TRUE EXPERIENCE OUR TEST LAB FOR THE WINTER COLLECTION
2
With snow-capped peaks as far as the eye can see, it’s hard to keep your grin in check. And when the sun barely has the energy to travel over Scandinavia, it’s the snow and the slopes that make us pick up our skis and head south – to the majestic Alps. Here, the hunt for adventure continues.

Cecilia Petterson – Sailor, Skier and Chief Designer.
Even as a child, Cecilia followed her dad’s sailing races from the front row. She grew up among sailors on world tours, and it quickly became clear that Cecilia had inherited more than an interest in sports from her dad – sailing legend and style icon Pelle Petterson. A flair for style and details led her to study to be a tailor, and when she was finished with her schooling, Cecilia went on to Los Angeles to hone her skills in a program at FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Thus began a tour that took her through skiing and restaurant cleaning in Aspen and on to round-the-world sailing stopovers while freelancing as a clothing designer for both skiing and sailing. After several years, “Bisse” docked back in her home port in Kullavik outside Gothenburg. She got a job offer from a German brand that was breaking ground in technical clothing. But she declined. And instead she and her brother started their own brand that they named after their great hero – Pelle P.

BONS BAISERS DE VERBIER With fully packed trunks and high expectations, we made our way to Verbier. The mountains here had been offering the Petterson family great runs since a seasoned Mange Olsson first lured Pelle here in the early eighties. Then as now, the generous powder and wonderful mix of characters in the village prove too much to resist. Old and new gather in “Verpan” – jet set and ski bums alike. Our entourage includes freeskiers Kajsa and Mikael, snowboard ace Daniel, Alpine fox Johan and last, but certainly not least, Pelle himself.

OFF PIST Even if you don’t race downhill through steep couloirs, it’s nice to have clothes you can count on. Having clothes that look good and fit well are just as important on the slopes as they are in the village. In the “quieter” part of our winter collection, that’s precisely what we’ve focused on. Style is always important to us, but we never let it stand in the way of good function or genuine quality.

You get spoiled quickly in Verbier. With the world’s most modern lift system, the queues are never too long. 20
WAY
UP THE WALL In the last lift, your pulse starts to rise. We put more meters under our feet and the mountains tower around us. Here somewhere, we find a run that seems untouched and some of our fellow passengers can barely keep themselves in the cable car. The doors open and we hear the sound of boots clicking down in their bindings. Here we go.

The crown jewel of skiwear Tortin, gets its name from the legendary run in Verbier. The series is produced in Hi:Res 3LS, with waterproof zips and fully taped seams to stand up against the forces of nature. Tortin also offers a number of smart details, like integrated Recco reflectors and a mobile phone pocket with a protected opening for earphones.
Tortin PP 1281
Hi:Res stands for High Water Resistance and High Respiratory Function. In other words, the high-tech material is waterproof and highly breathable. This particular variant, 3LS, is a three-layer material with four-way stretch for extreme flexibility. The fabric is designed to release excess heat from the body while simultaneously keeping out wind and water. It is lightweight, durable and flexible – even at low temperatures. 24
Through a close collaboration with designers and active skiers, we make sure that all technical skiwear meets our tough and rather complex demands. They have to be warm but still breathable, flexible and preferably lightweight. The result is a garment made of a multi-layer material that always performs at peak potential when it really matters. KAJSA REGNÉR
PROMISING FREESKIER She was born and raised in Gothenburg, but feels at least as much at home in Alpine peaks. And maybe that’s to be expected, with about a 100 ski days a year. If Kajsa continues to ski the way she’s done the last few seasons, it won’t be long until the podium placings on the qualifying tour earn her a spot on the Swatch Freeride World Tour.

Season’s Freeride World Tour starts in Revelstoke and finishes after five races with the final in Verbier. The qualifying tour, on the other hand, includes almost 50 races across the globe. Every point is crucial when a spot at the World Tour is on the line, and Kajsa racks up as many she can. After every race, we talk. She tells us how it went and how the clothes performed.

MONT GELÉ One of the highest peaks in Verbier, and one that always delivers. There are a number of world-class marked slopes here, but to find some of the absolute best, you’ll have to make your own way and not back down to any tricky drops. If you dare, you’ve got some incredible rides ahead of you down wide couloirs.

DANIEL BIVESON
SNOWBOARDER AND TEST PILOT Daniel was a clear shining star in the 2000’s when Sweden was still a powerful contender in Alpine snowboarding. With countless World Cup competitions and several big Championships under his belt, he put his competition board on the shelf after the Vancouver Olympics. Now Daniel is an important cog in our ski team, helping us push new garments to the outer limits to see what really works.
36
Top competition highlights:
3 Olympic Games 1 World Championship silver 4 World Cup wins
Mont Gelé showing its best side – the backside.
Daniel’s wallet holds the absolute best lift card you can get in Sweden. It works on all Swedish lifts and when it expires in 2020, he’ll be given a new one, thanks to his victories on his board.
