 2. West-facing glazing is minimized to reduce cooling load in summer. PASSIVE SOLAR HEATING 3. South-facing classroom windows and thermal mass (concrete floor slabs, concrete block walls between classrooms) harvest solar energy in winter. 4. Solar shading devices/light shelves/ soffit projections reduce direct solar heat gain in warmer months. DAYLIGHTING 5. Clerestory windows, light shelves, and reflective ceilings allow deep penetration of indirect daylight into classrooms.. 6. windows admit daylight from classrooms into corridors. 7. Daylight sensors and separate switches for lighting fixtures near windows allow for variable lighting according to outdoor conditions. This reduces heat gain from fixtures, and reduces electricity consumption

HEATING, VENTILATING, & AIR CONDITIONING 12. Displacement ventilation provides fresh air near floor in all classrooms and results in increased ventilation effectiveness. 13. Hydronic radiant floor heating provides even heat distribution and thermal efficiency. 14. Return air is drawn through precast, hollow core concrete slabs to main return air ducts above corridors. Return air picks up additional heat from concrete slabs. 15. Heat recovery system is incorporated into air handling units. In winter, heat is recovered from return air stream, washrooms, and service areas., and is used to precondition fresh air supply. 16. High and low operable windows allow for passive natural ventilation in shoulder seasons.
