Throughout this term we have been preparing for the Cambridge Presentations, which is an exciting opportunity for us to showcase our interests and collections to teachers and fellow pupils. From the moment we learnt about the project, some were thrilled and confident while some were a bit nervous. This was a chance to dive deep into our hobbies and interests and share them with other people.
As I worked on my collection of mysteries, I found myself learning so much more than I had anticipated. I discovered fascinating facts and information that improved my understanding.
For preparation, each pupil had to produce a write-up or a PowerPoint explaining the background of their collection or interest choice, then we had to plan a posterboard for visuals and other information to use during our oral presentations.
The diversity of collections and interests was amazing, from Pokémon cards to fragrances to fridge magnets and personal hobbies and achievements; each presentation showcased the variety and talents of our year group. One of the highlights of the day was the sense of community as classmates and teachers wandered from table to table asking questions and sharing their thoughts. Overall, it was an amazing experience that we all learnt from and helped us build better connections with each other.
This year, the 31st edition of the annual Middle School Model United Nations (MSMUN) was held between the 28th of January 2025 and the 31st of January 2025.
We are delighted to share that we had a delegation of 21 pupils who made us proud by performing exceptionally well, demonstrating remarkable skill, dedication, and diplomacy.
Many of them were new to the programme, yet they rose to the challenge, representing Peponi School with distinction.
Leading our delegation, Maia Bateman not only won the Best Delegate award in the Ecology Committee, but also secured one of only three Best Junior Chair awards—outshining 40 competitors in the process.
We are also incredibly proud of Ruhan Dhruv Shah, who won Best Delegate in the Health Committee and delivered a powerful, inspiring speech to the General Assembly on the second day of the conference.
Additionally, we congratulate Veera Shah and Saumya Saini, who earned Best Delegate awards in the Human Rights and Historical Decisions Committees, respectively.
Ammar Jivanji distinguished himself by winning the Best Resolution award for his well-researched and impactful proposal on providing electricity to Turkana County. In the field of conference photography, our pupils also shone: Rohini Shah was awarded Best Photographer, while Diego Nielson Fernandez earned an Honourable Mention in the same category.
These achievements reflect our pupils' refined research skills, ability to collaborate, outstanding debating and analysis skills.

This year, a team of 18 delegates and officers proudly represented Peponi School at the 43rd annual East African Model United Nations (EAMUN) conference, held from 4th to 7th February 2025. With over 1,500 participants, our pupils stood out, earning multiple awards - a testament to their dedication, rigorous training, and exceptional problem - solving abilities. In preparation for the conference, our delegates engaged in weeks of intense training, crafting high-quality resolutions that addressed real-world crises in politics, economics, environmental sustainability, and human rights. Their efforts reflected the theme of this year’s conference: “Local Roots, Global Reach.”
Our officers demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment throughout the conference. Junior Chairs Yuv Galaiya and Amani Munene upheld Peponi’s tradition of excellence, while Thandi Rwego and Aanya K Shah served with distinction as Securitaries.
A special mention goes to Wayua Kagucia, who served as a Senior Chair. Her dedication to training Junior Chairs and chairing sessions at both the MSMUN and EAMUN conferences was instrumental in their success. She also played a key role in coordinating with the Secretariat, ensuring the smooth running of the event.
We also celebrate Aarav Patel, who completed his tenure as Secretary-General of the EAMUN Secretariat. His leadership was pivotal in organising the conference, managing training sessions, and spearheading charity initiatives. Aarav embodies the Peponi Honour Code, demonstrating exceptional dedication, commitment, and resilience.
We wish both Wayua and Aarav the very best in their future endeavors.
As the conference concluded, Peponi pupils earned well-deserved recognition:
◦ Rian Shah: Best Resolution & Best Delegate (Economics Committee)
◦ Shayan Dewany: Best Delegate & Best Speaker (Historical Decisions Committee)
◦ Dorcas Kiundi: Best Speaker (Political Committee)
◦ Rohin Sharma: Best Delegate (Mendosa Charity Committee) for his resolution supporting a local school
◦ Baraka Kahugu: Best Delegate (Human Rights Committee)
◦ Hamzah Mohsen: Best Speaker (Economics Committee)
Additionally, all our resolutions passed successfully:
◦ Mukiri Mugambi proposed a resolution combating deforestation in Bolivia, strengthened by a strategic amendment.
◦ Rian Shah's resolution on preparing Kenya’s agriculture sector for EU Deforestation Regulation compliance received overwhelming support.
◦ Baraka Kahugu championed a resolution addressing sexual and gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, ensuring its passage in the Human Rights Committee.
Peponi School’s delegates and officers have once again demonstrated their intellect, leadership, and dedication. We congratulate them all for their hard work and for making this year’s conference a resounding endeavours!

