If you meet our eligibility criteria, you will be informed in writing and will move onto the allocation process. Those who do not meet the criteria will be informed in writing too.

Please note, if there are any changes in your circumstances from the date of application to the opening of the scheme, please inform us immediately, as they could affect your application.

How are the apartments allocated?

In order to maintain a balanced community, the allocation of housing at our independent living schemes is determined by a panel made up of representatives of the Council's Adult Social Care and Health Department, the on-site care and support provider and ClwydAlyn. Other professionals may be invited onto the Panel as required eg District Nurse manager, in order to assist the Panel to make well informed decisions.

This panel seek to ensure that properties are allocated to reflect the care and support that is available at any one time. Housing and Domiciliary Care needs are also considered as part of this process but are not the only deciding factors, as we aim to maintain a balanced community.

How will I know if I’m going to get a property?

The panel will meet and decide who will be allocated apartments. If the panel allocate a property to you, we will let you know and you will be able to view the property. At the viewing you can then decide if you wish to accept the offer of accommodation. You will also get the option to choose an apartment, from the remaining apartments, however, this is subject to any recommendations from the Allocations Panel.

We hope to receive your application in the near future and we look forward to hearing from you. However, if you are no longer interested in a place, please call us on 0800 183 5757 to let us know.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONTINUED…

In the previous edition of our newsletter, we included answers to your frequently asked questions, here are some more…

I own my own home and my friend has a social housing house, could we both move into Neuadd Maldwyn?

Yes, regardless of your current home status you could both make an application.

I’m already in a residential home can I move?

Yes, if an assessment proves that independent living is suitable for your needs you could transfer from residential care.

I’m already in sheltered housing, how would living at Neuadd Maldwyn be different?

The main difference is that care and support are on site 24 hours a day. There is also a different restaurant which provides a midday meal, social activities, and other facilities. Different types of accommodation are available and there is a mixture of residents with different support needs.

My husband is unwell, and we get a lot of help from our family and friends. Could we move in together?

Yes, you and your husband can stay together, and your family and friends can continue to help if they want to, with the added support of the care staff at the scheme. You may make new friends too.

What happens if my health deteriorates whilst living at Neuadd Maldwyn?

It is expected that your health needs will change over time. There may be times when you need a lot of care and support, times when you need no support or a mixture of both. The care staff are flexible and sensitive towards changing needs. They cannot give you nursing care, but they will aim to support you to stay living in the same place. Any changes to supporting hours will be subject to a suitable assessment.

Can I stay until I die?

Our independent living schemes aims to provide you with a home for life. This may not always be possible, for example, if you become a risk to yourself or others, but this is the aim.

If we apply as a couple, and anything happens to one of us, will the surviving one have a home for life?

Our independent living schemes are designed as a home for life, however, if your care needs go beyond to what we can provide in the scheme, or you become a danger to yourself or others we would then discuss this with yourself, family and friends and Social Services what options would meet your needs.

I am managing on my own, but my health is not too good and I want to move. Would independent living with care and support be suitable for me?

Yes, our schemes have a mixture of independent and able residents together with those who are much less independent. Some will require a high level of care and support, whilst others will be living independently. The accommodation is designed to be accessible and easy for you to manage.

How will the care and support package be arranged? Will it be on social need or medical need?

A Social Worker will discuss with you any care needs you may have and discuss a package of care suitable to meet your needs.
