TOP 5 THINGS YOU
SHOULDN’ T FORGET TO DO ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
By Susan Southerland
So much time and effort goes into planning a wedding. Sometimes couples get so caught up in their plans that they forget some important things on the big day. We’re here to share with you the top five things you absolutely shouldn’t forget to do on your wedding day. 41
1. STAY HYDRATED
Whether or not you’re planning on drinking alcohol at your wedding, it’s so important to drink water throughout the day. Dehydration (especially when combined with stress) can lead to heart palpitations, headaches, shaking, and lightheadedness. The last thing you want to do is faint on your wedding day because you didn’t remember to drink some water!
2. EAT THE FOOD YOU’RE PAYING FOR
Many times, couples miss their cocktail hours due to picture taking. They then enter the reception, have their first dance, and begin mingling with guests. It’s important to remember to eat some of the food you’re paying for. Ask your wedding planner (or a relative) to bring you a few food selections during photos, and make sure you partake of the meal at your reception.
3. TOUCH UP YOUR MAKEUP
Brides, you’ll be photographed the entire day. Make sure you have touchup makeup (at least lipstick) handy any time you need it. You’ll be thankful when you get those photos back…especially the un-retouched family pics!
4. BRING A CHANGE OF SHOES
Unless you’re wearing flip-flops or sneakers down the aisle, the odds are your shoes h will ill bbe causing i your ffeet to ache by the time you reach the reception. Bring a pair of comfortable shoes to change into so you can dance the night away in comfort.
42
5. TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO SOAK IT ALL IN
The single-most common thing we hear from newlyweds is that their wedding day went by in a flash. Don’t forget to take a few minutes to take a deep breath, relax, and take it all in. That way, the memories will really stick with you for years to come.
These may not seem like critical things to remember on your wedding day, but trust us… they are!
43
44
Although everyone wants to have a perfect wedding day, there’s no getting around the fact that things often come up that we don’t expect. The trick is not to panic when these wedding day emergencies happen. Be prepared to handle these typical emergencies that could come up on your big day by following these tips:
45
46
A spill on your wedding gown. We encourage brides to forgo foods and drinks that might stain their gowns, but sometimes spills happen outside of the bride’s control. Have a stick of fabric chalk available in your gown’s color. That way, you can blot (never rub) the stain to remove it as much as possible and then cover it up with chalk for the rest of the event. You’ll then want the stain treated by a professional dry cleaner after the wedding.
47
48
Uncooperative children. We love kids, but you never know what might happen when they’re standing up in your wedding. If you have a rambunctious ring bearer, don’t let him carry the actual rings…give him replicas. If your flower girl doesn’t want to walk down the aisle, see if she’ll walk with one of the adults in the wedding party, or just let her sit with her parents and forgo the flower petals. It’ll still be a beautiful ceremony!
49
50
Gasp a pimple! How dare a zit interfere with your glorious moment? If you ďŹ nd the pimple too close to your ceremony to have a dermatologist treat it, try covering it with mint toothpaste or yogurt for a couple of hours to help reduce the swelling and redness. Visine (which is always great to have on-hand) can help, too. After you’ve done what you can, concealer will become your best friend.
51
52
Gown tears. Sometimes wedding gowns tear. A strap might come apart, the waistline might rip due to stepping on the skirt, a button might pop off…it happens. Bring along a small sewing kit with the essentials: thread that matches your gown, needles of various sizes, a thimble, and scissors. In a pinch, safety pins will work, too…and they’re great in the event a zipper malfunctions.
53
54
The inappropriate toast. If alcohol is involved, you run the risk of a best man, maid of honor, or relative standing up and giving an inappropriate wedding speech. If you happen to notice their level of intoxication before the toast, just ask them to refrain from taking the mic. If you don’t catch it until mid-speech, ask a member of the bridal party to cue the DJ to play some music and take the mic from the oender.
55
56
Shoe mishaps. I once had to use a corkscrew to make a bridesmaid’s shoes large enough to comfortably fit her feet. I’ve Super Glued more heels and soles back in place than I can remember. Bring a utility tool (like a Swiss Army Knife) and strong adhesive to address most common shoe emergencies.
