The topic of the studio is to study how to draw an elegant plan through a series of exercises and studying of precedence. The program of the building is a writer institution including varies programs like bookstore, lecture hall, library, office and residence. The site is located on Harvard Square, across from Harvard Yard. It is a connection point between the commercial and academic zone of Harvard University. Transportation on the site is variable and available. T-train station, bus stops, bike racks and parking lots are close to the site. All the factors make this site become a popular area of the neighborhood. Before the project started, an outdoor food court and several vegetation was on the site. My focus of this project is to preserve the existing public space, keep the fluid circulation on the site and continue this public property into the building. The intention of the facade is to use it of a metaphor of the preface of the book. From the facade, people on the street can have a vague idea of what kind of programs behind this cover.

This project focuses on collecting and expressing the traces of historical activities around the site. The site used to be an industry area since 1788. Because of the flourishing industrial activities during the 19th century, resorts, hotels and recreation park were built around 1870s. However, the heavy industry generated severe pollution that caused the decline and eventually abandon of the area. These historical activities and urban development left traces on the surrounding area. To reflect the history of industry, the project extracted the spatial, formal and material qualities of historical elements such as bar building, oil tank and salt field to generate the design. The recreation aspect of the site history is used in promoting the education aim of the children museum by creating interactive exhibitions with plant, water and bio-compost. The aim of the museum is to remind people about the damage made by industry, educate children about ecology and help to eliminate pollution, which is a trace of industrial activities, around the site for hundred
