Match reports: Opponent: Chaddy Griffins Date: 05/10/13 Venue: Away Result: Lost 6-2 Without doubt the worst performance in 4 years of managing the team. We never competed and were second best all over the pitch. Chaddy dominated us from start to finish. Only Thomas showed any fight and spirit, the rest of the team never got out of bed. Not much i can put in this report other than very disappointing.
Opponent: Alleycats Date: 12/10/13 Venue: Home Result: Lost 3-0 After last week I was looking for a reaction. We started slow and a little bit nervous for some reason. By half time we found ourselves 3-0 down and feeling a little sorry for ourselves. The second half was a different story as we created chance after chance but just couldn’t put the ball in the net. The second half performance was much improved and i hope it helps us turn a corner and get back on track. Better effort today boys, but lots of hard work ahead. Opponent: Oldham rangers Date: 19/10/13 Venue: Away Result: Won 7-1 Without doubt the best performance of the season. We played for the full match with confidence and it showed as the football we played was absolutely fabulous. The passing and movement mixed with the effort and commitment resulted in a comprehensive win over an opponent who had had some good results as of late. We turned up wanted to turn our season round and we really did do that. There were too many good moments to mention, but our third goal which i believe every player contributed to with a pass before it was put in the net was the best goal ever scored by us. Turn up and play like that boys and you will be very difficult to beat.....Very well done

Opponent: Rossendale valley Date: 09/11/13 Venue: Home Result: Won 7-1 This is a very easy report to do as the commitment and football produced today by every player was outstanding. Rossendale scored early and apart from the first 5 minutes we never let Rossendale settle on the ball and played some football that was equally as good as our last game. We won every tackle and ran our socks off. I can’t really mention individual players as this was another very good TEAM performance. At Oldham we scored a goal with 11 passes and this week scored another wonderful team goal with 8 passes. Boys what can I say other than well done and let’s keep it going. Opponent: Bridge Hawks Date: 30/11/13 Venue: Home Result: Won 5-3 A derby cup game. We started as we had played in our previous games playing fantastic pass and move football, with everyone contributing. Bridge had no answer and we quickly went 3 nil up with some wonderful goals all coming from passing football. With 5 mins of the half bridge got 2 goals from our mistakes and this let them back into the game. Half time 3-2 In the second half we were constantly under pressure as we stopped passing as much as in the first half plus bridge had upped their game due to the goals they scored before half time. The good thing to come out of the second half was how we battled to get the result we needed. Late on we put some good passing moves together which resulted in 2 goals for us. Bridge replied on the whistle with a goal. Result 5-3.... If we can try to do the simple things throughout the game we can be unplayable....That said well-done boys for showing a good fighting spirit when needed
Opponent: Radcliffe Aces Date: 07/12/13 Venue: Away Result: Won 3-2 Always a tough away fixture where plenty spirit and grit is needed to get a result. The game was a very tight affair with Pennine taking the lead through our goal machine Olly g. Radcliffe replied with two goals that maybe we could have dealt with a little better. 1-2 Half time. After the break could we come from behind against a very tough and able opponent. Page | 5
We started well and straight away a bullet of a shot flew in the top corner from Ben Hopwood 2-2 game on. From then a draw would have been a fair result, but late on there was a twist when Thomas cleared the ball and Olly g chased it down to get us a corner. With 30 seconds to go a corner from Ben was headed in by Olly 3-2 game over... great result boys and well deserved. Opponent: Griffins Date: 14/12/13 Venue: Home Result: Won 4-0 Difficult game again against a team with only 8 players, but you can only play against what’s in front of you and we played very well with some good passing of the ball which made it very difficult for our opponents. What was very pleasing was our goals from corners, we looked very dangerous every corner we had. A second half bullet from shay ended the game 4-0. Half season player report Chris...very impressive saves and your reading of the game is the best in the league...excellent Jude...moved on a level with your football and your positioning is getting better.....super Dion...lovely football brain, coped well with playing different positions, keep this level up...fabulous Connor....very competent, comfortable and second to none when reading where the danger is....brilliant Will...it’s like you’ve played in the league for years, lovely neat footballer, keep it up.....excellent Max...intelligent footballer and leader by example every week, range of passing is great.....brilliant Ben...Duracell Ben...unbelievable energy, good football brain, playing great every week.....fabulous Liam...a true competitor, like a little warrior, football skills improving and excellent contribution to each game....brilliant Shay...big improvement on passing and game play, always has a nose for goal, will to win, invaluable to us.....brilliant Thomas....a rock in defence, football has improved massively, best defender in the league.......super Olly g....a goal machine, link up play much better, desire, will to win, everything you need from your centre forward....excellent Great first half of the season.....best footballing team in the league bar none.....keep playing football