57
58
A ruined manicure. Since we use our hands so much, chips and gouges to our nails are always a possibility. Keep your polish color in your wedding day emergency kit so you can touch up your beautiful nails as needed.
59
60
Forgotten formalwear. It’s not uncommon for wedding attendants to forget a part of their ensemble. Socks, ties, vests, cufflinks, jewelry, etc. If a male attendant has forgotten something, call the closest tux or suit shop and ask if they have anything close to what you need. Even if the article of clothing is missing or different, most people won’t notice. Ask your photographer to position the “guilty party” in such a way that the missing article isn’t obvious. These are just some of the most common wedding day emergencies and how to handle them. Stock up your wedding day emergency kit, prep your bridal party in advance for any possible issues, and assure yourself that even if something goes wrong, it’ll still be okay. After all, you’re marrying the love of life…what more do you need?

QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK
BEFORE WRITING YYOUR VOWS by Susan s n Southerland
Writing tiing ng yo your own marriage vows can be really romantic n c - and n equally as daunting. Fear not! I’m here tto o guide g e yyo you th through this process. By answering a questions, you can craft vows that your few ew important im an q qu e guests g uests stts s (and yo your u fu future spouse) will love! 64
65
As you’re beginning the process of writing your own vows, answer these questions: Question 1:
What do you remember most about the first time you met?
Question 2:
What is the one thing you love most about your future spouse? (You can list several qualities you love and then end with the top one.)
Question 3:
How has your life changed since the day you met?
Question 4:
Is there anything in particular your future spouse does that makes you laugh, or picks you up when you’re down?
Question 5:
When did you first know you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him/her?
Question 6:
Is there anything (a hobby or sport, for example) the two of you enjoy that will be a part of your life together? 66
Question 7:
Are there any challenges you’ve faced together? If so, how did you overcome them?
Question 8:
What do you want to achieve together during your marriage?
Question 9:
How can you be the best spouse ever?
Question 10:
What do you promise to do throughout your marriage? (These can be sweet, funny, or - even better - a blend of the two…whatever suits you as a couple!)
Once you’ve answered these questions, you should have a nice flow for your vows: how you met, what first struck you about him/her, the things you’ve learned to love about him/ her since then, what you’ve faced together and how you support each other, what you look forward to in the future, and what you personally vow to your future spouse.
VOILA!
YOU’VE WRITTEN YOUR VOWS.
CONGRATULATIONS!

MEANINGS BEHIND POPULAR
Flowers BY SAMANTHA CROTTY
It’s easy to select a wedding flower based off of what it looks like. But have you ever wondered what your selected flower means? 68
69
70
When I think of flower meanings, I immediately think back to a scene in The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey. As the two characters are walking through a flower market, Mary (Lopez) explains that she and the bride have already selected the base for the arrangements and suggests that Steve (McConaghay) point out anything else that may jump out to him. As they walk he points out a pale pink flower with multiple hanging buds. Mary responds with one of my favorite quotes from that movie: “Interesting. This is called the Bleeding Heart, the official funeral flower of Tibet.” Immediately Steve begins to sarcastically say how he is so good at this and the scene continues. To avoid being in the same boat as Steve, I have done the leg work for you. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular wedding flowers and see their real meanings.
71
The ancient Greeks and Romans associated roses with the goddesses of love, Aphrodite and Venus. Roses have been the longtime symbolism of love. Not to mention, each color has a distinct meaning.
• RED: Signifies enduring passion, the lovers rose. • WHITE: Represents humility and innocence. • YELLOW: Expresses friendship and joy. • PINK: Embodies gratitude, appreciation and admiration. • ORANGE: Means enthusiasm and desire. • WHITE LILAC AND PURPLE: Represent enchantment and love at first sight. 72
Discovered in the 16th Century by Spanish botanists in the sandy hillside of Central America. The dahlia is known to represent inner strength and creativity. When given as a gift, the ower expresses sentiments of dignity and elegance. It is also the symbol of a commitment and bond that is to last forever.
73
Story has it that Paeon, the physician to the Gods, received this flower from Apollo’s Mother on Mount Olympus though there are several variations to this tale. The Peony is known as the flower of riches and honor, and an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.
