Managers Profile: Name: Krystyan Gordon.
How long have you been involved with Pennine Juniors? 3 Years. How long have you been managing a team? 2 Years look I had hair! >>>>> Add photo What is your football background? Played school, college and Uni nothing spectacular! Was more into Rugby and Basketball and mixed hockey! Then girls came along! What do you find challenging when managing a team? Keeping the boys interested and focussed. All the organising required running the team people don’t realise what’s involved. What do you like most about managing a team? Seeing the boys progress and improve maturing as the years go by! Sense of humour getting better! What has been your funniest/best/most memorable moment? Best has to be winning last years league cup with Danny Dale as coach. The joy on those faces was just unbelievably satisfying. Describe your team: Great set of lads challenging at times but always a joy. Hard workers, battlers most of the time! Energetic and fun joy to be involved with. What are you focusing on in training at the moment? Passing. Closing down. Tackling. Fitness. Tell us about your best game to date and why it was the best: The last game of last season as above it went down to the last game to decide who won the league us or Elton and Walshaw. They needed to beat us to win league and boy did he want to win. We got a draw in the last five minutes of the game with a great strike from outside the box, which flew into top corner. They were devastated all I wanted was a top two finish for promotion. Winning the league was a great bonus! What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers? Keep off that bloody play station or X-box garbage and get outside and play for real! Practice, practice, practice. Listen to your coaches and managers. Ask your parents to support and not criticise. Most of ALL ENJOY.

Match reports: Opponent: Roach Dynamos Orange Date: 6/9/14 Venue: Away Result: WIN 4-1 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. NEW KITS LOOKED GREAT THANKS TO BLUE PITTS TEST CENTRE. 1st game of the season with the new 9v9 set up. I was torn between 2 formations deciding to go more defensive. We started really brightly with the boys passing nicely and looked threating going forward. Three minutes in & we broke through with Bilal crashing the ball into the net! I Love to see net rippling when ball hits it! The lads faces & celebration is a joy to watch. After 10 minutes we got a free kick 10yds outside the box Ollie Mcdonald launched a lovely ball into the box Jozef flicked it on & Josh hit a great volley past the keeper 2-0. Unfortunately a mix up from two of our defenders led to a sloppy goal being conceded 10mins from half time 2-1, which gave Roach confidence to attack us more. Harry Bentham was having a great debut in defence with not much getting past him, which is why he got M.O.M from me. The game ebbed & flowed with both sides attacking and defending well. Oliver Barlow did some great runs down the right but looked tired couple of more matches required to get match fit along with several others. Roach got a late free kick just outside our box before half time and I thought that this would lead to a certain goal, as Charlie looks tiny in these new larger nets! The shot flew with speed and venom over the wall for Charlie to brilliantly tipped over the bar great save and relief from me we deserved to be leading!! 2nd half came and I decided to change the formation to a more attacking one playing two up front with 2 in defence which led to more attacking from us but at times left us with little cover when a move broke down. We needed the next goal Adam another new player to us danced his way into the box & toe poked a pass which ended up trickling past a despairing dive from the keeper into bottom right! Adam was as surprised as everyone & I called him Jammy but I will take any goal! He admitted it was a pass! Harry Walsh was taking 10mins on 10mins off as striker with Lewis Lundon another new player to us and ex Roach player so came under some heavy tackles from past team mates! Both were on in 2nd half & were linking nicely Harry Walsh was doing to much at times taking 2 or 3 players on which on this occasion paid off & he got through but against better & stronger opponents he will get tackled needs to release ball earlier. Lewis Lundon then got up ended on edge of box & won a free kick. Oliver Mcdonald wanted to take it but I said Lewis deserved it as he won the free kick, just before he was about to take it I shouted to ‘get it on target’ his dad shouted ‘corners Lew’. Jozef stood in front of keeper & claimed he helped block the sight the keeper! I just think it was a great well struck free kick into top left corner leaving keeper no chance. This goal was sweet for him being an ex Roach player coming to Pennine probably got him the several fouls due to this but he just picked himself up and carried on with no reaction credit to him! Ben Shepard had a solid enough debut moving from reds along with Joshua Ward and Harry Bentham but Ben nearly gave me & Colin Johnson (New Coach) a heart attack trying to trick a player just inside our half with him being last man! Lost the ball & Jozef managed to get back & put a block in. All the boys showed commitment. Oliver Mcdonald all over the pitch tackling which earned him M.O.M from parents. Colin the coach gave M.O.M to Lewis Lundon for selfless tracking down & marauding attacks and pressurising & harassing defenders. (It was raining had to hurry Colin up thought he wasn’t going to finish his Page | 4
summing up!) Bilal had also spats of good play but not up to last years standard yet! Rustiness was the name of the game we will get better as the season progresses. We have a lot to work on in training but have the core of a good side. One or two need to 1) get fit, 2) get up to speed with pace of the game at a higher level than they are used to. Pitch size was an issue a lot of ground to cover when ball lost so passing needs to improve & save energy ball moves faster with a pass than running with a ball….
