Would your acreage benefit from soil amendment? Mercer Celgar is looking for landowners with 2 or more acres within 55 km of Castlegar that would benefit from using their Celgrow soil amendment. Pastures and hay fields are good options. Mercer Celgar will cover the costs of a qualified professional performing soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and delivery costs of Celgrow soil amendment based on access with a large truck/pup combination. Acreage should be able to accommodate at least 6 truck/pup loads. The two major components of Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping process and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria are a good source of soil nutrients. The landowner is responsible for spreading and incorporating Celgrow into their soil.

WEST KOOTENAY ANIMAL CENTRE CAMP

Our camps are for animal loving kids to learn about wild, domestic and farm animals through games, crafts, action projects, guest speakers and other activities. Campers also learn about pet care, safety and animal body language, while spending some quality time every day with adoptable animals in the shelter. In our branch we are fortunate enough to have a beautiful, bright education room where campers hang out and learn, while right down the hall our furry friends are happy to get the love and attention that comes from the kids! We pack the day with fun and learning, helping empower kids to speak up for animals and make a difference in the world.

Can We Do I t ?? Could a vegetable oil powered bus be in the West Kootenay’s future as a green alternative to an abandoned Greyhound route? Mountain Man Mike’s, a Kaslo, BC Inter-City Bus applicant, is fighting to make it a reality and needs your help. We are in need of letters from individuals, businesses, and organizations that feel the Nelson to Vancouver Greyhound route needs a service provider. Our intention is to run a bus on blended bio diesel fuel from Kaslo to Vancouver, with stops in Balfour, Nelson, Castlegar, Osoyoos and other small towns along Highway 3. We will be starting a weekly service within the next 2 months if approved, and will increase our service as ridership dictates. The transportation board requires us to provide proof of public need. Please see below for information needed in letters to make them applicable to the application. I wish to submit the letters as soon as possible once we receive enough support, so please don’t wait, write one today. All letters must include: • why, when and how often the writer needs the inter-city bus service or route along the corridor the applicant wants to serve. • whether the writer uses any other inter-city bus services now • why the writer would use the applicant’s proposed service rather than one that is currently operating. • the writer’s name, signature and contact information Email letters to mhathaway442@gmail.com NOTE: letters or e-mails may be treated as a public document as part of the Passenger Transportation Board’s licence.

Cascadia Timber Supply Area (TSA)

TIMBER SUPPLY ANALYSIS PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT The public is invited to provide comment on the timber supply analysis for the Cascadia TSA. The Cascadia TSA was established on July 16, 2011, and covers approximately 317,000 hectares (ha). It is comprised of 11 Blocks located in Southeast BC, the Cariboo, and Northwest BC, ranging in size from 2,000 ha to 83,000 ha. The timber supply analysis provides the province’s chief forester with information required to determine the allowable annual cut (AAC) — the maximum volume of timber to be harvested from the TSA — for the next 10 years. The chief forester will consider public and First Nations input, and other information required under the Forest Act when a new AAC is determined. The analysis report will be available for viewing from March 7, 2019 to May 6, 2019, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 4 pm, at the following Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development district locations. Please call ahead to arrange an appointment to view. • Castlegar Office, 845 Columbia Avenue, Castlegar, 250 365-8600 • Revelstoke Office, 1761 Big Eddy Road, Revelstoke, 250 837-7611 • Quesnel Office, 322 Johnston Avenue, Quesnel, 250 992-4400 • Coast Mountains Office, 5220 Keith Avenue, Terrace, 250 638-5100 The report will also be available online at: http://ow.ly/JL9y30nNWGP Comments must be made in writing and received no later than 4:30 pm, Monday, May 6, 2019. Oxygen Art Centre invites you... Join us in our second in a series of weekend long master classes in critical writing on art, led by art writer and scholar Tracy Valcourt. This is a unique opportunity for practicing artists, curators and arts writers to hone their critical writing skills, whether writing about your own work or the work of other artists. The workshop will run over the weekend of March 8 to 10 beginning with a public lecture on Friday, March 8, a writing workshop on Saturday, followed by oneon-one consultations until 5 pm. On Sunday there will be opportunities for in-town studio visits with Valcourt. Enrolment is limited for both the workshop and studio visits so register early. Tracy Valcourt lives and works in Montreal, where she is a doctoral candidate and lecturer in art and writing at Concordia University. Valcourt also has a long-time connection to the Kootenays, where she studied writing and sculpture at Kootenay School of Art. She has written reviews and feature articles for Border Crossings magazine since 2005 and is working on a chapter for a book, Artistic Approaches to Cultural Mapping, with Dr. Sebastian Caquard. As part of her visit to Nelson, Valcourt will give a talk on her doctoral work which investigates perceptions of landscape from an aerial perspective in a time of climate crisis, titled Scene from Above: Aerial Views of Landscapes in Crisis. This series is sponsored by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance. For details, course costs and to register for the course go to www.oxygenartcentre.org/ classes/adult/ - Oxygen Art Centre