74
Originally discovered in Japan, Hydrangeas were later named by the Greeks. Debates still remain on the symbolism of the ower. Some suggest that the ower represents vanity and boastfulness, whereas others suggest they represent anything that’s sincerely heartfelt. 75
PERUVIAN: Represents friendship and devotion. WHITE STARGAZER: Expresses sympathy. PINK STARGAZER: SigniďŹ es wealth and prosperity. First discovered in a villa in Crete around 1580 B.C., the lily has long played a role in ancient mythology. Beloved by the Greeks, they believed the lily sprouted from the milk of Hera, the queen of the gods. As a whole, the lily symbolizes humility and devotion. While white lilies symbolize chastity and virtue, other varieties became popular and brought with them additional meanings.
76
Known in ancient Greece as the ower of virility, Greek women believed that by feeding either a large or small orchid tuber to their unborn child’s father, it would produce a certain outcome of gender. The symbolism for the orchid shifted to luxury during the Victorian era, and today this same sense of magniďŹ cence and artful splendor continues, with orchids representing rare and delicate beauty. 77
LATE NIGHT SNACKS TO SURPRISE YOUR
BY SAMANTHA CROTTY
My favorite part of every wedding is when the groom sees his
bride for the first time. Whether it is during a first look or as she walks down the aisle, he is always in awe of her beauty. With that said, my second favorite part is the late night treat.
78
79
Think about it: Dinner happened about two hours ago and you’ve been drinking and dancing since. It only makes sense that a snack get passed around to keep the momentum going (and to eliminate any said hangover from occurring). Whether it is passed to the guests while on the dance floor or as they depart the reception, a late night treat is the way to go. Consider one of these options:
Coffee Bar This is one bar that will keep the party going strong all night long. Whether you have it setup while cake is being passed or as everyone is on the dance floor, this station is sure to please everyone. You can even spruce it up by adding a coffee liquor or sweet topping to the table like sprinkles and marshmallows.
80
Milk and Cookies
Sure they had cake, but wouldn’t it be a sweet touch to have a server pass out a classic? Keep it simple with a chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk. Or consider having a shooter glass ďŹ lled with chocolate milk, rimmed with sprinkles and topped with a snickerdoodle cookie. With cookies and milk, the possibilities are endless.
81
Fried Pies
82
Let’s be honest, anything fried is the way to go. Especially when you’ve been dancing all night. Fried pies are a cute and portable way to go. Depending on the company you select, they may even send one of their own to walk around and pass out the pies – like Dales Fried Pies. If you elect to have a station instead, guests can help themselves as the night progresses. In Atlanta there is The Varsity. I’ve been to a wedding there that featured their famous apple and peach fried pies setup at a station, and it was an amazing treat!
Mini
Meal
We know your wedding guests have already had some kind of meal, whether a plated meal or buffet option. And you are probably thinking how could they be hungry enough for another meal? You’re right. However I am talking about a mini meal. Just a small bite to keep them going. Consider using a small scale version of cheeseburgers, ďŹ sh and chips, grilled cheese or even corndogs.
83
Popcorn This late night snack can bring out your creative side. Why you ask? You can either hire a wedding vendor to come in and setup a popcorn station or you can do-ityourself by creating fun bags preďŹ lled. Simply provide the bags to your venue and ask that their staff set them out at a certain time. 84

For
Written by Kristin Wilson, Founder of Orlando Wedding DJ Company, Our DJ Rocks.
Nearly all clients believe that entertainment is the determining factor in the success of their event. You will always be able to find a “good price,” the more important question should be, what is the value that you will receive? Remember, you only have one chance to do it right. Let me guess, you have never hired a Wedding DJ? We can help! Here are our 5 Tips for how to choose a Wedding DJ. 87
STYLE & PERSONALITY
Your DJ is going to help set the tone of the evening. That means that style and personality do matter. One thing you can do is instead of just getting a quote via email, meet with your DJ to go over your vibe, music styles and needs. You want to ensure that they have the right style and personality not only to match you and your fiancé, but also managing your reception. 88
COMMUNICATION & ARTICULATION
This might come as a surprise, but communication and articulation are extremely important. Once you find the right DJ you want to make sure that they can announce, communicate and articulate. Not only to your guests but also to your other vendors. For example, when it’s time for the cake cutting, it’s the DJ/MC’s responsibility to inform
the photographer and videographer so that they do not miss a moment on camera. It’s also part of our role to make sure the right people are in the room so that they don’t miss those special moments.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
It’s all about conveying energy, emotion and a positive experience. There are many ways a DJ will interact with your guests. From announcing that they join the newlyweds on the dance floor for a special dance to teaching the cupid shuffle. Music conveys love and happiness and your DJ/MC will convey the energy and emotion.
