About Us

Welcome to our London Studio

London has long been considered the design capital of the world, and our studio is perfectly placed in the heart of the action. Sitting at the boundary between the fast-paced City of London and the eclectic melting pot of the East, our studio is a microcosm of the city itself. We bring the energy and flair of London through our doors—it’s a place where diversity thrives, collaboration is key, and design excellence leads the way.

In 2019, award winning architecture firm Penoyre & Prasad joined Perkns&Will as a studio of the London office. We also collaborate with our sister company, branding and experience design studio Portland.

― A THOUGHTFUL DESIGN

A shift in the hierarchy of space allows more space to be given to amenity and collaboration areas, giving more choices of how and where to work.

→ The staff restaurant on level fifteen offers healthy food options, with access to a large roof terrace and sweeping views across London. This prime space was allocated for staff use, and has been designed with multifunctionality at the core. It supports working, meeting, dining and events.

A gym helps hotel guests maintain their wellness lifestyle when traveling, while plug-and-play breakout spaces to allow guests to work and rest in different spaces in a variety of settings.

→ The front facing terrace of the rooftop bar will provide fantastic views across the bay and Margate Seafront.

→ Inspiration was drawn from the elements that were key to Margate’s success: the transportation methods (steamer boats), the old pier, the fine beach sand, and the holiday feeling of freedom hinting to an escape into another world.

↑ The hotel façade sensitively enhances the historic Marine Terrace. The proposal completes the terrace block, matches the adjacent buildings effectively through the careful positioning of fenestration and selection of materials. The subtle appearance of the 4th and 5th floor promote the strength of the solid terrace massing below.

“I believe Margate is at a crucial point in its regeneration and that this hotel will help to move this forward. Margate is still a largely seasonal resort, and developments like this which increase visitor spend and support off-season activity such as conferences are vital.” ― LOCAL RESIDENT FROM ARLINGTON

↑ The guestrooms will evoke the calm feeling of taking a walk on the pier. With its natural colour palette, the balance creates a feeling of tranquility and relaxation..

← At ground level, a cocktail bar and traditional seafront restaurant reactivate the existing façade, celebrating Margate’s rich heritage and unique character.

Net-Zero Now : Interiors The impact of climate change is being felt globally. To protect our planet, and meet government targets, we have to act now. But the interiors, fit out, and refurbishment industry is already behind. For the majority of interiors projects it is currently not possible to deliver a net-zero embodied carbon scheme, but we need to figure out how we can. In October 2020, we launched Net-Zero Now, our pledge to deliver net-zero interiors and a manifesto for change. The report sets out our journey to achieving the net-zero embodied carbon targets for interiors projects, and the key milestones we will use to track our progress along the way. We must be agents for change, and take an inclusive approach to engage with our industry to see how, together, we can deliver net-zero interiors. 222

We pledge that: ✓ In Q4 2020 we will launch a consultation process with our key contractors, sub-contractors and supplier partners to ensure that our supply chain will meet our net-zero targets.

We will report progress every 6 months to the industry against the following criteria:

✓ By the end 2021 half of our projects will be designed to be 100% Circular. By 2025 all of our projects will be designed to be 100% Circular.

Thought Leadership

Road Map for Return Perkins&Will has carried out extensive thought leadership exercises to understand the implications of the rapid shift to home working during the COVID-19 pandemic . Specifically, we developed the roadmap for return document and ran webinars to assist our clients in safely reoccupying their offices in line with the government guidance. We have also been driving research into the different occupancy models of the future, from increased mobility, increased footprint for social distancing through to the decentralised hub and spoke model. The Road Map for Return document can be found by scanning the QR code above for an insight into some of our recent work.

Our Purpose

Our Purpose

Sustainability

Designing for life. For nearly a quarter of a century, we’ve been at the vanguard of the sustainability movement. Passionate about designing places where human life can thrive and entire ecosystems flourish, we’ve developed a reputation for challenging the status quo. For blazing trails into uncharted territory. Today, we’re still at it. We’re redefining sustainability as one of several interconnected parts to a greater, more meaningful whole. It’s a philosophy we call Living Design. By seamlessly incorporating sustainability, resilience, regeneration, inclusion, and wellbeing into each of our projects, we can help sustain life on earth—today, tomorrow, and beyond.

236

Our Purpose

Research

Innovation starts with inquiry. In our never-ending quest for knowledge, we push limits, take risks, investigate, and discover. We constantly ask ourselves, “What if?” “What’s next?” This makes our ideas clearer, our designs smarter, our teams happier, and our clients more satisfied.

238

Our Purpose

Digital Practice

Identifying and applying new technologies that optimise our design processes and improve the client experience. Our culture of innovation embraces new technology, putting us at the forefront of the profession. With the right digital tools, we can raise the value of every design decision we make. Our investment in digital research and development empowers us to design the future.

240

Together, we will design excellence. Together, we will create a better world.
