Bred Heifer Offering
WHY ARE WE SELLING?
We are getting older (which is great) but we are also getting slower, so some chores need to be cut back a bit!
Why do you care? Well, we have been raising Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle for 30 years and have not offered many of our females to other breeders throughout those years. We have always AI’d, using leading Gelbvieh AI sires and a wide range of Top Angus sires – mostly to improve marbling and tenderness. (We have even bought semen on a few of those Angus sires and had it DNA tested for Tenderness before using it!) We also kept a strict eye on phenotype, disposition, and foot & udder structure while using DNA and ultrasound testing to bring in the carcass and tenderness traits. All the while – we tried to keep the EPDs in the top 30% for all! Of course, EPDs change… And that is true not only in the Gelbviehs, but also in the Angus breed – and not always for the better! So, year by year, we are always working to improve as best we can. We have also always culled heavily to keep our numbers manageable.
I feel we have met our goals of improving carcass and tenderness while keeping most of the other EPDs at or above the middle of the road. Realizing that EPDs provide just one tool in making our choices, we put a lot of importance on ultrasound testing. We have ultrasound tested our heifer calves as well as our bull calves since the beginning of our program 29 years ago. It is worth noting that our purebred Gelbvieh calves are ratioed with our Angus and Balancer calves, giving them lower IMF ratios, but in studying their actual ultrasound IMF averages you will find they are way higher than most purebred Gelbvieh animals!
We do not find the genetically enhanced EPDs to be as reliable as actual measurements and performance, so we only did that type of testing on the ones that required DNA testing to discover if they are homozygous polled, homozygous black, or parentage. If these young heifers remained in our herd, we would eventually test all of them for tenderness and getting their EPDs genetically enhanced once they have proven themselves to be producers. Call me at (406)366-6953 to let me further explain why I don’t trust the genetic enhancement results as much as the other tools available.
With all that said, I feel we are offering you something you can count on and females that you cannot find just anywhere. Yes, it is very hard to part with my youngest females – the ones that are closest to the goals of our dedicated emphasis on quality & performance – but, this is the quickest way to cut back on our work load (and I still have their mamas!)
Please feel free to call with any questions!

Bloom comes from a favored cow family. Her dam, JOB DANELL Cherry Blossom 70J, is a daughter of JOB DANELL Orange Blossom 35B, an active 10-year-old Purebred Gelbvieh Dam of Distinction, is a well-rounded cow that gives us keepers for the heifer pen and our bull pen. Orange Blossom’s performance record – BW Ratio 107 (9 calves), WW Ratio 103 (8 calves), YW Ratio 99 (5 calves), Ribeye Ratio 99 (4 calves), and Marbling Ratio 90 (4 calves) with an avg IMF of 3.64 – quite impressive from a Purebred Gelbvieh dam! Cherry Blossom had a WW of 688# (110 ratio) – due to adverse weather conditions that year, we were unable to ultrasound our yearling animals, so did not get ultrasound or yearling weight data on the J year (2021) females. Bloom had a WW of 685# (100 ratio), YW of 890#, 8.85 Ribeye, and a 4.0 IMF with minimal (.11) fat presence – not really sure why Bloom was not ratioed with the rest of the group for yearling and ultrasound (carcass) data. Bloom’s EPDs show very good calving ease and maternal values with excellent carcass traits – YG top 15%; CW top 25%; Ribeye top 20%; Marb top 35%; and CFAT top 1%!