On 27th February 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting Year 7 pupils from The Banda School for a SMART Day at Peponi School. This event provided pupils with a unique opportunity to experience our diverse learning environment while engaging in a variety of fun and educational activities across Science, Mathematics, Art, Recreation, and Team Building.
The day was filled with excitement and curiosity. Pupils participated in thrilling Science experiments on friction and static electricity, which proved to be a literal 'hair-raising experience.' They also explored different types of cells, sparking their interest in the microscopic world.
Mathematics sessions were equally engaging, as pupils discovered fun and innovative ways to tackle mathematical problems and completed various online worksheets, seamlessly integrating technology into their learning process.
"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." - Thomas Merton. This quote came to life during the Art sessions, where pupils showcased their
creativity in our calming Art rooms. The vibrant display of colors and creativity was a testament to their artistic talents.
The Recreation and Team Building activities were a highlight of the day. Pupils experienced the different sports offered in our school, ranging from fitness and gym, tennis, and basketball. They also enjoyed a one-of-a-kind experience at Northlands Ranch, participating in activities such as archery, mountain biking, and navigating an assault course. These activities not only provided fun but also fostered teamwork and resilience.
To conclude the day, we hosted a reception for the parents, where they met members of the Peponi Common Room and to learn more about the enriching experiences their children had throughout the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the school community and share the joy of learning.
Overall, the Banda School SMART Day at Peponi School was a resounding success, leaving pupils with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for learning.

As is often the case, Hilary term has been a remarkably busy musical term with a variety of concerts and events both within and beyond the school.
On Tuesday 11th February, the school assembled for the annual Inter-House music competition. In total, we were treated to twenty-four performances across the Houses featuring more than half the school. Ultimately, a winner had to be chosen, and Chala emerged victorious, I believe, for the first time ever! Congratulations to all performers, especially the following who were deemed the best in each category:
◦ Best Junior Instrumental Solo - Yasmin Mugambi (Flute)
◦ Best Junior Vocal Solo - Niam Dhanani
◦ Best Senior Instrumental Solo - Reeyan Gosrani (Alto Saxophone)
◦ Best Senior Vocal Solo - Baraka Wakaba
◦ Best Instrumental Ensemble - Chala
◦ Best House Choir - Elementaita & Jipe
A few days later, a team of our musicians competed in the preliminaries of the Young Musician’s Competition, held at Kenton College. This year, there were almost one hundred entries across the various categories. Peponi School had eight entries, and we were delighted that six of them successfully made it through to their respective Finals. This matched our best performance in almost twenty years! Our competitors were as follows:
Intermediate Solo:
◦ Yasmin Mugambi (Flute) = 2nd position
◦ Nathan Karauri (Piano) = 3rd position (also being the first ever competitor to perform one of their own compositions)
◦ Gichora Maina (Classical Guitar) - Finalist
◦ Arhan Shah (Piano) - Finalist
◦ Amani Mwangi (Cello)
◦ Dhyan Khimasia (Violin)
Senior Solo:
◦ Ruchi Raja (Piano) = Joint 3rd position
Open Ensemble:
◦ Peponi School String Quartet - Finalist (Baraka Kahugu, Anaya Bid, Amanda Manduku & Amani Mwangi)
Now in its third year, the Peponi School Concert Festival, albeit smaller in scale than last year due to the busy nature of school
calendars, took place on Tuesday 11th March. This featured around 150 pupils and staff from ISK, Three Rivers Nanyuki and Peponi School. The ethos of this event is very much about the opportunity to perform to a new audience and to listen to performances from other schools. Congratulations to the School Choir, String Ensemble and School Orchestra for their performances on the day.
Afterwards, there was a very illuminating and beneficial plenary about the different structures there are in the three schools for Music ensembles and rehearsal times. Finally, all ensembles were awarded Certificates of Participation by the judges, Mrs. Corrine Laight and Mrs. Jenny Wafula.
We continue to offer performance opportunities throughout the term, including the Chapel services as well as the Tea-time concerts. I am thrilled that the latter consistently feature debut performances from pupils across the school.
Finally, this term, we had our Hilary concert on Wednesday 19th March. This featured performances from all our School Ensembles (Orchestra, Combined Choir, String Ensemble & Brass Ensemble) as well as debut performances from Saveer Bij (Drumkit) and Melissa Muthama (Voice). We heard delightful solos from our Shell pupils, including Niam Dhanani (Voice), accompanied by the String Ensemble, Arhan Shah (Piano) and Yasmin Mugambi (Flute).
We were also treated to original compositions from Jerome Liberty (our Music intern from Kabarak University) and Yara Mballa (voice & guitar). Finally, congratulations to our two bands in the concert, the Upper 5th band (featuring Raahi Shah, Saneeka Haria, Dhyan Khimasia & Mukiri Mugambi) and the Upper 6th band (featuring Odelia Chakwera, Lily Li & Blessing Githinji, along with vocals from Tamara Ali & Grace Muema).

