HOST TO ASIA’S BIGGEST GOLF EVENTS
LIV GOLF SINGAPORE
The fifth tournament of the 2023 LIV Golf League season and the biggest golf event ever in Singapore, LIV Golf Singapore presented by Resorts World Sentosa, marked the League’s inaugural visit to Singapore.
Hosted on The Serapong, the event played hosts to some of the world’s best players including five-time Major Champion, Brooks Koepka, 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year, Cameron Smith, and other Major champions including Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, and Sergio Garcia. Won by Talor Gooch and RangeGoats GC, the event provided world-class entertainment and premium guest experiences for fans and players alike.
HSBC WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The HSBC Women’s World Championship is one of the most prestigious events in women’s professional golf on the LPGA Tour. In 2023, the Club hosted the event for the 10th consecutive year, welcoming an elite field of the world’s top female golfers, with Jin Young Ko becoming the first back-to-back winner after her victory in 2022 too.
Played across the magnificent Tanjong Course, the event is often referred to as ‘Asia’s Major’, highlighting Sentosa Golf Club’s overall commitment to excellence and reputation as one of Asia’s best championship venues.

SINGAPORE OPEN
Formerly the Barclays Singapore Open (2005-2012), the SMBC Singapore Open (2016-2022) was a flagship event on the Asian Tour, welcoming the best players from the region to compete across The Serapong’s world-class layout.
THE ASIA-PACIFIC AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP (AAC)
The AAC is among the leading amateur golf tournaments globally, with its champions earning spots in the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship. The event was held at Sentosa Golf Club in 2018 and won by current Asian Tour and DP World Tour professional Takumi Kanaya.
WOMEN’S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP (WAAP)
The Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship (WAAP) is a golf tournament for female amateur golfers from the Asia-Pacific region. Sentosa Golf Club hosted the event in 2018, one of four televised events in the year, which was won by current LPGA Tour professional Atthaya Thitikul.
Sentosa Golf Club has also been selected by The R&A as the venue for Open Championship Qualifying on numerous occasions throughout its history

SENTOSA ISLAND GOLDEN JUBILEE CHARITY GOLF
Sentosa Golf Club hosted the Sentosa Golden Jubilee Charity Golf in August 2022, welcoming several individuals and organisations in support of President’s Challenge and Community Chest. Members took part in the event and helped to raise an incredible $3.9 million. In celebration of the Sentosa Golden Jubilee, the Club also received a donation of 20 yellow train trees from one of its Members, Mr Eddie Loo.
ANG POW
‘Ang Pow’ or red packet, is an age-old Lunar New Year tradition in which members will donate contributions to show their thanks towards the staff at the Club. It is a gesture of appreciation to employees and staff who have rendered excellent service. Each member contributed $50/- each and the total amount raised was equally distributed to all staff.
WINE & DINNER NIGHTS
Providing members with an opportunity to enjoy global wines and diverse cuisines. These events also serve as a platform for members to network. In addition to these, we arrange specialized events, such as Raclette Cheese nights and meat-centric feasts, offering a unique dining experience that goes beyond the usual.
MEMBERS INTRODUCTION NIGHT
An event that is held for new members of the club. The purpose of the event is to give new members a chance to meet the club’s staff, learn about the club’s facilities and services, and network with other members. The evening includes a welcome reception, a buffet dinner, and a presentation by the Club’s President. The presentation covers topics such as the club’s history, its membership policies, and its golfing facilities.

The Serapong is renowned as one of the world’s best golf courses. Opened in 1982 and renovated as recently as 2020 by the Club’s GM, Director of Agronomy, and Resident Golf Course Designer, Andrew Johnston, the course is currently ranked 55th in Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses 2022-23, as well as the #1 golf course in Singapore.
It also holds the title of being ‘Asia’s Best Golf Course’ from the World Golf Awards in 2022, in addition to Singapore’s and Asia-Pacific’s best championship course in the same year.
Measuring over 6,675 metres from the championship tees, The Serapong provides a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers of all levels. Known for its Tournament-Ready 365 conditioning, the course has played host to numerous prestigious tournaments, including the inaugural LIV Golf Singapore presented by Resorts World Sentosa in April 2023, welcoming the world’s best players to take on its incredible layout, featuring pristine fairways, undulating, fast greens, and breath-taking views of Singapore’s skyline.
THE TANJONG
The Tanjong at Sentosa Golf Club is one of Asian golf’s most modern championship layouts. Developed initially by Alister Mackenzie’s protégé Frank Pennink and redesigned in 2016 by the Club’s GM, Director of Agronomy and Resident Golf Course Designer, Andrew Johnston, the course spans an impressive 6,801 metres from the championship tees and provides a contemporary golfing experience.
As host venue to the HSBC Women’s World Championship, The Tanjong offers breathtaking views of the Singapore Strait and challenges golfers with its strategically positioned bunkers, intricate doglegs, and subtly contoured greens. Each hole on The Tanjong presents a unique challenge, crafted to provide an engaging and memorable golfing experience.
In 2023, the course witnessed the first ever back-to-back winner of the HSBC Women’s World Championship when South Korea’s Jin Young Ko successfully defended her title.
SENTOSA ISLAND
Sentosa Golf Club is also based on Sentosa Island, one of Singapore’s premier island resort getaways and Asia’s leading leisure destination.
Once a fishing village and British military base until 1967, the island is now operated by Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), the parent company for the Club, having been established in 1972 to oversee the development, management and promotion of the island as a resort destination for locals and tourists.
Spread across 500+ hectares, the resort island is home to 6,000 residents and boasts an exciting array of themed attractions, award-winning spa retreats and resort accommodation. The island often attracts around 19 million visitors per year.