TAKE REQUESTS
Your DJ should be able to adjust to the crowd. From the list of songs and genres that you give her that you like to taking requests, it’s all about knowing when to the play the right song at the right time.
It’s also important to know what the must play songs are and what songs not to play. It will make your wedding day more memorable and personable when the DJ can play songs that you and your guests love to dance to. Remember it’s your wedding day, so be sure to let the DJ know if you do not want them to take requests.
MANAGE/DIRECT THE FLOW OF ACTIVITIES
DJs who understand the flow of activities and flow of music are able to build momentum and keep the evening flowing smoothly. For example, if the bride and groom are an hour late, you now only have 3 hours for your reception. Your DJ should be able to adapt and make changes to the flow of activities so that you and your guests do not feel rushed and still get to enjoy the evening over dinner and have time for dancing! IN A
Written by Brianna, owner and operator of Beauty In A Breeze, www.beautyinabreeze.com 90
Every bride wants to look their best on their wedding day. Whether it’s a small intimate get together, big glamorous affair, or a simple day with family and friends, looking your best is important. To us that means having gorgeous hair and skin. We’ve put together some great tips on how to prep for your special day. 91
SCHEDULE A BRIDAL TRIAL Bridal Trials are a must. The way you look on your wedding day is so important. You don’t want to risk trying a new hairstyle or hairstylist for the first time the day of your wedding. Bridal Trials allow you to decide exactly how you want to look on your wedding day.
92
STICK TO YOUR SKINCARE Routine If you have a skincare routine that works, stick to it. If you don’t have a skin care routine, start one months before your wedding to promote flawless skin for your big day. Drink lots of water, eat clean, start an exercise goal, and don’t skip your weekly masks. Avoid trying new facial treatments close to your wedding day in case of any allergic reactions. Beautiful skin is the canvas for beautiful makeup.
93
CHOOSING THE PERFECT HAIRSTYLE FOR YOU Your hairstyle on your wedding day should compliment you and your dress. Stay true to your style. If you never wear your hair all the way up, you may not like an up do. If you like the messy look, you may not go for the sleek style. If you have thin hair, extensions will make a huge difference whether you’re wearing your hair up or down. Plus adding hair accessories and floral pieces will always complete your bridal hairstyle. 94

BUILDING YOUR - How to have it all at your wedding -
Written by Alexis McNeely, Marketing Lead at Orlando Wedding and Party Rentals www.orlandoweddingandpartyrentals.com 96
We can all agree that Pinterest
has been a ground-breaking tool for wedding planning, but, with so much inspiration being added every day it can be hard to pin (pun intended) point what exactly your rental budget can handle. When starting to build your rental budget consider the details that are most important to you, as the essentials. Consult with your wedding coordinator to help create a strategy to build your rental budget. Figuring out what items are important to you will help in the long run when it comes to getting pricing & requesting quotes from rental companies. A tip from us is to create a wish list once you know your venue and have an idea of how many guests will be at your wedding.
Send that list to your preferred rental company. This allows you to know what your venue has and doesn’t have and knowing your guest count allows the rental company to inform you of any special discounts or packages associated with booking more items. Often times having a wedding planner or using the rental company that is in house at the venue will automatically save you money because they offer exclusive deals for working with their favorite vendor. 97
It’s your wedding and you want it to be magical while still reflecting your style. Mix and match your rental items not only for a personalized design but staying true to what items fit your budget. If you love rustic designs, but, it’s not in your budget for both a French country chair & farm table, consider 98
opting for one and tying in a chair or a table and linen that matches your color scheme and your love for rustic flare. On another note, if you want your entire venue draped but it’s not your #1 priority (maybe you prefer the upgraded chairs and dance floor first over that), try draping just behind
the sweetheart table and finding a speciality table to enhance the look. It’s a win-win! You’ll still have the draping, but it will be more cost effective. By finding the focal point, you can then figure out which parts of the room are most important to you. No matter what type of style you have, you will never go wrong with hiring professionals in your city. The more
you invest your time into finding those that really care, the better the wedding planning process will be. Rentals are just one portion of your checklist, but they make an impact with key elements and quality product. Choose quality over quantity. Search for what others have said about vendors in the area. Listen to your coordinator and venue manager. Your budget will thank you!

