The Nelson Potorium Morag, Meg, Candace, Logan
Chris Campbell 471A Baker Street, Nelson 250-352-6612 www.nelsonpotorium.ca
Your first choice for craft cannabis health options in the Kootenays We are a locally owned and family run business with more than 30 years of Kootenay residency. Our Nelson brick and mortar storefront has been open for over a year and a half on Baker Street. The Nelson Potorium is a Medical Cannabis Dispensary. We provide exceptional products through our Nelson location, and to clients all across Canada through a reliable and secure mail order service. Our mission is to supply our patrons with the highest quality cannabis. We do that by supporting local artisan producers and setting standards in product testing to ensure consistency and reliability.
The Kootenay region has been home to some of the world’s finest cannabis products for decades. Ideal growing conditions partnered with integral cultivation practices has resulted in a sizeable and sustainable market that is innovative and beneficial to local communities. Nelson Potorium’s founder uncovered the benefits of cannabis, and specifically CBD, through her experience of being the primary caregiver for her son who had epilepsy. Chris’ personal experience of requiring thorough testing – and most importantly, a consistent and safe product – led her to opening Nelson Potorium.
The company is now looking to partner with a charity that is working with people coping with epilepsy. Our dedicated team brings a wealth of personal and professional experience that allows us to help you find the dosage, strains and products that are perfect for your needs. We love answering questions and want you to feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way along your journey with medical cannabis. Watch for our product selection to expand. We love serving Nelson and have big plans to fulfill all of our community’s cannabis needs.
Blue Sky Clothing Co. Fashion sized for real people.
511 Baker St, Nelson 250-354-0101 blueskyclothingco.com
Marilyn Cobban is on a life-mission. Twenty-five years ago, Marilyn underwent an intense period of self-examination: she realized life is short and she needed to do something meaningful with it. She had memories of her mother struggling to find clothes, an average 50-something woman who was short, and hard to fit. Thinking of her mother also brought her to thoughts of what made her happy: her love of clothes and of travel. The result was Marilyn’s passion: Blue Sky Clothing, fashion for real people, at prices that real people can afford. With no training in fashion, design, business, or merchandising, Marilyn started to hustle. Eighteen months later, she was in
Indonesia transporting bolts of naturally sourced fabric on the back of a scooter. The relationships that she fostered in Bali all those years ago have been longstanding. Today, Blue Sky provides stable employment and a secure lifestyle for 20 people in Bali, enabling them to purchase homes, cars and access to better education for their children. As Marilyn’s business grew, she realized she needed warmer fabrics for our Canadian winters. In Sichuan province, China, she was introduced to a woman named Sunny, and together they developed a line using silk, bamboo, cotton, linen and wool. All the while, Marilyn was delving into garment design. She wanted to make attractive clothes for all women: the busty women with full thighs, the women who combine size 18 trousers with size 12 tops… all the women who couldn’t find clothes that fit just right…
“It’s good that I had no background in fashion,” Marilyn laughs. “I had nothing to unlearn.” To this day, each Blue Sky garment is designed to fit women from XS to 4X – the achievement of an ongoing vision. Marilyn remembers the first day selling Blue Sky clothes. “A woman came out of the van in a long blue dress and said, ‘My husband has told me that I am fat every day for ten years… I think I look beautiful.’ Then she started to cry. We both did.” That long blue dress was one of the first pieces manufactured. Now Marilyn has nine locations in BC, plus wholesale customers and a busy online store. The clothes she sells are natural and breathable, labour practices are fair, and do-no-harm to the Earth or to others are core values. Marilyn now lives in North Vancouver and is happily married to her childhood sweetheart.

Pharmasave
Nelson’s Local Community Pharmacy 385 Baker Street, Nelson 250-352-2316 Ed Li, Manager
I was born in Nelson in 1980 and lived here through high school. I returned to the Kootenays with my family in 2013 after working my initial years as a pharmacist in the Okanagan. I saw this as an opportunity to contribute and give back to Nelson as a licensed pharmacist; I have always been impressed by the longstanding relationship that Pharmasave has with the Nelson community – over 35 years in operation here – and also by how our
team contributes to the health and wellness of the area. And we are local; our wonderful staff serving a vibrant community … who can ask for more? We offer specialty compounding, free local delivery on prescriptions, travel medicine, flu shots and vaccinations, a full range of ostomy care products, Ideal Protein weight loss management (for more information see: www.ipnelsonpharmasave.com ), a full line of natural supplements and alternative remedies, home health care sales and rentals. At Pharmasave
Nelson, it is all about personalized service, because we care about your health and wellness. We are always reaching out to our patients and customers, either through one on one counselling and medication reviews or with our monthly in-house seminars/clinics on such topics as weight management, blood pressure and hypertension, and bone density. At Pharmasave, we are always looking for ways to help you optimize your health and wellness; we will soon be introducing prescription delivery service to the north shore of Nelson. Kootenay Co-op 777 Baker St, Nelson 250-354-4077
The Kootenay Co-op has seen a lot of faces pass through our doors since our founders placed their first bulk order in 1972. From the very first day of the Co-op’s history to today, volunteers and community have been at the core of the Co-op’s mission. What keeps volunteers, staff, member-owners, and customers coming back to the Co-op? Let’s ask some of them: “I value the positive work environment, and co-workers who inspire me to work hard and laugh.” – Shannon McAllister, Staff Member
“I love working where I can stand behind the organization, and where the organization will stand with me.” – Alyssa Nebel, Staff Member
“I want to help in taking the next step and initiate change and healthy growth in our community.” – Alexandra Forsythe, Board Member
Kootenay Co-op’s Outreach Staff present a donation to Kootenay Organic Growers’ Society of 3% of daily sales. Donations are an important part of how Kootenay Co-op supports community initiatives. Our mission is to serve our members and community and strengthen our local food system by providing the highest quality, local, sustainable, and organic products at reasonable prices, in a welcoming environment, with exemplary customer service. We’re very proud to see people come in our store every day to socialize, have some really tasty food, and take home groceries that reflect their appreciation for community. We try to make a welcoming environment for everyone, whether you’re interested in exploration, education, or just eating good food!
Pennywise
Rick Wiltse, Advertising Strategist Serving Nelson Cell: 250-551-1754 rick@pennywiseads.com I moved to Kaslo in 2007 to work as the operating partner of Kaslo Front Street Market. Work had moved my family around the province for the previous nine years so we were excited to settle into Kaslo and root ourselves. My wife and I met in Nelson while attending Kootenay School of the Arts and always dreamed of moving back to this beautiful area. After ten years of running the Kaslo grocery store I was ready for a new challenge. The best part of my job was the people – my staff was fantastic and so were my customers. When Karma mentioned that this position with
Pennywise was available, I was very interested. I knew I wanted to make use of my years of retail and customer service experience, and also to continue working with the public. This was a great opportunity for me to help our local businesses flourish. I look forward to meeting more people, working closely with them, and seeing their businesses thrive.
When I am not working I can often be found in the arena or on the baseball field. Some of my other hobbies and interests include art, music, cooking, and being Dad.
