Hobcaw Shipyard was the most important shipyard (and largest) of the Carolinas, until the “last unpleasantness” between the states.
Artist conception of Hobcaw Shipyard. You can still see the cross beams of the slip ways at low tide.
Very few water front urban locations, have within its confines a fresh water lake, the one to the right of the house, a salt water lake to the left of the house; plus a natural depth of 18’ at low tide on a creek that is 7 miles to the ocean.
Hobcaw Shipyard is protected from hurricanes by being on the north side of Mount Pleasant. It is approximately 5 miles across high land (with many trees and houses to slow down the wind at ground level) from the the beaches of Sullivan’s Island, and Isle of Palms on the Atlantic Ocean.
What is inside? Southern living, i.e.: tall ceilings, heart pine, mahogany, integrated wood carvings, fireplaces (3), marble, etc. Ample bedrooms with walk in closets and bathrooms (5), living rooms (2), dining rooms (2), studios (2), library, loft, kitchen, pantry, laundry, ‌ with vistas and porches galore!
What is outside? Here are a few vistas within the grounds.
Bring your friends Plenty of parking (10 cars) in the garage; and docking space … this is the Spirit of SC a 145’ tall ship that draws 11’, and there are still slips for two 65’, one catamaran of 60’, and two 35’ all with 12’ of water at low tide; plus … a boat ramp useful at any tide..
