Pembrokeshire Leisure ADMISSION POLICIES

Swimming Pool Child Admission Policy A responsible adult, aged at least 16 years must accompany all children under the age of eight years. The responsible adult will go into the water with the children they are accompanying, maintain direct control and constant watch over the children and be in close contact with those of their children who are weak or nonswimmers. The following table highlights the maximum number of children that one responsible adult can accompany.

* Admission is conditional on non-swimmers wearing armbands or other suitable buoyancy aids which are appropriate to the age and abilities of the child. Customers to be advised to only use swimming aids that are kite marked or carry a BS EN number.

Leisure Centre Child Admission Policy Children under the age of eight years may only be admitted to the facility provided, they either: • Are accompanied by a responsible adult aged 16 years or over

The minimum age for unsupervised admission to any of Pembrokeshire Leisure’s Fitness Suites is 16 years. The minimum age for supervised sessions is 11 years.

• Are participating in an instructor-led activity and have a consent form that has been completed by their parent or carer.

Customers aged under 16 years must have a consent form completed by a parent or carer before they are admitted to the fitness suite.

• Are a registered member of Pembrokeshire Leisure Changing rooms Children aged seven and under may enter the ‘opposite sex’ changing rooms provided they are accompanied by a responsible adult aged 16 years or over. Adults can only enter changing rooms of their gender and not that of the child. Fitness suite All Pembrokeshire Leisure Fitness Suite users must complete an induction process.

Carers A carer is someone who assists another who is less able, whether they are paid or not for providing this service. We use the term ‘Service User’ to describe the person receiving this assistance. • All Carers must be registered users of Pembrokeshire Leisure and meet the carer eligibility criteria (see Social Inclusion Policy). Employed Carers will only be eligible for concessions when accompanying a ‘Service User.’ • Registered Carers that participate in an activity alongside their Service

User(s) are charged a concessionary rate. If the Service User is using the fitness suite, the carer must have previously completed an induction course. Pembrokeshire Leisure will provide the induction free of charge. • Carers who physically help and support their Service User(s) are not charged an admission fee but are required to swipe in at reception where they will be recorded as a ‘Carer in Attendance.’ • Carers who observe or escort their Service User(s) but do not participate or physically support the Service User are not charged but are required to swipe in at reception where they will be recorded as a ‘Carer in Attendance.’ • Carers for Service User(s) over the age of 60 will be eligible for free swimming when they participate in swimming alongside their Service User (see over 60’s free swimming policy).

HM Activities Descriptions

Free Swimming Summer 2011 In partnership with the Welsh Assembly, Pembrokeshire Leisure will be providing free swimming to all registered children between 12pm - 3pm Monday - Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday during the summer holidays. Dragon Swim A fun packed swimming session that will incorporate such activities as water polo, octopush, lifesaving, junior SwimFit, diving, starts & turns and canoeing. The sessions are suitable for all children that are ASA Level 4 and above. Family Swims Free swimming for children and their parents/guardians. Adults must be accompanied into the pool by a child whilst a child must be accompanied by an adult in order to gain admission. Two adults may gain free entry with every child attending. Normal child admission policy is applicable. Intensive Swimming Lessons (From age 4 yrs upwards) A beneficial week long 30 minute each day intensive course, which is suitable for all abilities and levels following the National Teaching Plan. Badges and certificates are available on completion of the course. Please note: Swimming lessons will be subject to minimum numbers.

Little Swimmers This is an adult and child class designed to allow parents to spend quality time in the pool with their child having fun, learning through play and structured techniques. The sessions are designed to encourage water confidence and develop a parents understanding of how to assist their child in the water through the early years (under 3). Ruff ‘n’ Tumble (For ages 0 - 4 yrs) Children can enjoy a fun session in a controlled environment. Creative play, bounce about sessions and lots of children to play with. Centre staff will ensure your child’s experience is an enjoyable one. Please note: Parents must remain with children. Junior Fitness Club This is the perfect chance for 11 - 15 year olds to come to the centre and enjoy exercise in a safe and friendly environment. The Fitness Club offers supervised use of our Fitness Suites. There are plenty of opportunities to have fun, meet up with friends and relax in comfortable surroundings.

Ducklings (Booking essential, from age 3 yrs to approximatey 4 yrs) This group is designed to introduce very young children to the environment and delights of the water. Specifically developed to support the Foundation Level of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming that encourages water confidence at an early age.

Summer Camp – Activity Descriptions Girl Heaven – A session dedicated to all things girlie! Round up your friends to have fun whilst making jewellery, craft, netball, hockey, dancing, singing and creating groovy accessories. Mini Olympics – Come along and see if you can win a medal at our mini Olympics – there will be different sporting competitions to take part in throughout the day ranging from javelin throwing, races, mini hurdles, relays and many more.

Tall Tales – Fun session dedicated to telling, creating and animating stories. Kids Chaos – Start the day with a lively session and learn some new skills. We like to call it Organised Chaos!! Quick lunch & Special guest – Every Monday, lunch will be followed by a visit from a special guest. You will have to come along to see who!

