Making a positive impact on communities and people in the Greater Los Angeles area, across the United States, and globally

Step Forward Day is a 30-year annual tradition that connects students, faculty, staff, and alumni around the world to service opportunities within their communities.

A Well-Rounded Start

As a private Christian liberal arts university, Pepperdine is at the forefront of holistically developing the next generation of leaders through rigorous curricula, faculty mentorship, tailored research opportunities, and timely lectureship series.

The liberal arts curriculum at Pepperdine serves as the foundation upon which you can explore, debate, and address life’s deepest questions and the world’s greatest challenges. The outcome is a transformational educational experience that allows you to explore your passions, enrich your life through new academic encounters, and graduate with fundamental knowledge to draw upon throughout your life.

Semester-long general education courses sharpen critical thinking, improve information literacy, and build a learning community. First-year students are given their choice of intellectually engaging seminars and colloquia unique to Pepperdine.

Great Books Colloquium

From the ancient Greeks to today's most renowned thinkers, the Great Books Colloquium will enable you to read and discuss some of the most influential, thought-provoking, and enjoyable literary works ever written.

Foundations of Reasoning

Foundations of Reasoning is designed to strengthen students’ reasoning skills and advance their capacity to think clearly and deeply about important issues, such as truth, goodness, justice, and meaning. Together, students and professors uncover and sharpen vital intellectual tools and then apply those tools to big ideas and to specific real-world situations.

Social Action and Justice Colloquium

The Social Action and Justice Colloquium focuses on issues of social justice, including human rights, poverty, the interplay of religion and culture, and the role of media in shaping social movements.

Religion and Philosophy BOBBY MAGALLAN

With an emphasis on academic rigor and a spirit of genuine inquiry, the Religion and Philosophy Division’s mission is to lead you into a deeper understanding of religion, specifically Christianity, by fully integrating the life of the mind with the life of the spirit. On the one hand, the division focuses on biblical studies, Christian history, and systematic theology; and on the other hand, it explores matters of human knowledge and experience, morality and ethics, and reasoning. To those ends, the division offers courses that will introduce you to the study of religion and philosophy within a variety of cultures, both ancient and modern.

In addition to general education courses designed to familiarize you with the Old and New Testaments and the dynamics of Christianity’s interaction with contemporary culture, you can also pursue major or minor degrees in the Religion and Philosophy Division to prepare for ministry or graduate study.

Nursing

The School of Nursing, dedicated to the highest standards of academic excellence, clinical preparation, and Christian values, aims to develop students into skilled and compassionate registered nurses who lead lives of purpose, service, and leadership within health systems and communities locally and worldwide. Pepperdine will achieve this by o ering an innovative curriculum delivered by world-class faculty, newly developed and state-of-the-art clinical education facilities, and providing dynamic experiential learning opportunities through preceptorships at leading hospitals and medical facilities in both Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Nursing students on the four-year pathway will spend their first two years completing general education and core natural and social sciences courses at Pepperdine’s Malibu campus before transitioning to the Calabasas campus for didactic and laboratory nursing classes as well as clinical preceptorships. Students on the two-year pathway, a er completing all required courses at another college or university, will enroll at the Calabasas campus to complete a curriculum focused primarily on nursing courses and experiential learning. At graduation, all students will be prepared to succeed on the NCLEX-RN exam to become registered nurses.

Pepperdine’s bachelor of science program is pending licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and approval by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). BRN and WSCUC approvals are targeted for the spring of 2025. Regular updates on both accreditation processes will be provided on the nursing program website.
