about me Born in Mexico City in 1993 Industrial Design student at CENTRO. in Mexico City A lot of people call me Penny Lane I’m an art lover, I draw every day andI paint in different techniques. My hobbies include movies, literature, cartoons and comics. I have a deep interest in food. Specially in everything around the culture of coffee. The areas in product design I enjoy the most are: Designing for children and ceramics I believe that team work is very important.
1. LUNA
This project was made in 2015, during Design class by professor Joel Escalona, on my sixth semester. The objective was to create a product made of silver 925 to participate on the contest Premio Nacional de La Plata Hugo Salinas Price. We were aiming for a product, that besides its decorative or aesthetic proposes, would take advantage of the qualities in the material. So I chose to work with the fact that silver tends to enhance the sound in musical instruments. During my research I found the necessity of wearing a whistle to create an alert in case of emergency (robberies, assaults, attacks, etc) There were some whistles in the market but none that could be considered a piece of jewelery that you could wear everyday. Silver is an element that represents protection, which is also stated in the concept of an “emergency whistle.
My first prototypes where created from a soda can. They produced sound, therefore it was the time to take it to the next level and start working with silver.
The two whistles are sold separately and made of pure silver 925 including the chain, the weight of the pieces is aproximately 12 grams each.
The project was selected and exposed at the MAP (Museum of Folk Arts), together with the best projects. The pieces were bought by the foundation Salinas Price as a part of their silver collection. Later , in October 2015, the project became part of Mexico’s City Design Week at La Torre del Reloj in Polanco. It also became part of the collection owned by CENTRO. So it was sold in Zona Maco, the biggest art and design fair in Latin America, in 2016.

2. 123 BOT
This is a project created during my seventh semester in the class of professor Ashby Solano in collaboration with other four students, Mariana Loaiza, Constanza Jardรณn, Luciana Ferro and Melisa Salas. With the help of the technology of Arduino we wanted to create a product that could teach people the basics of electronics. The result is a kit to build three paper robots, with high edge technology and origami, each robot has a different level of complexity and they can be customised. It was an important project because it breaks with the stereotype that electronics is a men thing. We were able to prove that women can also build robots. Besides this project was meant for all ages. The kit includes different layers of paper with printed instructions to create different characters together with the electronic components for the creation of different characters.

3. DESAPRENDIZAJE
This is my thesis project, which I am currently working on, with the advice of professor Fernando JimÊnez. When you go to elementary school they take away all your creativity, which is an essential of the essence of every human being. I’m trying to find the way to unlearn what they taught us and to break with every paradigm that they imposed us to get back our childlike souls and our creative energy. I needed to break the routines of the things we do everyday, specifically eating. My proposal is a new way of eating, to break the rules and finally being able to play with your food. Children and adults will eat on the same table, with the same utensils. By playing with food the project creates a new relationship between parents and their children, in which they are more equal and carefree. On the table parents will learn from their children, only to remember the things that are really important in life.

Production of the plaster moulds
The material I chose is ceramic, in order for it to build the bridge between childhood and adulthood. This material has qualities of both stages of life. First it is some kind of mud, sticky and dirty, things that belong to the world of a kid. Then you put it in the oven and it becomes a material that belongs to the world of adults, a cold, sharp, fragile and valuable object. Howerver, because I am looking forward to stimulate the five senses. I’ll be using silver for the cutlery. This in order to produce a sound every time the silverware bumps with the ceramic dishware. The way to play with food is using this utensils that balance through the table and are not stable. The dish is made for sharing so you literally break it in order to share it with someone else. The cutlery is shorter than conventional to give you the chance to be in contact with the food, to lose the fear of eating with your hands.
4. KOE
Koe is a communication device designed for couples that live together but don’t see each other during the day. The project was realized in the design class of the professor Ashby Solano on winter of 2015 in collaboration with Mariana Loaiza, Luciana Ferro, Melisa Salas and Constanza Jardón. It’s a cylindrical object that can keep messages inside it’s just like a “message in a bottle”. You speak through a microphone and then a light will announce to the other person that there is a message recorded on the device, then he/she may take the object and turn it over to let the message out.
5. DALEKS
The daleks are the most evil creature of the universe because they will not have mercy. They appear on the british TV series Doctor Who. They are the worst enemy of the Doctor and they try to end with every creature that is not a Dalek. In 2015 I redesigned the Daleks for a drawing class with professor Javier Diaque. I tried to make them more resistant to attacks and to make it easier for them to move.

6. THE BULL
The Bull is a team project made for the Wanted Design Workshop in New York City in the year 2016, directed by Matt Sindall. The theme of the project was playfulness, so we had to create a playful object with the materials wood, textiles or glass. We chose wood. We wanted to create a simple object to focus in the importance of play. In the course of 4 days we made a wooden bench that is just a surface hold by a big wooden wheel. Two people can sit on it and play until they find balance.
We ( Montserrat Pazos, Roman Weil, Fatima Safie, Dario Vidal and Behnia Rahmati) presented the final project, to several judges from different fields in Wanted Design Manhattan on May 2016.