Opponent: Woodbank Reds Date: 13/9/14 Venue: Home Result: LOST 5-1 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. Don’t think this will be a long report! The boys turned up looking half asleep messing around and in my opinion over confident from the weeks before win. In my opinion not enough urgency in the play not enough closing down weak tackles being put in. Generally it was poor performances from a number of players. Woodbank, were all over us from the start harassing and pressing all our players who were shell shocked and soon they were 4 up by half time! I have never witnessed a half of football where we didn’t look like a team. I had a long hard chat with them at half time told them that they need to get their fingers out and switch on otherwise this was going to be a cricket score!! I feared the worst to be honest but the boys either WOKE up or responded to the criticism I dished out! The 2nd half looked a completely different team from the first. We actually started to play some really nice football passing and attacks started to mount and we did to them what they did to us in the first half! Unfortunately Woodbank were already out of sight and were in cruise mode we got a goal back through Joshua Ward but they virtually repelled every attack. Cannot remember the amount of corners we had but I was sick of running down the hill for the ball!!!! Woodbank then nicked another goal in the 2nd half but overall play we bossed the 2nd half in my opinion. So will forget the first half 4-0 and remember the 2nd half 1-1 and take heart from the spirit they showed me in the 2nd half. Closing down pressuring the ball will be heavily worked on in training next week! Heading the ball was another weakness from our boys no one seemed to want to head the ball!! Chalk this one up to experience boys tough league going to be a lot more ups and downs before end of season but will take stock and try again next week!
Opponent: Littleboough Juniors Blue Date: 20/9/14 Venue: Away Result: LOST 5-2 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. New jackets had arrived for all the boys thanks to TRUE CHARTERED FINANCIAL PLANNERS. The boys had worked well in training so was hoping that we would not have a repeat performance of last weeks poor start to a game. We quickly went behind to a sloppy goal and I thought here we go Page | 5
again it’s going to be a long morning. But to their credit we battled hard and the game was a closely fought with both teams having some great attacks. We equalised with 21 mins gone with a goal from Joshua Ward taking him to top scorer with 3. In my opinion we shaded them in the first half and these were the league winners from last year! I was sooo pleased with their performance after last week’s poor first half. Harry Bentham had a couple of lapses in concentration that led to some last ditch defending and good goalkeeping but he took a ball clean on the nose with blood flowing had to come off even though he didn’t want to nurse Colin tried to stem the flow! Bilal was put in at left back, which he hates but is really good in that position which earned him M.O.M from Colin. Alex had probably one bad moment were he passed a ball without looking straight to an opposing player but luckily wasn’t punished with conceding a goal but overall had a solid game in central defence earning him M.O.M from me. Harry Walsh came on and again made some great runs, but as we’ve said previously doing far too much. Loosing the ball with players in better position than him and effectively taking them out of the game when move broke down. Having said that he ran tirelessly tracking back when moves broke down and did some good passing occasionally! Adam was having an off day missing some basic tackles along with Jozef dangling legs out with opposing players easily getting past them. At Half time it was 1-1. Then the 2nd half started I really felt for the boys but they were sloppy with the ball and kept loosing it with four players to far up the pitch leaving 5 on 3 several times which led to 3 quick goals from Littleborough less than 5 minutes in it was 4-1! I was shell shocked couldn’t believe after all the hard work in the first half that we were