Cleo comes from another exciting cow family! Her dam, JOB DANELL Clementine 07J, is a daughter of our active 5-year-old Dam of Merit, JOB DANELL Mandarin 55G and Mandarin’s sire is JOB DANELL Paygrade 68E (also the sire of JOB DANELL Pay Pal 12H)! Mandarin has quite a performance record – 92 BW Ratio (4 calves), 101 WW Ratio (3 calves), 104 YW Ratio (1 calf), with a 101 REA Ratio and 111 IMF Ratio! Her 2023 bull calf sold for $8000 and she is raising another great prospect for our 2025 Bull Sale! Again, we were unable to get ultrasound and yearling data on our J year females (2021) because of the weather that year.
Cleo is my favorite heifer! She is made the way I like them – moderate frame, deep body, and she is a standout! Her growth and maternal EPDs are quite striking with CED, BW, YW, HP, CW, and FPI Top 25%; WW Top 35%; Milk Top 5%; TM Top 10%; CEM & SC Top 15%; and PG30 Top 20%! Tippy’s momma, JOB DANELL Tyra 82F, is one of my favorite cows – a 10 for Tenderness and she brings home a keeper almost every time! This year is no exception – she is raising a great JKGF All American J109 bull calf that is sure to make the bull pen, her last bull calf sold for $6750; and her first daughter had a JOB DANELL Pay Pal 12H son that sold for $8000 and is raising another bull calf that is headed to the bull pen! They
Didn’t
All Make the Cut!
We advertised that we were going to offer all our open heifer calves, but that is not the case. It sounded good at the time, but we decided they should have at least a 99 Weaning Weight Ratio. We won’t be getting rid of those lower end heifers right away, as some of them would still make good commercial breeders and even some registered herd animals – we just had to make the cut somewhere. If anyone has an interest in some of them after the sale, you can give me a call and I can give you their tattoo numbers and could sell them private treaty. Thank you for your interest and feel free to give me a call with any questions you may have.
Pictures of most of the Gelbvieh sires of these open and bred heifers can be viewed on the AGA website, as well as many of the dams and granddams.

Origami is JOB DANELL Orchard 26K’s first calf and she is just what we like to see from our 1st calf heifers – a light birthweight and a 612# weaning weight (99 ratio)! Orchard’s dam, JOB DANELL Orchid 30A is an active Dam of Distinction that also has a bred heifer in this sale, JOB DANELL Magnolia 06L (78# birthweight)!
Origami has an incredible set of EPDs –Ribeye top 30%; DOC top 25%; CED, BW, & TM top 15%; WW & YW top 10%; PG30 top 5%; CW & Marbling top 2%; and FPI top 1%! This is definitely a heifer I would have enjoyed using as a foundation cow to work her genetics back up to Purebred Gelbvieh. With her EPDs and family background, she has great potential to put some actual marbling in her offspring if bred right! Her dam, Orchard, scanned a 4.9 IMF; grand dam, Orchid, averaged 4.2 IMF on 6 calves; and Origami’s sire, KCF BENNETT Exponential G101, averaged 4.61 IMF on 24 calves! Opportunity is knocking!

Jackie is out of another first calf heifer who has a light birthweight with a 632# weaning weight (102 ratio). Jackie’s dam, JOB DANELL Jody 31K ET, is a full sister to JOB DANELL Top Shelf 38K ET, an AI Sire that roams the pastures of Dennis Gustin’s Diamond D Gelbvieh. These 2 ET animals are from JOB DANELL Josephine 33C – our TOP money-making cow that is also the dam of JOB DANELL Pay Pal 12H!
Jackie has an average set of growth & maternal EPDs, but WOW! – her carcass EPDs are top 45% for CW & FPI; Marbling top 30%; Fat Thickness top 3%; Ribeye top 2%; and YG top 1%!
This is another heifer calf that has top carcass traits throughout her maternal and paternal pedigree. Starting with her sire, JOB DANELL Kickstart 65K – 16.8-inch ribeye (116 ratio), 4.7 IMF (131 ratio), fat thickness .26 (91 ratio), back fat .25 (82 ratio), and a 39.7 adjusted scrotal! Kickstart’s dam, JOB DANELL Butterfly 53G, has an average 4.09 IMF (125 ratio on 2 calves) and 15.98 ribeye (111 ratio on 2 calves)! Kickstart’s sire, JOB DANELL Bogart 67H, has an average 13.34-inch ribeye (104 ratio on 3 calves) and 4.46 IMF (118 ratio on 3 calves)!
Jackie’s dam, Jody, has a 4.76 IMF and she is 99.9% Purebred Gelbvieh as is her full brother, Top Shelf, with his 4.29 IMF measurement!
This is a young female that has loads of potential to raise Purebred Gelbvieh calves with real marbling; it is hard to let these young females go!

