How will I be assessed? For all learners there are some key milestones they need to know in order for them to achieve the standard which is required.
1 2 3
Pre-course questionnaire This is about your previous experience and training, your current assessment of skill levels and what you hope to get out of the course, and space for examples of workplace conflicts that you might experience to help us customise role plays. Participants also need to complete an initial skills assessment and let us know if they have any particular needs or dietary requirements so that we can make the necessary adjustments.
Practical skills work on the 5-day trainer-led course Each learner will attend 5 days of training including practical activities, role plays and skills work. They will receive learning materials on the day, including all PowerPoint slides and any necessary hand-outs. Learners also get a free copy of E-book ‚From Argument to Agreement - Resolving Disputes through Mediation‘ which accompanies the course.
Assessment by trainer On the course each learner will be assessed on their mediation skills and will be continually appraised by the trainer on how they are doing and what they need to do should they fall below the desired standard. A final assessment role play will occur on days 4 and 5. A final assessment decision will be made by the end of the five days and fed back to the learners. A final written assessment is then provided for each learner by the trainer. Each learner is also expected to complete a short post-course practice reflection looking at what they have learned and how to utilise it in a real-life setting.

On course and post course work To complete the course you will need to be complete a pack of written course work to be submitted electronically (or on a hard copy, then scanned) or posted. The pack takes 6-8 hours to complete and is to be completed within four weeks of the conclusion of face to face training. Packs will be assessed and returned with feedback within weeks of receipt.
External verification Each learner builds up a portfolio of evidence during the training which will then be sampled and verified internally. A sample is then sent to be externally verified by the ILM. When the evidence is deemed to have met the required standards learners are finally certificated as having completed the programme successfully.

Course Feedback The trainer was very knowledgeable. The role plays and small group work was ideal – made me understand the impact of what is being said and how to manage difficult personal issues.
Without a doubt I would recommend this training brilliant course. Probably one of the best I have been on (and I’ve been on a lot). Jean Friend - Mediator Good Relations Oldham
John Pedretti, Project manager, Skanska
The course fully met my expectations and more … I now have a greater set of skills and techniques to be able to draw on. Practical real life role plays and discussion have been invaluable. Much more confident.
The trainer built on what knowledge we had and tailored to each person. It will help me in my role to mediate. Madeleine Reynolds HR buyer and manager IONScience.