GOLF OPERATIONS
The Golf Operations department manages the day-to-day activities related to the golf course and plays a critical role in providing a positive golf experience to all the Club’s members and guests. Not only are they responsible for organising golf bookings and tee time reservations daily, but they also look after golf events and tournaments, the management of the golf cart fleet, upkeep and management of the practice area, as well as all golf instruction related matters.
CORPORATE SERVICES
Corporate Services provide the key support functions and services for the effective and efficient running of the Club. It supports the core business of golfing and F&B, maintaining the physical asset of the Club and is responsible for effective communications with SGC Committees and its members. They are also responsible for corporate strategy and planning, administration, sustainability, housekeeping, security, and tenant management.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
The F&B team help to manage all food and beverage operations within the Club. The department plays a crucial role to enhance the overall guest experience at the Club by providing a high-quality and memorable dining experience every day. In addition to managing the dining outlets (Golfers’ Terrace and Members Bar), they also help to maintain services in the halfway houses on the golf courses, all development and planning of the menus, preparation of food and kitchen service, all event catering, and private dining services.

Managed by the Club’s General Manager & Director of Agronomy, Andrew Johnston, and Golf Course Superintendent, Rodney Mckeown, the agronomy team at Sentosa Golf Club are renowned for always generating Tournament Ready 365 conditioning, no matter what day of the year it is.
Made up of 75 trained greenkeepers, it doesn’t matter whether it is a professional event or a monthly medal, both The Tanjong and The Serapong are prepared by the team with the intention of showcasing the best possible conditions.

• Aeration of the soil to enhance drainage and air circulation

Tournament Ready 365 continues to be showcased to a worldwide audience with both courses having hosted several of the world’s most high-profile events including the Singapore Open, HSBC Women’s World Championship, and LIV Golf Singapore. At the HSBC Women’s World Championship in 2023, all the players delivered hand-written notes to the Club, thanking them for all their efforts to deliver worldclass conditions despite the rain that fell during the event.

ADAPTING TO CHANGING TIMES
Following on from the success of #KeepitGreen, Sentosa Golf Club has continued to set the benchmark for sustainability in golf with several historic milestones, including becoming the world’s first golf club to both join the UN Sports for Climate Action Initiative (2020) and achieve carbon neutrality (2023), secured in recent years.
These milestones have helped to elevate the Club’s reputation as one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly facilties, as well as support our latest sustainability campaign, GAME ON; launched at the 2020 SMBC Singapore Open as a call-to-action to unite the global golf industry and its key stakeholders in the fight against climate change.
WORLD’S FIRST CARBON NEUTRAL GOLF CLUB
Sentosa Golf Club became the world’s first carbon neutral golf club in March 2023, officially fulfilling its original commitment made at the 2021 HSBC Women’s World Championship. The Club underwent an extensive carbon profiling process since 2018 to help evaluate its carbon levels, with 5,000 tonnes Co2 offset through the purchase of high-quality carbon credits from Katingan Mentaya Project (Indonesia) and Cordillera Azul National Park (Peru).
TORO COMPANY – CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
In March 2022, the Club formed a 10-year partnership with The Toro Company and local distributor, Jebsen & Jessen. The partnership has seen the introduction of new golf course maintenance equipment to increase sustainability and efficiency across Sentosa Golf Club’s agronomy department. A Centre of Excellence is also planned at the Club to support and educate regional clients and staff on the latest products, technology and developments.
ANDREW JOHNSTON
Andrew Johnston is renowned for being one of the industry’s leading agronomists, with a reputation for changing the quality of golf course maintenance, especially in Asia, using his Tournament-Ready 365 (TR365) programme that he introduced to Sentosa Golf Club. He has always looked to raise the bar beyond others through his leadership and management.
With over 150 projects as a designer, builder, and project manager, Andy has showcased the passion that has continued to drive his career for nearly four decades in golf course management, club operations, and design. Prior to joining Sentosa Golf Club, his r Bates Golf Group and Johnston Design and Agronomy, allowed him to develop a comprehensive masterplan of golfing experience, design strategy, an agronomy programme that could bring a new level of world-class leadership and service to the Club.
As the General Manager, Director of Agronomy, and Resident Golf Course Designer at Sentosa Golf Club, Andy is responsible for overseeing and leading on the following responsibilities:
• Golf Course Maintenance – ensuring the golf courses at the Club are maintained to the highest standards by monitoring all aspects of agronomy
• Course Design and Development – responsible for designing the continued enhancements of the layout and playing strategies of the golf courses to provide world-class playing experiences
• Club Operations – managing overall operations of the Club, including staffing, budgeting, marketing, and customer service to maintain its reputation as one of the world’s best golf clubs
• Strategic Planning – developing long-term strategies to improve the facilities and services offered by the Club