now loosing 4-1!!! To the credit of the boys they tried their hearts out with some good attacking play. Oliver Barlow had the left back turned inside out just missing that final quality ball into the box. Harry Walsh again making runs taking on players got up the left into box past a couple of defenders with two in the box I wanted to see a pass but Harry being Harry took on the shot from a tight angle which was saved but only pushed out into the path of Lewis for him to smash into the net from the rebound. Charlie had a fairly good game in net can’t say any of the goals were his fault, he did give away a free kick on edge of box for a handball from a kick out of his hands going out of his area. He had done a couple in the first half that went unnoticed luckily the free kick went wide. The half went so quick that I forgot to put a couple of the boys back on so apologies Ben and co. Will put Colin in charge of making sure all get a fair amount of game time! Littleborough then added insult to injury by scoring a fifth. Take 2nd half of match v Woodbank from week before and 1st half of this match and we will have some close games!! To weak in the tackle, no tracking back when move breaks down in midfield, certain players taking to long on the ball when an easy pass is on. Still work in progress boys I’m still learning with new systems 9v9 bigger pitches bigger nets. Keep trying guys we all have weaknesses to improve on. We have an open Saturday next week with majority doing entrance exams so good luck with those. Training moves to Cardinal Langley 3G pitches so at least we can work on passing on crisp smooth surface. Still work in progress boys just very disappointed for the boys with the start to 2nd half. Colin and Myself will work on the above in training.

Opponent: Bolton County Vipers Date: 13/9/14 Venue: Away Result: LOST 4-1 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager.
Couple of us got lost going to this game as we played their 2nd team in a friendly at a different venue during summer! Everyone eventually turned up before K.O so all was good. Oliver Mcdonald turned up not feeling so good so he started sub. Charlie Griffin was absent so Jozef Gordon took the No.1 jersey and was told to be ready for a busy day! First half kicked off and to be fair our boys were holding their own against a strong, well drilled, Bolton side. We in my view were unlucky to go into half time 1-0 down. Told all the boys at half time that it was best performance to dates so far. 2nd half started as first half Lewis Lundon earned us a free kick just outside box which Oliver Mcdonald took the ball so gave him the nod. Think Lewis really wanted it but sent him into the box and told Ollie Mc to launch on target. The ball was despatched goal bound but unfortunately for Ollie Mc it took a nick off Lewis, which sent it slightly more into corner out of keepers reach. Lewis worked tirelessly pressing players high up the pitch making them rush into mistakes and chasing back. This again for me gave him M.O.M not for the goal but for the effort he put in. Ollie Mc and Harry Bentham were close behind both leaving opponents on the floor with strong but fair challenges. The rest of the boys need to follow in these three players footsteps and get more aggressive and stronger in the challenge. Jozef Gordon was having a good game in net making several good saves to keep the score respectable which gave him M.O.M from parents and Colin. But eventually Bolton scored their 2nd as our midfield tried to push on to get another goal and left to big a gap between midfield and defence. The Bolton keeper pulled off a top save at 2-1, which might have swung the game little but after that it was pretty much Bolton attacking with some very weak defending on our part leading to 2 more unanswered goals by the end. Sloppy defending and midfield not tracking back led to the eventual 4-1, defeat. There were a lot more positives to take out of this game than the previous games but still quite a lot to work on. I will change formation to try and stabilise the midfield and defence. Having only one sub also led to boys getting tired. We will keep on trying though that’s all I can ask from the boys.