Through collaboration, dedication, and proactive fundraising, the Committee successfully raised over KES 1.3 million.
The Peponi School Charity Committee had a busy and impactful term, with a variety of fundraising activities successfully organised and led by the Charity Ministry. These included bake sales and mufti days, through which over KES 170,000 was raised. Of this, KES 100,000 was donated to PADMAD to support the purchase of re-usable sanitary pads for girls in rural areas. The remaining KES 70,000 was used to provide sports kits for Mwiki Secondary School, whose hockey team will be competing in the Kenya national championships at the end of this term.
The highlight of the term was the Charity Walk and Fair. The walk
aimed to raise funds specifically for the provision of re-usable sanitary pads to girls who may not have access to such basic yet essential items. In addition, the event sought to support our Lower Six pupils in their upcoming community service initiatives next term.
Through collaboration, dedication, and proactive fundraising, the Committee successfully raised over KES 1.3 million.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire Peponi School community for their generous support of the Charity Committee’s efforts.

One of the most exciting and challenging activities at Peponi School is the World Scholars Cup. Pupils who sign up for this event not only experience a lot of fun but also invest significant effort as they prepare for the various conferences. Teams begin their training in September, participate in the regional conference in February, attend the Global Round in July, and finish the season with the prestigious Tournament of Champions at Yale University in November. The team that recently traveled to Sweden expressed great appreciation for both the hard work involved and the diverse range of activities.
This year, the World Scholars theme is "Reigniting the Future," which explores how technology, science, music, history, and literature can be used to make our future brighter. The regional conference was a resounding success, with all teams qualifying for the Global Round, set to take place in Slovenia starting July 9th. Despite fierce competition, our scholars excelled, particularly in team debates and collaborative writing.
The World Scholars Cup is a programme that participants prepare for academic challenges, hone their debating skills, and work collaboratively.

This term, we proudly launched our new Wellness Centre — a peaceful sanctuary where pupils can unwind and recharge amidst the demands of School life. The Centre offers a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, thoughtfully designed to meet a variety of needs. Inside, calming colours, comfortable seating, and gentle lighting create the perfect setting for relaxation, mindfulness, or quiet reading. Outdoors, the natural surroundings provide a refreshing space for reflection and socialising.
The Wellness Centre has quickly become a popular spot for pupils to take a break from their busy schedules, helping them to manage stress and restore their energy. It has fostered a strong sense of community, offering a safe and supportive environment where pupils can connect, express themselves, and look out for one another.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many pupils sharing that the Centre has helped them feel more relaxed, focused, and better prepared to tackle their studies. As we continue to see its positive effect on their wellbeing, we are proud to provide this valuable resource in support of our pupils’ mental and emotional health.