One of the moments I was MOST looking forward to at my wedding was getting to spend the time with all of my favorite ladies the morning of my wedding. I had my mom, my mother in law, my step daughters and pretty much all of the important ladies in my life with me that morning. We laughed, we shared stories and we cried a little (BEFORE THE MASCARA ONLY). I made a playlist to of songs while we enjoyed the day and sipped on champagne. 100
Now – I do have to admit that when I make my own personal playlist, I’m ALLL OVERRRR THE PLACE! I could go from old school to hip hop easily. So if you want my advice, just have fun with it! What type of music do you think you’d want to be played the morning of your wedding?

r a g i p l l hy a C FROM OUR EXPERT:
Christine with Carousel Atelier Calligraphy
102
It is not often in life when we get to plan an elegant affair like a wedding. I can only think of two instances when you get to mail out something so important that is requires two envelopes: my high school graduation announcements and my wedding invitations. While you are in the midst of planning your overall wedding vision, it can be easy to overlook the importance of your wedding invitations. Your invitations, along with all of your wedding stationery, are your guests’ introduction to your wedding. It is common to think that calligraphy is only meant for your envelope addresses, but I would like to share with you how the stationery trends are influencing wedding calligraphy throughout your stationery, what to expect when working with a calligrapher, and to share with you some creative calligraphy ideas to inspire your wedding day.
103
Wedding Stationery Trends:
Envelope liners will be joined this year with other luxury touches to your invitations. Wax seals, personalized crests, monograms, and belly band tags are the personalized touches that you can add to your suite to set them apart. Handwritten calligraphy wedding invitations will also be in demand this year. Watercolor will be here for another year, from simple watercolor washes, to beautiful floral details.
You can incorporate this as gold foiling or silver ink, as well as bronze and copper.
104
Working with a Calligrapher:
The timeline that you should begin the contracting process will depend on the capacity upon which you intend to include calligraphy into your wedding. If you are looking for a full wedding invitation design, it is best to reach out to your calligrapher at least 8-12 month ahead of your wedding date. It can take about seven months to go through the contract phase, design your suite, and handwrite out all your invitations. For envelope addressing, I would suggest having a contract in place with your calligrapher right after you order your initiations. Like all great vendors, the best calligraphers can be booked out and you don’t want to miss out (or delay mailing your invitations) in order to get the look you desire. Adding your calligrapher to your vendor team early also means that you can receive guidance and direction on the style and the paper thickness of your envelopes.
105
Once your invitations are sent off through the USPS, your work is not over yet! Now is the time to start looking forward to your wedding day stationery. If you will be including calligraphy into your ceremony, it works in your favor to begin working on those pieces when you are still a few months out. Items like custom calligraphy backdrops and calligraphy signs can take up to a month to create. By now, you might have already made the decision as to the type of reception you will be hosting, so you can focus on your guests’ experience with your reception. Their experience begins during the cocktail hour. It is when they will seek out their seat during dinner (or brunch). Items like name cards, escort cards, and seating charts can take about two weeks to complete. If you have been working with a calligrapher throughout your wedding planning journey, she may have already advised you to request your RSVP cards more than two weeks ahead of your wedding date. This is a great idea because that extra week gives you time to follow up with any missing replies and you can get your final numbers to your calligrapher, caterer, baker, etc.