Opponent: Oldham Venue: Home Date 18/01/14 Result: Won 6-2 Oldham is always a tough game and this was no exception. There was not much in it at the start and the game was a little frenetic. We took the league from a long shot from Olly that went through the keepers legs. Oldham replied with a scruffy goal from a corner we should have cleared. The game continued to be tight until a lovely cross was headed home by Olly. Either team could have scored more but Oldham were denied by some great save by Chris Fleming. Half time 2-1. In the second half we played better football and deservedly got another goal to leads 3-1. Again Oldham got another scruffy goal to pull it back to 3-2. Now it was a tight game and Chris was pulling off some great 1v1 saves. Finally a bit of breathing space when Liam scored a neat goal to make it 4-2. We now had our passing game going and followed that goal with two more from Olly and a nice chip from Liam. In the end our passing had Oldham tired and we ran out comfortable winners, but the score doesn’t reflect how tight it was. Good three points......but we need to talk more on the pitch to let each other know where the danger is and help each other out Opponent: Oldham Venue: Home Date: 07/02/14 Result: Pennine win on penalties Cup game against a very underrated Oldham side. The game was very tight in very difficult windy conditions. Oldham took the lead midway through the first half, but we quickly equalised through a good move and finish from Olly. In the second half both teams were creating chances and giving it their all. Five mins from the end a neat finish from Shay gave us the lead, but we couldn’t just hold on and Oldham equalised. PENALTIES were to decide it. Max scored, they missed. Shay scored, they missed. Thomas scored, they scored, which meant if we scored we won. Up stepped a confident Will Symonds who stroked it home. Happy days. Well done boys a very gritty win Opponent: Springhead Venue: Home Date: 8th March 2014 Result: Win 5-3 Yet another tough game against an equally talented and much improved springhead side. Pennine started very well playing some good stuff. As the half went on springhead gained a bit of control and were playing very well. Against the run of play we went 2-0 nil up with a neat header at the far post from Olly from Bens corner and a second came from a mistake in the springhead defence let Will in to neatly slide the ball into the bottom corner. Springhead kept pushing and deservedly got two goals back to make it 2-2 at half time.

The second half started in much the same vain with springhead playing the better football, but to our credit we hung in their and started to play some neat football ourselves which resulted in a third for us from Olly. I think at this point we thought we had won the game and lost our focus and immediately let them in for an equaliser 3-3. At this point i would have settled for a draw, but thankfully i have team with more confidence and drive than me. We were now finishing the game strong and a great ball over the top sent Liam away who forced a fine save from the keeper, but he wasnt finished and he lobbed the keeper with a great finish 4-3. Now i thought lets shut up shop for the last 3 mins, but do my lot listen NO, and good job too as a pass from Liam got to Olly who drilled a great shot in the top corner 5-3 thankfully game over. Well done boys, showed a lot of bottle today. Opponent: Radcliffe Reds Date: 15th March Venue: Home Result: 1-1 win on pens Cup quarter final against the leaders of the division below. The game in general was a scrappy affair played on a lively pitch with windy conditions. I feel Pennine had the best of the first half and Redcliffe the second. It was 0-0 at half time. We scored early in the second half from a great header from Liam and they scored a great free kick 5 mins from the end. 11 full time, and so we go to penalties again. I always fancied us when it went to penalties as we have good penalty takers and the best keeper. We scored 3 from our first 4 and Radcliffe only scored 1 with two saves by Chris and one miss. Again we’ve grafted a win. Well done boys....(small but, more football please). Semi here we come. Opponent: Bridge Eagles Date: 22nd March 14 Venue: Home Result: 2-1 win Poor game where we huffed and puffed but apart from the first ten minutes played very little football. Credit due for grinding out a result, but a poor quality game Opponent: Bridge Hawks Date: 29th March 14 Venue: Home Result 3-1 win Much better this week and after a shaky start we were always in control of the game. Good passing and some great goals. Totally different from last week. Well played boys. Opponent :The Dads Date: 18th April 14 Venue: HMP Pontins Southport Result : Lads 4-Dads 5 The lads were feeling confident as their form going in to the game was good, the dads warmed up with lager, cider, and a few other dodgy beverages, the dads were relying on experience from a far gone era, but were determined to be a WELL OILED machine. The game kicked off without the dads talisman Steve (manager) who was at a meeting (the pub). Page | 8
The lads dominated early as the fact they could actually run was to their advantage, and quickly took the lead. The game was 2-1 to the lads when Steve returned from the meeting and fell on to the pitch. A few changes needed to be made and Scott was threatened with being subbed for beryl as drinking 45 pints of lager is no excuse for that level of performance. The dads were starting to turn the screw with Dave s pulling off some fine saves to his left, fortunately the lads never knew he can’t dive to the right and Kev was holding the backline together as none of the other dads bothered to come back. Stuart was dominating his son Thomas until he fell to pieces and his knee disintegrated, he sank a pint and came back on, now we know where Thomas gets it from. Damian was useless, sorry useful with his long throws and Dave b and Adam in the engine room of midfield doing the running as nobody else was capable, both tried very hard with limited ability, but as a collective unit the dads were surprisingly effective. The problem the lads now had was that the dads had the SAS of Steve and Stansfield upfront who were proving unplayable. The game was to and fro with the lads going 4-3 up with two minutes to go, and then the SAS struck with two devastating goals in the final seconds to send the lads to bed devastated and with howls of laughter ringing in their ears from the graceful winners. Stansfield was tested for performance enhancing substances, but the result was inconclusive. Man of the match...not surprisingly S Marrow