The 220 different opportunities to represent the school this term saw over 900 appearances from over 200 pupils in their individual and collective endeavours to compete and do themselves, their peers, the School and their personal brand proud.
We close the term and consequently, our experience of the second year of the return of the KAISSO Leagues as well as the introduction of the KAISSO U17 Cup competitions. Whilst these have been great
opportunities to aspire for, they have offered even greater value in providing the means to our Peponi Sport purpose; the opportunity to have a great game, achieve progress, foster a competitive spirit, stretch our positive attitudes, enjoy the magic moments and reflect on life’s lessons.
This term has been nothing short of a rollercoaster on many fronts, and we hope that you enjoy what our team captains had to say about their experiences!
This year’s U14 girls’ hockey tournament was unforgettable, filled with tears, laughter, and valuable lessons for everyone. The team started strong, topping the group stages with three impressive wins: 1-0 against Oshwal, 3-0 against St. Austin’s, and 4-0 against RVA. In each 12-minute game, we displayed our strengths and learned how to secure early victories. Yasmin, Siphie, and Dyvah were key goal scorers, supported by their teammates.
Our next challenge was BGE, who had placed second in their pool. We started off rocky, conceding a goal in the first half. Despite a strong comeback in the second half, a goal from our captain was disallowed due to a controversial officiating call. Though disappointing, we learned not to dwell on such setbacks and continued to support each other. Ultimately, we finished the tournament in third place and the occasion brought us all closer as a team and we know that we will take some valuable life lessons forward into our next games.

The U15 girls’ hockey team played a tough but exciting match against Crawford, securing a well-deserved 2-0 victory.
From the start, both teams showed great intensity, with Crawford putting up a strong fight and applying pressure on our defense. However, the Peponi girls displayed great skill and determination, and despite Crawford’s solid defense, they managed to break through and secure a 1-0 lead on a momentum that was turned on its heels.
In the second half, Crawford fought back hard, but the girls remained calm and focused on the task. Our defense held firm, and our goalkeeper, Maia Bateman made some amazing saves to help keep us in the lead. The team continued to push forward, and with just a few minutes remaining, they scored a phenomenal goal that would send the girls on a convincing path to victory.
The 2-0 result was a fair showcase of our collective resilience and teamwork as we fought hard for every moment of the match. Well-done to everyone who participated and contributed to the outcome match.

The team faced a rocky start in the group stage, drawing all of our matches and leaving us with very little margin for error. Despite this, we managed to scrape through to the semi-finals, where we met a tough opponent in RVA after drawing against them in the pool stage.
We hit the ground running, scoring two very quick early goals in the first five minutes, ultimately keeping the pressure firmly mounted on RVA as early as possible which worked to secure us a 2-0 win and a convincing spot in the finals. There, we faced an even tougher challenge in BGR.
The match was a brutal, back-and-forth affair, ending in a draw, and the tension amounted even higher as we faced the dreaded shoot-outs. But, some extraordinary composure under pressure from Dorcas in goal saw us triumph through not conceding a single goal! The victory was hard-earned, and testament to the team's resilience and determination, where we went from shaky beginnings to champions, in a great story to end our season with the KAISSO title!

On Saturday the 1st of February, the boys' first team took to the field with a vengeance as they lined up the trophy of the annual Peponi 8-a-side tournament. After convincingly topping the group stages, the boys showcased outstanding individual performances including strong defensive organisation and an attacking flair that ensured a straightforward and purpose-driven path to the knockouts.
Both the semi-final and final were intense, where neither match produced a clear winner within regular time as both would be decided by penalty shootouts. As Captain, I am proud of the remarkable – and somewhat uncharacteristic – level of composure under pressure!
Harsh Choudhery was the standout performer from the tournament, making crucial saves in both shootouts to help secure victory. His heroics in goal earned him the Best Keeper of the Tournament award, while the team’s resilience and teamwork ensured a well-deserved tournament triumph, ending with the gold medals firmly in-hand for the first time in three years.
Over the Hilary term, the Peponi swimming team has taken part in a total of four meets, consisting of the inter-school galas at Oshwal and Rosslyn Academy, as well the Kenya Swimming Federation NCAA Level 2 gala at Kiota School, and the Level 3 gala, proudly held hosted here at Peponi over the half-term break.
Across all galas, the collective team had put in a spirited fight and, in a brilliant display of grit, of all the swimmers who participated, all had asserted their rightful place on the podium at point or another.
For a comparatively small team, the sports department and the wider swimming team are very proud of the success of the juniors and often look to them for inspiring performance amongst other groups – we should be sure that we can learn a lot from one of the toughest endurance sports out there.
In a must-win hockey match against Woodcreek, the boys’ U15As needed at least 7 goals to bolster the points difference to a point where we could qualify for the KAISSO League Finals on Saturday 8th March. If not, the boys would be knocked out of the League on goal difference to Crawford School –which, of course, would not go down well!
However, the boys really rallied together and delivered a dominant 9-0 victory, controlling the game from start to finish with incessant attacking pressure and a robust defense, ultimately, preventing Woodcreek from entering our half for majority of the game. The forwards were relentless, with Kahir, Teshan and Shashwat having outstanding individual performances. As a result, the team’s all-around performance secured us a place in the KAISSO League Final.