106
Creative Ideas for Calligraphy:
One of the amazing things about calligraphy, is that the sky is truly the limit on where you can apply it. Unlike traditional printing, calligraphy can be incorporated in ways that fit with your personalities. Here are just a few creative ideas to get you started, but by no means is this exhaustive. Spot Calligraphy: Spot calligraphy is the best of both the calligraphy and digital worlds. You can get your invitations designed and printed, but leave off your names and another detail (like the venue name or the city of your ceremony). Then your calligrapher can hand write those details in so your guests will still be receiving beautiful works of art. Bridal Shower or Bachelorette Invitations: Since your bridal shower and bachelorette parties will be smaller affairs, this is a great way to incorporate calligraphy. Impress your girls with fancy invitations that work perfectly for high tea showers all the way to a night-on-thetown girls’ celebration.
107
Return Address Stamps & Wax Seals: Many calligraphers can custom design your return address in calligraphy and get it made into a return address stamp. You can also commission for your wedding monogram to be made into a wax seal using custom calligraphy. Day-Of Calligraphy: Why settle for just paper? Incorporate your escort cards (which let your guests know which table they are seated at) and name cards (letting your guests know where they are seated at the table) into your table-scapes. These can be on just about anything. I have created escort cards from live magnolia leaves and name cards on agate slices. Or if the escort and name cards are not your style, you can work with a calligrapher to create a seating chart – these can be as simple as a framed parchment, or dressed all the way up as a mirror. Thank You Cards: Thank you cards are a must for the classy bride that you are. Showing your appreciation to your friends and family in a beautiful card with “Thank You” in calligraphy on the front is one of my favorite ways to incorporate calligraphy.
108
Or you can use thank you cards as your escort cards. This takes a little bit of planning ahead of time, but you can incorporate calligraphy on the envelopes, for their names and table number, and include a sweet note to them inside the cards. Heritage Suite: If you have already sent out your invitations, or they were not the custom suites of your dreams, then a heritage suite can rescue you. A calligrapher can create one full wedding suite (the ones that I create include a beautiful invitation box so you can safely store it for years to come) which you can ask your photographer to use in your wedding photographs. These can also be a great one-year anniversary gift. Vows & Love Letters: These both would be great for a personal inclusion of calligraphy in your wedding day. You can commission for your vows to be written in calligraphy or the sweet love letter that will be delivered to your soon-to-be-spouse on your wedding morning. These also would be beautiful for your photographer to capture and are another great idea for your first anniversary gift. I hope that these tips and ideas help you while you plan your wedding stationery. OUTLINING THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PURCHASING AND RENTING YOUR WEDDING DAY MENSWEAR
116
When planning a wedding, it is only natural to try and find the best deals in town to help you, your wedding party, and your guests save money! So when it comes to menswear, one of the first things couples try to decide on is whether they plan to purchase the ‘looks’ for the guys or rent everything. In the past renting has been the obvious and only answer to the couple wanting to look like a million bucks (while only spending a hundred or two). However, the new generation of money-savvy brides and grooms are starting to question this system and many are turning towards purchasing their menswear for the big day. While there’s nothing wrong with either option, there are many differences between renting versus purchasing, regardless of the formalwear company you select. So before making that decision, it’s important you know the general differences between purchasing and renting.
117
Pricing Generally speaking, the price range of rentals is much less than the retail options available. That being said, you can find a very reasonably priced retail suit that comes close to the price of a rental - you just have to be aware of what’s included with both options.
Sizing Typically, rental styles have a much greater size range than retail lines, so if your bridal party includes men of all sizes it’s important to consider the suit line you’re selecting before purchasing them. The last thing you want is to have half the guys in one style and the other half in a different style because the sizing from the original suit line was so limited. 118
What's the difference? Curious as to what traits define the two? Check out the differences below!
SUIT
• No satin on the lapel • Uncovered buttons • No satin stripe on the pants • Can come with a matching vest • Can also be worn with suspenders
TUX
• Satin on the lapel (can be a trim or full satin)
• Satin covered buttons • Satin stripe or bead on the pants • Can be worn with a vest, cummerbund or suspenders
119
Pieces
Like we mentioned with the price differences, a rental typically includes everything but the socks and underwear! From the coat, pants, and shirt to the button studs, cuff links, shoes, and accessories, the rental price includes it all. Retail suits normally come either with a coat and pants or with a coat, pants, and matching vest.
Timeline With most independent formalwear specialists, the majority of the rental inventory is in stock and ready to go. So renting a last minute tux or suit is not a problem. However, because of the alterations involved with a retail tux or suit, there is usually a longer timeline needed to get the order ready in time.
