UPDATE ON A MUSEUM FOR PENARTH
From an open forum in March 2018, hosted by Penarth Civic Society The results from a survey conducted have been collated. The overwhelming public desire is as follows: Penarth deserves a broad heritage display strategy, that includes a central hub, with satellite sites around the town. The central hub to be at Turner House with a community drop-in attitude: Our place, a comfortable place to be, to relax and to reflect. • Satellite displays e.g. an Esplanade history display at the Pier Pavilion. • Interactive events, such as street theatre, to enhance the heritage experience. • For Turner House to display some returned artworks as a star tourist attraction. • This broad display and heritage celebration drive will now be known as The Penarth Community Heritage Project (PCHP). • New organisations and individuals to be recruited accordingly to achieve these goals. At present, Penarth Town Council’s heritage strategy is unclear, especially regarding Turner House. If you want to see an effective Penarth heritage display strategy we urge you to contribute to the current Penarth Town Council consultation, reiterating the desire for Turner House to be used as a central heritage hub to display some returned works of art. PCHP will continue to research; A. Independant funding regarding establishing Turner House as a central heritage hub. B. Factors and processes involved in displaying some returned artworks and conduct further consultation with schools and other social groups. Look out for a feedback meeting October 2018.