Infinity’s dam is another female that goes back to our Dam of Distinction - Donor Dam, JOB DANELL Moonshadow 30T! Moonshadow 30T’s granddaughter, JOB DANELL Moonbeam 20Z, is Infinity’s granddam and she has produced some great ones – AI Sire, JOB DANELL Torrid 40G as well as several daughters that are producing in our herd. We are also selling Moonbeam’s heifer calf, JOB DANELL Bella 53M – that has the top weaning ratio in her contemporary group!
Infinity has a great set of growth & maternal EPDs, but take a look at her carcass EPDs – Ribeye, Marbling, & FPI are Top 1%! Again, if you want females that will produce Top Balancers or if you want to work your way to high marbling Purebred Gelbviehs, choose Infinity as a foundation female for your program! She comes from a long line of great udders & foot structure!

In true “bunny” form, Bunny has a shorter tail than the rest – lost NOT from freezing weather, but most likely from being stepped on. Her dam, JOB DANELL Everlasting 24F, is a Purebred Angus cow with great eye appeal and good udder & foot structure!
Bunny’s sire, AI Sire - JOB DANELL Kickstart 65K, has semen available at Bull Barn and he has proven himself for calving ease and growth! Several heifer calves in the sale are sired by him and some of the bred heifers are bred to him. Kickstart has exceptional carcass EPDs backed up by ultrasound and DNA testing - 16.8-inch ribeye (116 ratio), 4.7 IMF (131 ratio), minimal fat thickness .26 (91 ratio), and he has a Tenderness of 9! On top of that, he had a 39.7 yearling scrotal!
Bunny is a calf that has always caught your eye in the field and causes you to check her out to see who it is. Of course, as soon as you get close enough, you see her short tail and realize right away that is her again. Take her home to own a great looking female with EPDs you can work with!

Filly’s dam, JOB DANELL Sassafras 07G, is a Dam of Merit and, strangely enough, has a Bred Heifer in the sale as well, JOB DANELL Saffron 11L. This is when it really hurts, selling the last two Sassafras females – both rate in the top of their contemporary groups for weaning weight. This is a buyer’s opportunity, but we are glad we still have their mama in production!
Filly’s growth & carcass EPDs are exceptional and her eye appeal and udder structure are second to none! I think this calf sells herself. Her sister, Saffron, is a calm easy-going female and we hope that disposition carries on in Filly. It is nice to offer animals that sell themselves,

Pen Pal is from a Donor Dam we partnered with Gary Carlisle from YJ Mountain Ranch Gelbviehs. Pen Pal is another great female sired by JOB DANELL Pay Pal 12H! She is a long made, eye appealing heifer with sound feet and good udder structure. With a great set of EPDs and coming from Pay Pal, this female is a “no brainer” to decide to take her home. There have not been many Pay Pal daughters for sale yet, don’t miss this one!

Sired by JOB DANELL TD Chico Loco 28Y (one of my all-time favorite AI Sires) and out of my all-time favorite Donor Dam, JOB DANELL Josephine 33C, we are hoping to create progeny that are better than either sire or dam. Chica may be that young cow – it is always a gamble, but odds are certainly in her favor! She has a good set of EPDs, exceptional Marbling and minimal Fat and walks on great feet. We are offering our best and most promising!

Alaska’s dam, JOB DANELL TD Frozen 84D, has produced two bulls for our sales and, as a younger cow, had that “show cow” look which she seems to pass on to her offspring!
Alaska is sired by JKGF All American J109 and is probably one of his first daughters available for sale. I can certainly tell you that we would not be selling her if we did not need to reduce our work load. With a good set of growth and maternal EPDs and an exceptional set of carcass EPDs, she should make replacement heifers and solid bull calves for the buyer!