120
As we mentioned before, all the alterations are not included in the price of the retail suit or tux, and most of the time the pants come unhemmed. So at the very least, you’ll have to get the pants hemmed. On the other hand, rental prices include all the alterations - so your pant hem, coat sleeve, and coat button placement will be exactly where it needs to be to make you look your best!
Services
*While the differences pointed out here are pretty typical throughout the formalwear industry, there may be changes among various individual companies. We speak from our experience as Street Tuxedo - a local formalwear company in Middle Tennessee. 121

Ś u ŋo PLANNING
OUTDOOR EVENT
Are you considering an outdoor wedding ceremony and/or wedding reception? Some people assume that outdoor weddings are cheaper and easier. However, outdoor weddings are anything but simple!
Tent Selection
Photo by Images By Daniel Michael
First, select an area that has flat topography, access to electricity & water, and doesn’t flood when it rains for the main tent. Schedule a site visit with a rental company and measure the size and type of tent that your outdoor space can accommodate. Provide a separate prep tent for your caterer as well. All tents that you rent will need lighting.
126
Mother nature can be hot, cold, or just right – but you won’t know for sure until the week of the wedding. Don’t make the mistake of thinking a smaller a/c unit will work just as well as a larger one. The size of the a/c unit you need to reserve is proportionated to the size tent you have rented. Outdoor heaters run on fuel so make sure you have enough to sustain the desired temperature
Photo by Images By Daniel Michael
throughout the event. Add side walls to your tent order if you reserve A/C or heat. Turn on the a/c or heaters early in the day so the area has time to adjust to the cooler or warmer temperature you desire. If you rent a commercial a/c unit you will likely need to rent a generator as well. If there is a nice breeze, you may ďŹ nd that the cross breeze may be
enough to keep your guests cool. Simply remove the sidewalls and let mother nature provide the balance. If you have winds more than 5-10mph, secure table decorations like table numbers, favors and candles. Make sure candles are located deep inside glass so they don’t blow out or start the table numbers on ďŹ re. 127
128
Photo by Images By Daniel Michael
Under The Tent When ordering tables and chairs, keep in mind that you can comfortably seat 8-10 people at a 5’ round and 10-12 people at a 6’ round. If you want to use chiavari chairs, provide a flat surface (like a driveway or rented floor) as the floor. Otherwise chiavari chairs (like ladies’ heels) will sink into the ground. Use folding chairs, which have a wider base, under a tent where the ground is the floor. Don’t set tables until the day of the event – if you place linens the night before they will absorb moisture during the night and will feel damp in the morning. If you plan to have a DJ or band, ask about what their watt and amp needs are in case they need to provide their own generator. You will also need to provide a dance floor for guests. Reserve a 10x10 dance floor area per 100 guests. To avoid any violations, be aware of any noise ordinances that your city has that prohibit loud music after a certain time.
Outside The Tent Have you considered where guests will park their vehicles? You may use a plot of land located near the tent or on a street near your home. If you use your private home’s street, make sure that your neighbors or HOA are aware of your event and the additional cars it will bring to the community.
To make life easier, you can rent a valet service that will take care of parking guest vehicles off site. Bathroom trailers, especially if you have a septic system, may be the most important rental for the wedding day. Guests’ bathroom visits may be too much for a home’s septic system to handle, resulting in the outdoor area becoming flooded with an awful stench. Bathroom trailers have running water and air conditioning so guests can briefly cool off inside as well. Affordable port a pottys with flushing capabilities and running water are also available to rent. (Save the construction style port a potty for the next street fair, it isn’t ideal for a wedding.) Make sure that you provide adequate lighting and
signage so guests know where the restrooms are located. To prevent bugs, put tiki torches with citronella scent around the perimeter of the tent. You can also put citronella candles on the guest tables, or provide a variety of bug repellants, like Off! or Avon Skin So Soft, in a bathroom basket. At the end of the evening, make sure to put all garbage inside a garage or enclosed area. Otherwise, rodents will get into the trash during the night and leave a mess for you to clean up in the morning. Provide transportation, such as an Uber car or passenger van, at the end of the night for guests that may have consumed too many spirits.