Opponent: Cheetham Hill Blues Date: 11/10/14 Venue: Home Result: LOST 6-0 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. Again a game of two halves is becoming the thyme to these reports!! I cannot actually believe how the score line got to this after our first half performance! We were closing down passing the ball fairly well at times and on reflection probably deserved the 0-0 scoreline at half time. I had asked the boys to play in a particular formation, which seemed to work well. Good grafting performance. Half time came and told them all well done but the same was required in the 2nd half stay in formation. 2nd half started and for some reason the closing down and pressing ball had stopped and Page | 7
the shape had gone from the 1st half and maybe a little over confidence from 1st half and boys tried like last week to push forward for a goal. Defending is not just down to the guys at the back defending! It starts in midfield. Several players were nowhere near where the position I’d asked them to play in! Resulting in BIG holes for Cheetham Hill to expose when we lost the ball. Not passing the ball with an easy lay off instead of running at 3 players is always going to result in the ball being given easily back to the opposition! This is a TEAM game not an individual game pass and move is what we do in training this needs to be translated onto field on match day. Losing 6 goals in a half is unjustifiable after a good strong 1st half was so disappointed could not give a M.O.M to anyone today. One glimmer of a goal came from a penalty awarded that neither I or opposing manager knew why but unfortunately Lewis Lundon hit the ball well placed far to keepers right but the keeper pulled off an outstanding save to keep us to our first game without a goal. Chalk up to experience and move on I think!!
Opponent: Rossendale Valley Pumas Date: 18/10/14 Venue: Away Result: LOST 11-3 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. Had several players missing for this game Harry Walsh, Jozef Gordon (Swimming) Alex Johnson (City game) Adam Hamid came to watch but was ill in the night admired him for coming to support the team. New signing Haashim Shafi was thrown into central defence in absence of Alex. Jozef came back from Wigan to play but might as well have stayed there as his performance was well below par! This Rossendale team are a quality outfit and have been together some time so knew this was going to probably be our biggest challenge. It has to be said the referee who was refereeing his first ever match was extremely poor and that’s being kind! Three of their goals should not have stood two hand balls and a clear foul and we had a clear handball penalty declined so should have been 8-4 in my view with Rossendale clearly a better team on this particular day. Bilal Yasin put up the most fight in our team tackling tenaciously and creating probably most of our attacks with great runs after strong challenges. Haashim was out of position but had to play him in central defence he read the game well and intercepted a lot of passes and distributed well but when pace came at him he was unable to respond with size and power running at him. Alex would have faired better in that position. Oliver Barlow scored a wonderful goal hitting a lovely shot beating a good keeper comprehensively. Lewis Lundon again showed grit and determination but was hit several times with crunching tackles, which went unchecked by the official. He batted on and deserved to be on the score sheet. He wanted to take the penalty but after missing a penalty last week gave it to Oliver Barlow who despatched with ease past a big keeper. I don’t mind getting beat as long as its fair and square even opposing manager said the referee was shocking. What I don’t want to see though is parents and boys having a go at an official. There are ways and means of dealing with this and that is down to the MANAGER ME! Charlie Griffin had a good game making some good saves cannot really fault him for any of the goals. However he did get involved with an opponent, which I don’t want to see again. Joshua ward was showing signs of tackling a bit stronger today but looked tired at times need him to get fitter and get back on that score sheet. Harry Bentham was having a strong match until he took a tumble in our box felling the opponent look like he’d been shot but actually had turned his ankle and had to come off. We all had a laugh including him, which was good to see. This Page | 8
will hopefully be our only double figured defeat with several players missing it was never going to be easy. But I still want to see the guys all pulling their weight and getting stuck in to many weak tackles Jozef Gordon dangling leg out turning back on ball is one of my biggest pet hates! Would be interesting to see the return result back at our home ground next time we play them with a full squad at my disposal.
