AGRICULTURE SCAVENGER HUNT THURSDAY JULY 19 TO SUNDAY JULY 22 Kids are invited to do the ‘Agriculture Scavenger Hunt’ at this year’s East Otter Tail County Fair. The program, sponsored by the Minnesota Farm Bureau, provides children ages 5 - 12 years old an opportunity to learn about agriculture as they enjoy the sights and sounds of exhibits and livestock shows. Children participating in the activity will learn about products grown and raised on Minnesota farms and made from Minnesota commodities while viewing displays.
Children can pick up an activity sheet at the fair office. The activity sheet contains agricultural questions. As children tour the fair exhibits, they will find specially placed posters containing the information necessary to complete the 10 question activity sheet. Once completed, the activity sheet should be returned to the starting location. The goal of the projects is to help children gain a better understanding of farming and agriculture and its importance to Minnesota. Submitted activity sheets will be entered for a daily drawing at 5:00 p.m. Winning entries will be notified if not present.

WOOD TURNER- DAN MODROW THURSDAY, JULY 19 & FRIDAY, JULY 20 Hello, I'm Dan Modro. I live on the south side of Sybil Lake, near Vergas, with my wife Amanda. We are surrounded by the best natural resource I could ask for (trees, of course). I started a craft called wood turning about 12 years ago. Wood turning consists of using a wood lathe and hand chisels. As the block of wood rotates on the lathe I take chisels to cut and shape the piece of wood into a work of art. When I started wood turning I began making little trinket bowls. From there it has evolved into making utility items like salad bowls, platters, rolling pins, pepper mills, and saltshakers. I also create more decorative items including natural edge bowls—some of which are from tree burls; hollow vessels; Christmas ornaments; and lately, cremation urns. The best thing I like about being a wood turner is that you can create just about anything. From the fresh wood chips bouncing of your tools to the finished product being displayed in someone's home. In my free time you can find me in the shop surrounded by piles of wood chips, sometimes waist high. If you haven't tried it yet for yourself, I encourage everyone to do so (that is, if you don't mind making a mess).

IN THE BASEBALL FIELD BY THE PARK SHELTER
Officer Mike and K-9 Ike are part of the Perham Police Department and provide a service to our community. Qualified officers are required to complete an official departmentsponsored K-9 law enforcement training program to be K-9 certified. K-9 training programs vary in length, depending on police department or federal agency, but average about several weeks to few months. Some police departments and law enforcement agencies utilize external K-9 training programs to assist in training their service dogs and handling officers. K-9 training programs typically cover narcotics and explosive detection, handler training, search and rescue, public or crowd acclimatization and evidence detection techniques. If you would like to help support our local K-9 Unit please contact the City of Perham Offices at 218-346-4455