In an exciting rush, the U14 boys’ basketball team triumphed in the ISK U14 tournament and secured a well-deserved victory. The games were nail-biters from start to finish, where both teams reluctantly traded leads throughout the entirety of the tournament.
However, our defence was relentless, where key players Faisal and Kristian stepped up where it mattered most. Even though we had an outstanding performance across the tournament, there are still key things we could improve on such as our confidence and structure in defense as a collective team.
I’d like to especially mentioned a standout performance from our point guard, Jason, who amassed the most points throughout the tournament from any team. But, it was certainly the team's unity, hard work and determination that earned us the trophy, marking a memorable victory in the tournament. As the representative captain, I would like to thank the whole team for their efforts – Jonathan, Daniel, Jason, Tyler, Christian, Faisal, Mofe, Paul R and Pedro.
Our semi-final started with RVA as the result of an unlucky draw from a hat as RVA had shown us no mercy in previous matches, but the team weren't ready to let it happen this time. The girls fought harder than they'd ever fought before for all the moments we had in their box. As the first girls' team to make it into the KAISSO League Finals, we were prepared to put our best foot forward.
From amazing saves from our brilliant goalkeeper, Jasmine, to mighty clears and tackles from Brianna, the team showcased their best performance yet. Unfortunately, though, fate wouldn’t be on our side on this occasion, as we finished the game at a deficit of 3 goals to our nil. Even though, our semi-final performance didn't demoralise the team as we would need to muster a performance for the 3rd and 4th playoff match against Brookhouse Karen. We didn’t manage to cross the goal line on this occasion, and we ended the day – and the season – in 4th position in the League.
The team would like to thank Coach Kenfrey for all his support over the last two years. Without him, we wouldn’t have been able to see the progress we have over the in being able to reach the KAISSO Finals.
In the past 2 weekends, Peponi School hosted a new revision of our annual open tennis tournament. During the first weekend on 8th March, over 30 different players competed in the group stages in a bid to reach the second weekend of knockout matches.
After several tough matches, most of our home teams made it past the group stages where there wasn’t a single category that missed a Peponi representative and, on the second weekend, we had players participating in the finals of every event.
The players of the tournament were Akira and Michelle, considering they each played in two different events and managed to reach the finals in both! As the Captain, I am very proud of their efforts towards retaining the title convincingly for the fourth year in a row!

Shashwat Harish represented as a junior special invitation to compete in the Magical Kenya Open as part of the European Tour over the half-term break. For Shashwat, the event was an experience that really demanded a push in his mindset to the world class level and gave just a little peek behind the curtain of mystique of what it takes to be successful at the highest levels.
A key personal reflection is that the pros seem to have such a consistent and immaculate long game whereas my strengths at the moment are more in the short game. However, Shashwat is confident in his ability to visualise performance at that level and must now realise his strengths and address his weaknesses as he continues to admirably work towards a professional career in golf!
Peponi School cricket has always boatsed a presence in the National cricket programme, and this year was no exception with two of its own, Shlok Saini and Prinay Galayia, who received national team call-ups after impressing in the trials at Nairobi Gymkhana over the course of the last term.
A total of 25 invitational players were vying for 14 tickets on the plane, and both Shlok and Prinay showcased a determination to secure their places to represent Kenya in the Africa U19 qualifiers in Lagos, Nigeria. The competition will be fierce, with Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, and Kenya all endeavouring for the top honours to qualify for the next World Cup in Namibia.
Prinay, a front-line batter, was consistent with the bat during the trials, especially after his strong performance in the three games against Kenya ‘A’. Shlok, a batting all-rounder who plays as a finisher, excelled with his powerful strikes and cameos. We wish them both the best of luck!

