On November 25, staff from PPMC Addictions Services continued its annual tradition of making and serving a Thanksgiving meal to all of the participants of the program.

PENN PRESBYTERIAN GETS CANADIAN FAST-CASUAL RESTAURANT

Last month, PPMC’s opened the doors to Freshii, a dining option located in the newly opened Cupp lobby corridor. The Philadelphia Business Journal covered the grand opening: A Canadian health-focused fast-casual restaurant has returned to Philadelphia.

Freshii, which has headquarters in Toronto and Chicago, has opened another spot in Philadelphia at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center’s Cupp Building in a 50-seat, 1,200-square-foot space.

Once again this year, staff from the MICU donated their time to serve a luncheon and visit with residents at the Rudolphy Home for the Blind.

The restaurant chain focuses on a healthy menu and includes breakfast, soups, wraps, bowls, burritos, salads, frozen yogurt, juices and smoothies.

The Penn Presbyterian location is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Penn Program for Mindfulness Winter 2016 Course Offerings: The Penn Program for Mindfulness offers Mindfulness-based Stress Management programs that teach individuals how to use meditation as the primary tool for long-term stress management.

Join PPMC’s 2016 Celebration of the Martin Luther King, JR. Holiday

PUBLIC PROGRAMS Foundation Stress Management Program: 8-week courses start the week of January 25th This highly-acclaimed 8-week course will teach you a variety of meditation techniques to help you to cultivate relaxation, clarity and stillness in your day-to-day life. Eight 2-½ hour weekly classes plus a full-day retreat.

ADVANCED MINDFULNESS PROGRAMS (PREREQUISITES APPLY) Our Advanced programs provide a more detailed exploration of the foundations of meditation and are open to individuals who have completed an 8 week Mindfulness-based Stress Management Foundation Program or similar training and approval by the instructor.

MINDFULNESS TEACHER TRAINING (PREREQUISITES APPLY) Practicum in Mindfulness: Spring 2016, 10-week program, April 23rd – June 25th This program offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the process of learning mindfulness and mindfulness-based stress management. The program combines the experience of a foundation mindfulness-based stress reduction class with analysis and discussion of the class content and process. (Pre-requisites apply.)

CERTIFICATE IN MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS MANAGEMENT The Penn Program for Mindfulness is pleased to announce the launch of its Certificate in Mindfulness-based Stress Management program.

This new certificate program is a follow-up to the Practicum (which is a pre-requisite) and provides intensive exploration of mindfulness practice as well as in-depth training on the fundamental teaching skills for mindfulness-based stress management.

For the past 48 years, the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has commemorated the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The upcoming national holiday is January 18, 2016, and in the weeks before and after, our hospital – along with the entire Penn community – will join people across the nation to honor the event.

Penn Presbyterian will emphasize activities that highlight a theme of Commitment to Service in a Diverse Community. Hospital committees as well as individual work groups (such as unit or office staff) may wish to develop projects as part of our overall observance. The Cultural Diversity Committee is organizing a drive to collect items for our behavioral health patients, and an interdisciplinary group will be offering a traveling presentation throughout the hospital on January 15th (the actual birthday) about how our care of patients connects with Dr. King’s legacy.