Sporting Madness – A jam-packed session full of football, kwik cricket and basketball to name a few.

Wii/ Kinect Session – We think this will be a favourite. Come and show us your gaming skills! (Wii/ Kinect in all centres)

Mission Impossible – Children all hyped up with nowhere to go? Bring them to us and we’ll set them some fun challenges which will stretch their imagination.

Circus Skills – Roll up, Roll up, the circus is coming to the Leisure Centres! Try some of the traditional circus activites!

Leisure’s Got Talent! – Can you sing, dance, juggle or tell jokes? Whatever your talent, come and show it off to our judges and win some great prizes!

Team Games – Try something old and something new! From Rounders to dodge ball

Crafty Fun – Show us your artistic side working with paints and materials. Includes creating collages, face painting and much more. Movie Munchers – An enjoyable session, watching a DVD, whilst having lunch.

Cheerleading – Pom Poms at the ready! This fun session will enable you learn and show off your cheerleading skills Science Experiments – Ever tried the ‘Magic Ketchup Experiment’? This and many more can be tried during this session

Cookery Corner – A sweet treat for the afternoon!

Summer Camp â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Notes for Parents How do I book? Call your chosen centre or pop into reception. New to the centre? A registration form must be completed by the parent/ guardian before payment can be made. When do I pay? Payment must be made at time of booking. Pay at reception using cash, cheque or credit/ debit card. You can also book and pay for classes/ courses over the phone. What do I need to bring? Please ensure clothing is suitable to the activity and that trainers are worn. Swimming kit needed. It is a good idea to bring a drink and a healthy snack for break times. *Please note lunch is not provided* Our promise to you - We will provide a variety of high quality activities for children - All our staff are fully trained in our holiday activity policies and procedures and fully qualified to instruct activities where relevant - Staff/ Children ratios are set and maintained at all times to ensure that children will never be left unsupervised - Children will have FUN and learn in a safe, happy environment with staff that CARE.

Additional information - We reserve the right to cancel should there be insufficient numbers for an activity. Where this is the case we undertake to give at least two weeks notice of the cancellation. Alternatives will be offered wherever possible. - Cancellation by the customer: all activities are non-refundable. Credits may be offered at the discretion of management. - Pembrokeshire Leisure has a child protection policy in place and all staff involved in childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s activities are checked via the Criminal Records Bureau. - When registering your child into an activity, please let the staff know of any medical conditions your child may have. SUMMER PLAY IN THE PARK 2011 Look out for our “Play in the Park” team, who will be visiting parks and open spaces across Pembrokeshire during the summer holidays. • The programme above will be repeated each week and will consist of three sessions each day (apart from Wednesdays and Thursdays). • Venues are subject to change and more detailed information will be available shortly. • On Wednesdays the “Play in the National Park” sessions will be run in partnership with the National Parks and be held at venues throughout the county which will promote the use of Pembrokeshire’s wonderful natural facilities. • On Thursdays the session in the morning will alternate from one being held in Angle South Pembrokeshire to St Dogmaels in the North of the County further information on the dates for these venues will be confirmed shortly.

• Parents are reminded that children may get wet/dirty but will also have fun. • Under the terms and conditions of Open Access Play no contract is made between the play workers and parents/carers to provide care for any duration whilst a child is present at “Play in the Park”. Children are free to come and go as they wish.

EVERY YEAR, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE GET INTO A LIFE-THREATENING DIFFICULTY ON OUR COASTS. They may be washed out to sea, pulled under by a strong rip current, or simply get into the water when conditions are dangerous. To ensure you and your family don’t put yourselves in danger we have compiled some simple steps you can take to stay safe on the beach. TOP TIPS TO STAY SAFE ON

PEMBROKESHIRE BEACHES • When possible, always swim at a lifeguarded beach. Go to www.goodbeachguide.co.uk to search for listings throughout the UK • When on a lifeguarded beach, find the red and yellow flags and swim or bodyboard between them - this area is patrolled by lifeguards. • Always read and obey the safety signs, usually found at the entrance to the beach. These will help you avoid potential hazards on the beach and identify the safest areas for swimming. • If you get in trouble, stick your hand in the air and shout for help. • Never swim alone. • If you see someone in difficulty, never attempt a rescue. Tell a lifeguard or, if you can’t see a lifeguard, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

KNOW YOUR FLAGS

Red and Yellow Flags indicate the area patrolled by lifeguards. These are the safe areas to swim, bodyboard and use inflatables. Black and White Chequered Flags indicate an area zoned by lifeguards for use of watercraft such as surfboards and kayaks. Never swim or bodyboard in these areas. The Red Flag Indicates danger. NEVER enter the water when the red flag is flying, under any circumstances. The Orange Windsock Indicates offshore wind conditions. You should NEVER use an inflatable when the sock is flying.