This phenomenal purebred female comes from a mama that has produced a $10,500 Pay Pal son, JOB DANELL Chisel 18K, that went to Galen Geidel and is now an AI Sire with semen available at Bull Barn. Some of our bred heifers are AI’d to Chisel. Luna is an exceptional female that is not only easy on the eye, but has a great set of EPDs all across the board, is good footed, and has great udder potential! There are a lot of females that we don’t really want to part with. In fact, we are not offering anything that we won’t miss, but this purebred is one of my top choices with a 73# birthweight and a 677# weaning weight (109 ratio)! Swifty’s dam, JOB DANELL Jazzy 15C, also has a bred heifer in the sale, JOB DANELL Harmony 42L, and she was Omie’s top pick for the replacement pen! Jazzy has put a few bulls in our sales and a few heifers in our replacement pen. As I said in Lot 15’s write-up, Jazzy is one of the easiest fleshing cows we have ever had. Swifty’s sire, KCF BENNETT Exponential G101, is a new Angus AI Sire we used. We are excited about the heifer calves – 3 Exponential daughters are in the sale, one of which was our 3rd highest weaning weight in her contemporary group! Exponential has a 101 weaning weight ratio on 56 calves, 101 yearling weight ratio on 29 calves, and an average ribeye of 14.9 (99 ratio) on 24 calves! Most exciting, however, is his average IMF of 4.6 on 24 calves! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to ultrasound these calves, but I did AI some of the cows to Exponential so I should be able to find out how his carcass traits work in my herd in about a year and a half! Swifty is an exciting heifer with an exceptional set of EPDs across the board. If I was keeping her, I would probably breed her to Kickstart for a 32% Gelbvieh Balancer calf!

Firefly’s dam, JOB DANELL Butterfly 53G (pictured on the front of the catalog), is a 10 for Tenderness and is one of the most exciting females on the place! Her 1st two bull calves averaged $9875 in our bull sales! AI Sire JOB DANELL Kickstart 65K was her first bull calf and is the sire of many of the calves in this sale and some of the bred heifers are bred to him. AI Sire JOB DANELL Monarch 43L, a Pay Pal son, was her second bull calf and sold for $10,000 and we have used him heavily in our program! Hopefully, semen will be for sale next spring after we have had our first calf crop from him. Monarch actually comes from our top TWO money-making dams (his sire is out of JOB DANELL Josephine 33C)! Kickstart and Monarch both have a Tenderness of 9!
I have already mentioned the great carcass traits Butterfly passes on to her calves when bred to the right sire. She had a 111 Ribeye ratio (15.95 average), 125 IMF ratio (4.09 average), and 39.9 average scrotal on those 2 bull calves! We are keeping the right to one successful flush from this promising female.

Bella’s dam, JOB DANELL Moonbeam 20Z, is a beautifully uddered 12 y/o mama cow that has put many replacement females in our herd and her daughters have put many replacements in our herd as well! That is not surprising, considering the fact that she is a granddaughter of Moonshadow 30T, our most prolific, good mama, good tempered, good footed, and fantastic uddered Dam of Distinction! (Check Moonshadow out on the AGA website to see pictures of her udder at 14 years old! JOB 30T)
Bella’s sire, JOB DANELL Kickstart 65K (sold to Tim Robinson in Pleasureville, KY), has been mentioned several times in this catalog and has a promising future. He is a son of JOB DANELL Butterfly 53G and you might want to go to the AGA site to check out pictures of her udder, as well – and she also the dam of Lot 33!
Bella’s own performance shows a 78# birthweight (101 ratio) and a 708# weaning weight (113 ratio) which ranked #1 of 17calves in her contemporary group! Bella has good growth & maternal EPDs with exceptional carcass EPDs!
If I was looking to buy a future Donor prospect, Bella would have to be considered! Her wild type black gene (EDE+ = Typically Black Hided, Wild Type) means that you should get black hided calves, with some being homozygous black and some being (like her) black hided with a wild type gene. Enough said – take her home!

Moon River also goes back to Moonshadow 30T! Moon River’s dam, JOB DANELL Moonlight 43B, also has a bred heifer in this sale, LOT 17 – Spotlight 52L, and Moonlight is a Dam of Distinction! Moonlight has quite a track record – 99 BW ratio on 9 calves, 105 WW ratio on 9 calves, 103 YW ratio on 7 calves, 99 Ribeye ratio on 7 calves, and 96 Marbling ratio on 7 calves (average IMF of 3.79)! Every bull calf she has produced made our bull sales, which is not an easy feat! Moon River is the youngest heifer in the sale, but made the sale because she grew from a 79# birthweight to a 625# 205 weight! She is another female with a great set of EPDs and coming from two of our strongest female families – Moonshadow 30T and Butterfly 53G! Moon River is very stylish and should make a great mama cow!
