Case Management Week

As part of the week-long Patient Experience Week, celebrated across the Health System from October 5-9, members of PPMC’s faculty, staff and leadership paused to recognize some very special employees who, over the past year, have exemplified what it means to “Be Someone’s Umbrella.” The seventh annual PPMC Patient Advocacy Recognition Reception awarded honors to 12 recipients from across the hospital, from clinical areas such as nursing and internal medicine, to non-clinical departments including security and the gift shop. “Without any one piece, an umbrella doesn’t work. And like the recipients of this year’s Patient Advocacy awards, without one of them, the patient experience doesn’t work,” said Marguerite Kerry, BSN, JD, director of the UPHS Office of Patient Affairs. The purpose of the annual event is to recognize those individuals who have partnered with Patient & Guest Relations and the Office of Patient Affairs in the pursuit of patient satisfaction, patient advocacy, and furthering the Penn patient experience. National Case Management Week was held on October 11 – 17. Over the past few decades, Case Management Week has become embedded into the case management community as a week-long celebration of this essential healthcare practice. The annual observance is an opportunity to bring attention to the contributions and commitments case managers make, and to recognize their commitment to improving health care. PPMC recognizes and appreciates the dedication and hard work of our nurse and social work case management team! They work closely with the interdisciplinary team to meet the complex discharge needs of our patients. They are doing an excellent job with the new patient population with the transition of Trauma from HUP to PPMC.
