LAND AT BODEDERN, ANGLESEY
A development of 29 new energy efficient, affordable homes being built by DU Construction on behalf of ClwydAlyn and in partnership with Anglesey County Council and the Welsh Government.
PROGRESS UPDATE AND LOOKING AHEAD
Work started on site on the 19 June, followed by the official ‘groundbreaking ceremony’ on the 20 June. The first stage of the development is starting on the ‘site strip’ which will enable the engineer to progress with setting out the levels and coordinates of the houses for the groundworks to start the concrete foundations and slabs. Hopefully, this good weather continues throughout the summer to complete the majority of groundworks, with the aim to erect a number of the 29 timber frames prior to Christmas.
In the summer, our Development Project Manager for ClwydAlyn, Helen, plans to meet with the Bodedern Community Council to provide an overview of the housing scheme, to discuss opportunities for community benefits in the village and any concerns or ideas they may have.
On the 20th June, a ground-breaking ceremony officially marked the start of works on this £5.5m project. The new affordable family homes are part of ClwydAlyn’s ambitious build programme which coincides with Anglesey County Council’s ambitious plan to increase its housing provision on the island. It was great to see everyone at the event and Cllr Gary Pritchard, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Children’s Services at Anglesey County Council also attended and said:
“
It is great to see the start of works on these new homes in Bodedern. The Council is happy to support this project which will provide much needed carbon friendly properties to families in the area, with clean and green homes which will hopefully offer energy efficiencies in times of rising fuel costs.”
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
An important part of ClwydAlyn’s commitment to building high quality affordable homes is to ensure that all partners involved, commit back to the local communities in which we work in a wide range of ways and in line with our poverty priorities. In turn, helping to enrich our communities by giving support where it’s needed, whether that’s helping people to get back into work, combating social isolation, supporting residents in fuel poverty, or providing access to nutritious food.
ENERGY EFFICIENT HOMES
OUR MISSION: TOGETHER TO BEAT POVERTY
Our poverty priorities:
• Employment, training, education and volunteering (Increase)
• Food poverty (reduce)
• Fuel poverty (reduce)
• Digital Inclusion (increase)
ClwydAlyn’s aim is to tackle fuel poverty and help minimise the impact less energy efficient homes can have on people’s health and wellbeing. Built using greener technologies and innovative designs, these new homes will be super energy efficient and benefit from:
• Air source heat pumps
• Solar electricity panels
• Homes positioned to maximise solar gain and natural daylight
• Electric car charging facilities
• ‘Modern Methods of Construction’ using as many natural and sustainable materials as possible
• Sourcing materials from local manufacturers and suppliers, keep a low carbon footprint
These homes can make a big difference. They’ll help residents support the environment; save precious energy and they could save money in the long run too.
