Category 3 fires prohibited

Effective as of noon on Wednesday, June 12, Category 3 open fires are prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, which includes the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District and the Selkirk Natural Resource District. The BC Wildfire Service is implementing this prohibition to help prevent wildfires caused by Category 3 burning and to protect public safety. RDCK Water Conservation Measures in effect now

Stage 1 Water Conservation Measures go into effect automatically each year from June 1 to September 30 for all Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) water systems. There are four stages and stricter measures may be required if demand increases significantly, hot and dry weather prevails, or if reservoirs decline to critically low levels. Stage 1 Water Conservation Measures include: â&#x20AC;˘ Watering of lawns (including new lawns), gardens, trees and shrubs ONLY between the hours of 7 pm to 10 am. â&#x20AC;˘ Watering using drip irrigation, a watering can and or hand held hose is permitted at any time.

Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures are also now in effect for the Riondel Water System only, effective immediately, due to the tendency for low water levels in the reservoir in the summer months. For Stage 2 measures, watering of lawns (including new lawns), gardens, trees and shrubs is permitted ONLY between the hours of 6 am to 10 am and 8 pm to 10 pm.