Over the past 15 years, Sentosa Golf Club has been transformed into one of the world’s best golf clubs. This had a direct correlation to Andy’s arrival at the Club, and the leadership and expertise he has shown in his day-to-day responsibilities. Some of his key contributions throughout the years have been:
Course Enhancements – Using his skills as a golf course designer, Andy has implemented strategic enhancements and changes to the courses year on year to make them more challenging and visually appealing. The Serapong is now one of the world’s Top 100 golf courses.
Agronomic Innovations – Implementing cutting-edge agronomic practices to maintain pristine playing conditions throughout the year, ensuring the greens and fairways are in Tournament-Ready conditions daily Membership Experience – Focusing on providing a personalised and world-class experience to members and guests, helping to attract and retain golfers from across the globe
Hosting Prestigious Events – Attracting and successfully hosting some of golf’s and Asia’s biggest tournaments, which have continued to elevate the Club’s global reputation and appeal

NICOLE THEW
The Director of Golf at Sentosa Golf Club, Nicole Thew and her team take care of all golf-related activity from equipment purchases to corporate golf days at the Club. Nicole is an accomplished and devoted member of the team at Sentosa Golf Club, having been at the Club for over 25 years, advancing from the position of Golfing Executive in 1995 to the Director of Golf.
Her quarter-century-long tenure in golf operations and management has endowed her with a wealth of knowledge, enabling her to successfully plan and execute various high-profile and televised tournaments, including the HSBC Women’s World Championship and LIV Golf Singapore where she manages the volunteer programme.
In total, Nicole has now curated and lead the volunteer programme for over 30 televised events throughout her time at Sentosa Golf Club
Her ambition for delivering unparalleled customer service to Club members and guests shines through in her commitment to devising and applying novel strategies aimed at boosting revenue and membership. In her role as the Director of Golf, Nicole steers a team of seasoned professionals and works in harmony with other departments to foster a unified and upbeat club environment.

Sentosa Golf Club is renowned for having one of the best F&B and hospitality services in Singapore. With several outlets available for members and guests to dine in, the Club offers a variety of world-class dishes and cuisines from across the globe.
Led by Executive Chef ‘KK’ Kong Kok Kiang, the team at Sentosa Golf Club are passionate about providing its members and guests with the best possible gastronomy experience. Chef KK has over 30 years’ experience working across a few high-profile hotels, resorts and clubs in Singapore.
His approach has helped to transform the experience at the Club. As a methodical individual, he is always seeking to find new and better ways of maximising guest’s satisfaction and prefers to lead by example, always striving for excellent results together with his team.
As well as running the daily F&B operations at the Club, his leadership style also means that he takes the time to develop teamwork within the kitchen, in addition to finding new resources for his team, as a way of increasing efficiency and better results. He also works in coordination with the Club’s management to organize the costs and procurement of products and materials.

SENTOSA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Government of Singapore. It was established in 1972 to develop and manage Sentosa Island. SDC oversees the development, management, marketing and promotion of Sentosa Island as a resort destination for locals and tourists.
Sentosa Island celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022 and has a long-standing history of giving back to the community. As part of its anniversary, it hosted the Sentosa Golden Jubilee Charity Golf at Sentosa Golf Club to raise funds for the President’s Challenge and Community Chest.
The Island also has a similar agenda towards sustainability as Sentosa Golf Club, having committed to become a fully carbon neutral destination by 2030. In 2022, Sentosa achieved its goal of becoming a certified sustainable destination against the Global Sustainable T (GSTC) standards.
The Sentosa Carbon Neutral Network (SCNN) was also set up to collectively achieve Sentosa’ neutrality by 2030. As one of the founding members of the network, Sentosa Golf Club collaborates with the other members on the island to implement various initiatives, with the collective potential to r emissions by up to 30%, compared to 2019 baselines.
