Since 1935, we’ve believed that design has the power to make the world a better, more beautiful place.

That’s why clients and communities on nearly every continent partner with us to design healthy, happy places in which to live, learn, work, play, and heal. We’re passionate about human-centered design, and committed to creating a positive impact in people’s lives through sustainability, resilience, well-being, diversity, inclusion, and research. In fact, Fast Company named us one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies in Architecture. Our global team of 2,300 creatives and critical thinkers provides integrated services in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and more. Our partners include Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen; retail strategy and design consultancy Portland; sustainable transportation planning consultancy Nelson\Nygaard; and luxury hospitality design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR).

Most Innovative Companies in Architecture 2018

Here, a culture of collaboration fosters our creativity: we are one team with a common set of goals and values. The ideals of beauty, simplicity, functionality, and sustainability—symbolized by the canoe that hangs in our atrium—are central to our work. With these as our foundation, combined with a desire to always do better, we forge new frontiers through research and innovation. Together, we create change.

The only constant is change With the pace of change in the world today, companies have to be agile and nimble. Creating a space that works for all users is key. We listen and get to know you and your company, then we create something that speaks to your staff or customer’s particular needs and is flexible enough to change when you need it to.

11

Interiors—Corporate, Technology, Workplace, Retail

It’s about nurturing the culture of your business.

Whether it’s a space for getting work done or a space to relax or a space to shop, it’s about creating a place where people want to be. In a world where people can work, shop, or play from anywhere, we create spaces where your people feel their most creative, productive, and happy. We spent time absorbing a company’s history, understanding what makes them tick, learning how they attract their talented staff, and forming personal relationships and a trusting rapport with the key decision makers. The results are spaces that are as agile as the companies, reflecting their values and harnessing their spirit.

↑ Adaptable spaces increase efficiency and allow for uses that may otherwise have not been possible.

← Providing shared spaces for a variety of work styles, keep employees engaged and happy.

Helping you plan for multiple futures.

The COVID-19 pandemic launched a large-scale workfrom-home experiment for all of us. Many days, we find ourselves with more questions than answers. How can we occupy space together safely? What do the next few months look like? What about the next few years? We have thought deeply about these questions in our own studios, and we are ready to support you as you plan your workplace. We have included a selection of our published thought leadership on the challenges and opportunities presented by this pandemic.

15

COVID-19 Thought Leadership Our studios have been envisioning the post-pandemic futures of our workplaces. Below is a selection of our published thought leadership on this topic—please click on the title links to read more.

COVID-19 and Workplace Resilience As we begin to return to work, questions linger about the long-term implications of the pandemic on our offices. In his white paper, Managing Principal and Global Corporate Interiors Practice Leader Fred Schmidt identifies short-term design interventions and examines longer-term real estate decisions. Rather than trying to predict the future, Fred employs scenario planning to articulate four possible futures our workplaces may inhabit.

Road Map for Return Meeting clients’ and partners’ need for comprehensive guidance on returning to work, our Workplace Strategy experts have created a Road Map for Return. This guide covers the near-term transition back to the workplace—from employee readiness, to distance analysis, to new protocols to consider as we look forward.

Future Dialogues: Road Map for Return in Practice This webinar from our London studio focused on potential future workplace models. The speaker panel included Natalie Smith, Associate Principal of Workplace Strategy, Carlotta Dove, Organizational Psychologist, and Linzi Cassels, Principal and Design Director for Interiors.

Lisa Pool, Principal, and Emily Klein, Associate Principal, provide guidance on how to manage our latest change to hybrid teams.

AT HOME Survey The AT HOME Survey was developed by the Perkins&Will Hx Lab in collaboration with the London Planning and Strategies team. All Perkins&Will studios were surveyed and the results are presented at the link above. Interested in surveying your workforce? Let us know! 17

Bringing renewed vitality to the heart of campus with the creation of a hub dedicated to student life and well-being.

Originally completed in 1969, we were tasked by the University to renew the old Student Union Building (SUB), extending its life for another 50+ years. Transforming into the UBC Life Building, the renewal turns the building’s dark bunker-like structure inside-out—introducing daylight to the central core, while balancing it with the strategic use of bold colours and a graphical approach to lighting design. This aims to engage the public realm and results in an impactful transformation within a limited budget.