A team of 18 players from Peponi School embarked on a hockey tour to Cape Town over the course of the February half-term. Preparations had been underway since the start of the year, with weekly training sessions on the artificial turf at Simba Union to enhance our skills and gameplay.
The tour featured five matches against South African high school teams. The team started strong with a 2-0 victory over De Kuilen High School. However, they suffered a heavy 9-0 defeat against Stellenberg High School, who are among the top 5 teams within the country. Despite this setback, the players regrouped and secured a 2-0 win against Milnerton High School. A tightly contested
4th game against Durban Vile High School ended in a 1-1 draw after missed chances. The final match against Bellville High School was a thrilling 3-1 victory, with standout performances from several players.
Beyond hockey, the tour provided valuable lessons in adaptability, teamwork, and resilience. The players gained exposure to a new playing environment and bonded both on and off the field. The team expressed gratitude to their coaches, staff, and Peponi School for making the trip possible, as we are confident that this experience will propel them to greater heights in the sport.

Boarding weekend activities provide our pupils with a safe and engaging environment where they can develop life skills, build relationships and enjoy recreational activities. They are a vital component in fostering holistic development of our pupils. Our boarders have enjoyed a variety of activities this term. A group of Shell and Fifth Form pupils went to Panari Hotel for ice skating. Those who took part in this activity thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pleasing to see new entrants engage in ice skating. Weekend baking activity was enjoyable and entertaining, as it allowed the boarders to interact with each other, regardless of peer groups, fostering a sense of community. Some pupils described it as a breath of fresh air, reminding them of home and all the cherished experiences they associate with baking. It was practical and enhanced
inclusivity, leading to great results. It provided an opportunity to hang out with friends and gain new learning experiences for some of the pupils who had never baked before. Pupils baked and devoured a variety of goodies including brownies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and cupcakes. Junior pupils in Shell and Fifth Form enjoyed their time in Sagana for an overnight boarder’s trip. The rest of the senior boarders engaged in shopping and Go-karting at Two Rivers. For the last weekend of Hilary term video game activities were a big hit. All senior boys gathered in the senior common room to use the PS5 - very popular and did well to bring a lot of the boys together. They didn’t want it to end. Girls sat in their kitchen common areas for the same. Meanwhile junior girls and boys showcased their expertise in roller-skating and Jasmine Babirye (Shell) was rated the best for the day.

I had always wanted to take a gap year to explore opportunities that might not come again. In my final year of school, I applied for a role at a racket sport club in Chicago, which I was fortunate enough to get. I would be there from October to Christmas. Knowing I was committed to a gap year, I began looking for something to do in the new year. When the gap student role at Peponi came up, it felt like the perfect fit. I’ve loved experiencing a new culture and working so closely alongside the Kenyan people in a number of different environments. I’ll cherish working at the local schools and I’m thoroughly looking forward to my final month in Kenya travelling around the country after the term ends. Both experiences have been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to return to university as a more experienced and well-rounded individual.Thank you Peponi and Kenya!
After months of dedication, creativity, and hard work, Bright. Young. Things. took to the stage on the 24th and 26th of March 2025, delivering two unforgettable performances. The production was a triumph, showcasing the remarkable talent and commitment of our pupils.
We were delighted to welcome Year 7 and 8 pupils from Peponi House, along with parents and friends, who filled the audience with enthusiasm and support. Their presence added to the electric atmosphere, making both nights even more special.
From the very first scene, the cast captivated audiences with their dynamic performances, bringing each character to life with depth and charisma. The energy, chemistry, and storytelling were truly outstanding, drawing laughter, emotion, and admiration from all who attended.
A huge congratulations to our cast and crew for their dedication and passion throughout this journey. Your teamwork, resilience, and talent made Bright. Young. Things. a production to remember. Thank you to everyone who supported us on stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience.