Opponent: Walshaw Sports Club Date: 01/11/14 Venue: Away Result: LOST 7-2 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. Well what can I say again a game of two contrasting halves yet again! We went down 2 goals quite early on with Jozef Gordon deputising for Charlie Griffin in net due to holidays. We then fought back with some good team play some lovely passing was on show, which was nice to see. This resulted in an easy tap in for Harry Walsh for his first long awaited league goal of the season. The cream of the goals has to go to Lewis Lundon though as he skipped through two tackles and chipped the keeper great finish. The boys showed great spirit in that first half I though we were on for a cricket score as Walshaw boys are big physical lads. As always we are showing great promise going forward with some really nice looking football on a surface fit for cows with long grass and a fairly steep incline! Couple of players went missing today.. They know who they are not going to mention names. Basic errors are costing us goals. Formation is there for a reason and it shows when we play a first half and are drawing the game going into the game or close by a goal or two. Heading the ball is a basic football skill some of the boys seem scared of it! I asked for a two three, three, formation, which I got in the first half. Again in the 2nd as previous weeks this I had 6 centre forwards!!! Lost the ball high up pitch and then had 7 on 2 defenders! Enough said 5 second half goals is unacceptable and ¾ in a mad 5 minutes again! Yes the refereeing was poor again but would not have affected the result it is down to us to defend correctly and cut out basic errors in disciplined formation play, not headless chickens bombing about pitch or ball watching or making no effort whatsoever to get back goal side. I can’t write anymore about the 2nd half as it annoys me to much to see all good work and plans go out the window. Heading the ball will be worked on in training and defending as a unit.. I’m tempted to make you all run for the full hour but won’t. Calm positive thoughts!!! We need a win or a closer contested 2nd half without a mad 5 minutes of goals in back of our net! Keep going boys I will try my hardest to get you to where I want you to be. It won’t be through lack of trying but we will be lucky to stay up this year if results keep going this way.
Opponent: Roach Dynamos Orange Date: 15/11/14 Venue: Home Result: WIN 5-1 Match report: Krys Gordon Manager. Had a full squad of 13 today, which was nice to see. The match started off as a tussle in midfield with both teams trying to go forward. We started brightly keeping formation and pressing a closing down a little better than previous matches. The stalemate was broken 26mins in with a through ball from Harry Walsh to Lewis Lundon who held off the defender to toe poke under keeper for the first goal. Page | 9
Three minutes later Harry Walsh managed to get the ball to go swing for the ball but went through his legs with an open goal twist round and managed to tap in 2nd attempt on 29 minutes. Lewis also just before this managed to miss the ball trying to strike first time and ended up on his backside.. Overall this was a good first half got into the boys at half time saying I did not want a result like all the other previous games us playing a 1st half well and then conceding several goals first five minutes. I changed formation slightly to bolster midfield and take an attacker beck into that midfield. Only 4minutes twenty seconds in they scored! I thought here we go again 2nd half jinx! After that though the game was end to end with our defence holding up well with some tenacious tackles from Harry Bentham, Alex Johnson and especially Bilal Yasin who was MOM fro coach and parents. After 48 minutes Bilal tackled in own half and ran with ball up right wing going past several players cut inside and slotted home for our 3rd goal. Joshua Ward played in a couple of positions for us today but looked a bit leggy. Took a free kick which went slightly off target from edge of box on his left foot side, we took him off a couple of times more than I’d liked so he will hopefully get a few more minutes in next game. Adam Hamid and Haashim Shafi missed a few tackles but on the ball were composed went past an attacker and laid the ball off nicely. One to note in central midfield Adam skipped round a would be tackler and distributed a lovely ball over to the left to Ben Shephard who passed over to Harry Walsh who then paused instead of turning and shooting. Couple of times Harry Walsh and Oliver Barlow were a bit slow to release the ball with an easy pass and ran into trouble and tackled easily but overall getting a lot better with this. Passing was nice and crisp most of the time and they were trying to work as a team, which I liked to see. The goal of the game though in my view was our fourth on 52 minutes a well worked move from defence with Bilal running up the right provided a lovely cross which Jozef Gordon ran onto perfectly and connected with his head to easily beat keeper 4-1. Then our last goal was put away by Jozef again telling Harry Walsh to leave is the ball broke in the box slotted home with wrong foot into bottom right corner out of keepers reach. Oliver Mcdonald was tenacious as ever but was walking sometimes when we didn’t have the ball he’s not the only one. He also made some nice moves and passed well. Charlie Griffin didn’t have much to do and I will take responsibility for a short pass from a goal kick, which I asked Charlie to do which nearly resulted in s goal. Still lots to work on, tackling still a little weak from certain players tracking back when we have not got the ball and positional awareness. Overall a pleasing result but against better opponents we need to improve week on week.
