Mortgage Search Go First-time buyers have had it tough in recent times but things are getting better Over the last few years, you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s been impossible to obtain a mortgage unless you can lay your hands on a deposit of 20-25%. In early summer last year there were about 64 first-time buyer products in the market. This has since increased, and earlier this month there were 85 products available. Sometimes they are only to be had for a short period of time, then they disappear off the shelf, only to re-appear a little while later. It’s also worth noting that first-time buyer activity is at its highest level for five years and has been increasing steadily since last Autumn. Believe it or not, a first-buyer moves in to a property every three minutes, and that’s before any of the Help-to-Buy measures announced in the recent Budget kick in.

Many people think of diamonds as colourless but truly colourless diamonds are extremely rare. The colour scale extends from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Most diamonds used in jewellery are nearly colourless with tints of yellow or brown and the popular colour range used is from D – H. Because diamonds form under tremendous heat and pressure, it is extremely rare to find a diamond that lacks any internal or external characteristics. These characteristics are a by-product of its formation and help gemologists separate natural diamonds from synthetics and identify individual stones. The top clarity range of diamonds are scaled as FI (flawless internally), VVS1 & VVS2 which is ‘very very slightly included’. VS1 & VS2 are ‘very slightly included’ followed by SI1 & SI2 ‘slightly included’ and I1-I3 which is ‘included’. The cut of a diamond determines the shape but affects the brilliance, fire & life of a diamond. The brilliance refers to the overall light reflected from the stone. The Fire is the dispersion of rainbow colour flares emitted from a diamond and the Life is the flashes of light you see when the diamond, light or observer moves. The Carat of a diamond refers to the weight. The name comes from the Carob seed which were used by early traders as nearuniform counter weight to balance their

scales. Each Carat is divided into 100 points so a 0.75ct diamond equals 75 points and a half carat equals 50 points. Determining the four C’s of your diamond effects the price. A smaller stone with a higher colour and quality can be more expensive than a larger stone with a lesser colour & quality. The choice is yours and we can show you a selection of stones enabling you to handpick your favourite. Once the stone has been chosen the design work can begin. CAD images will be produced enabling you to see the design which can be modified to perfection. Some clients prefer to see a wax model of the ring before it is sent away to be cast in your chosen metal. This is optional, adding a stage on to the process should it be preferred. From doing the CAD design of the engagement ring we will have all of the exact measurements needed to produce the perfect complimenting wedding band. Carnival Day 2013 Carnival Day returns to the Esplanade, Kymin and Clifftop in Penarth on the 20th July from 1.00pm. As one of the best annual community events in the Vale, Penarth’s Summer Festival has been wowing the locals since 1965! There are many activities for you to enjoy from the wonderfully colourful Carnival Parade including classic cars, walking bands, uniformed organisations and Penarth’s most exuberant characters. Crowds will line the streets along the parade’s route leaving West House (home to the Town Council) at 1.45pm, and travel along Stanwell Rd, Bradenham Pl, Hickman Rd, Windsor Rd, through the Town Centre, Winsdor Terrace to Beach Hill onto the Esplanade where the Town Mayor will open the Carnival Day celebrations.

A spectacular display from the fantastically exciting Hurricane has been organised to blow you away. The Hawker Hurricane was the first operational R.A.F. aircraft capable of a top speed in excess of 300 m.p.h. We are also excited to have the SAR Helicopter displaying with Penarth’s RNLI.

1.00pm: Radio Road Show (Bro Radio – 98.1fm) From 1.00pm Bro Radio will once again host the Summer Festival Radio Roadshow from the stage in front of the Italian Gardens. We have the Samba Band and Rock Choir delighting the crowds with their unique talents. Then performances from local and popular bands Wonderbrass and Session, will play through the night right up to the fireworks display from the pier. Three more bands to be confirmed.

Water Ski Display Penarth Water Ski Club will again wow the crowds with their unique and exciting display routines. The club entertained the crowds at the very first Summer Festival in 1965 and have returned to Carnival Day in recent years with new disciplines like wake boarding, mono skiing and race boats that tear up the waters off shore. What will they have up their wetsuit sleeves this year?

This year will see the introduction of Go-Kart Racing around an inflatable race track at the clifftops, great fun for the all the children. There will also be a stationary helicopter for the children to sit in, face painting, balloon modelling and many classic cars on view, plus the Fabulous Donkey Rides.

The adrenaline soaked Downhill Derby will take place on Cliff Hill again this year to the delight of the crowds. Last year’s Downhill Derby was one of the best community events ever, proving great fun for both spectators and drivers alike. The Downhill Derby has added another aspect to Carnival Day and this year’s event will again be captured on video and can be viewed via the Town Council’s new website at www.penarthtowncouncil.gov.uk .

PLTC Head Coach and Director of Vale Tennis Academy, Rob Cunningham, known to many as “RobTheCoach” has implemented a team of LTA qualified coaches to provide the tennis programme at Penarth LTC.
