Located on the same plot of land Romeo and Juliet was first performed on, The Stage will feature a fully-preserved heritage centre displaying the remains of Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre, which was discovered during an excavation of the site. The restoration will include a sunken auditorium with an outdoor performance space linked to the vibrant public piazza.

Preserving History The remains of Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre, dating back to 1577, were discovered in 2012 three metres below the surface of the development. The remains will be meticulously excavated by archaeologists, preserved insitu and transformed into a local landmark.

Sustainability The Stage will transform an impermeable and once neglected part of Shoreditch into a major international visitor attraction with a new sustainable mixed-use neighbourhood. It will make a valuable contribution to its cultural, social and economic development of the surrounding area, and reinforce London as a world city. The development targets BREEAM Excellent.

The Stage A sky terrace on the 32nd floor will provide residents with communal space in which to relax and socialise while taking in London’s dramatic skyline.

Experiential Design An adjacent 19th Century railway viaduct will be transformed into boutique retail units with landscaped public gardens above, adding some necessary green space to a mostly concrete area of the capital.

A residential tower with high-end apartments will connect to the public arena, while each highly-specified suite is designed to maximise natural daylight. The lower levels boast a private spa, cinema, business suite and gymnasium.