Pembrokeshire Leisure BEACH DAYS

Pembrokeshire Leisure is working with The RNLI, Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre (Princes Trust) and The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park to provide safe exciting active and educational beach days for the children of Pembrokeshire. The days will include a mixture of Sit on Top Kayaking/Surfing, Beach Games and Environmental Activities such as rock pooling and strand lining etc. WHEN AND WHERE Beach days will be provided every Tuesday and Thursday as detailed below Beach days will run from 9am (children arrive at the Leisure Centre) to 5pm (Children collected from the Leisure Centre).

Pembrokeshire Leisure BEACH DAYS

THE DAYS ACTIVITIES

The day will be divided into two activities - Kayaking and Beach activities. Safety is a key factor and the children will be taken through beach and sea safety and awareness of their surroundings, while at the same time we can guarantee they will have a great time and learn a lot more about the natural environment.

No previous experience is necessary, all we ask is you come with a whole bundle of enthusiasm. Our Guides will ensure you are safe and coach you through some of the basic skills required to get the most out of the day.

Explore the dramatic Pembrokeshire coastline from a completely unique perspective. You will be guided by Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre’s highly qualified and experienced Sea Kayak guides, along sections of our fantastic coastline, accessing parts of the coast you would never normally experience. The Sit on Top kayak is very easy to use, as the name suggests you sit on top of this craft, so you do not need to worry about what happens if you capsize. They are also very easy to control, these boats go in the direction you ask them to, this means you can focus on enjoying your time out and about exploring the wonders of the Pembrokeshire Coast.

The Beach Days will be held on the Blue Flag beaches. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park team will deliver exciting and stimulating environmental activities which will be fun and thought provoking.

Bookings must be made and paid for by the 30th June 2011 at the latest. Booking can be made in the normal way through your local Leisure Centre.

Children must have be able to swim at least 50m in deep water. The activities are for children between the ages 8yrs to 15yrs. The bus will collect and return the children to / from the designated Leisure Centre and Beach accompanied by a Pembrokeshire Leisure Coordinator.

Please note all children taking part will need to have an assessment of their swimming abilities.

Purple Routes Play Project The Purple Routes Play Project is a Big Lottery Funded project to support children’s play in the community. The Purple Routes Play Project recognises the child’s right to play, the impact it has on life and the importance of play for everyone. This will be achieved through facilitating free of charge, open access play sessions where children and young people take an active role in their freely chosen play.

The project is being led by CAVS working in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council, PAVS and Carmarthenshire County Council. It aims to deliver free open access play sessions across 6 areas in Pembrokeshire in Tenby, Pennar, Neyland, Merlins Bridge, Maenclochog and Fishguard/Goodwick during the summer. The project will complement Pembrokeshire County Council’s own open access Play in the Park programme. Learn to Swim with Pembrokeshire Leisure We offer swimming lessons in a friendly and safe environment with qualified teachers and small class numbers. Our swim scheme follows the nationally recognised Amateur Swimming Associationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s (ASA) National Plan for Teaching Swimming. The programme is designed to take children of all ages through from their first splash to full water competence. Little Swimmers This is an adult and child class designed to allow parents to spend quality time in the pool with their child having fun, learning through play and structured techniques. The sessions are designed to encourage water confidence and develop a parents understanding of how to assist their child in the water through the early years (under 3). Ducklings The ASA Duckling Awards are for Pre School Children aged 3 years. The classes have a maximum number of 6 children and are led by an instructor in the pool.

These classes are designed to develop childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s basic aquatic skills through progressive activities and games. It will allow them to achieve water confidence away from the parent and provide the building blocks for swimming without assistance. Stages 1 - 7 The stages are open to all children aged 4 and upwards. It is designed to allow swimmers to learn how to swim competently and to provide them with the skills which will enable them to continue to participate in any aquatic sports later on, such as Competitive Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Rookie Lifesaving. Sport Pembrokeshire Fun Football Holiday Activity

Summer Break 2011 Sport Pembrokeshire’s Fun Football scheme, accredited by the Football Association of Wales, has been in operation throughout the County since October 2010. The program has been a huge success with good attendance figures at every site. The purpose of these sessions is to provide players (boys and girls) between the ages of 5 and 11 with the opportunity to play small sided games in a safe and fun environment. Players who have never played before as well as those already attached to a football club are welcome to attend.

Run by Eloise William, a drama practitioner with qualified teaching status and extensive stage and TV experience and who has done a lot of successful work with youth groups. Fishguard and Goodwick Young Persons’ Trust Ltd Summer activities for 14-19 programme Kite Boarding with Big Blue at Newgale. The session will cover the board skills required to safely cruise the beach including • Getting going • Speed control • Stopping • Changing direction • Safety awareness and beach use. Big Blue can teach all levels of kite landboarding, from a complete beginner with no previous experience to those looking to master advanced techniques such as jumps, power slides, turns, rotations. 8 young people per session Session length 12.30 -4pm Transport leaving from Fishguard to Newgale at 12.30 picking up in Haverfordwest if necessary. As this activity is wind dependant Big Blue have agreed that they can make a decision on which day to run the activity on the Sunday before the week of the activity. Young people can book in advance but need to be aware that they will only find out which day the activity will run on the Monday of that week.
