RESCUE and assistance Design and construction of each model fulfill the need for reliable, low maintenance standby and operation. They are designed for excellent maneuverability and sea keeping abilities in order to fulfill their prime functions – to provide an effective means of search and recovery of persons missing at sea.

The Norsafe fleet of rescue boats are designed and manufactured according to SOLAS 1983/96, Classification Society and National Authority requirements. Ready for efficient action In accordance with current IMO regulations, all RO-RO PAX vessels must have fast rescue boats with a minimum length of 6 m and a top speed of at least 20 knots. We have boats which fully comply with these requirements, and all equipment has been approved in accordance with SOLAS 1983/96 and subsequent amendments and EC labelled in accordance with the Marine Equipment Directive.

6

Rescue and fast rescue boats The diesel engines are equipped with fresh water engine cooling with heat exchanger to seawater cooling. Typical engine power is from 140hp to 420hp. Waterjets are suitable for both shallow waters as well as high speeds in adverse conditions. Standard propulsion is diesel engine with water jet, but they can be delivered with outboard engines and some models with shaft drive propeller. When equipped with minor engine, the boat is classified as rescue boat only. Reliable in all situations The deck area is self bailing, and the hull, spray hood, innerliner and steering console are made of fibreglass reinforced fire retardant polyester (GRP). Both hull and innerliner are one piece mouldings, bounded together, and the resulting spaces are filled with buoyant foam, making the boat unsinkable. A specially designed low maintenance heavy duty fender is fitted around the boat. The foam used in the fender is shock absorbing, oil resistant and will not absorb water. The fender cover is easily replaceable. All Norsafe rescue boats, when finished, are tested thoroughly at sea to make sure the boat performance and on board systems are working as specified. This is usually followed by customer sea-trials and FAT testing at Norsafe’s factories.

As an option, the boats equipped with Steyr® engine(s) can be fitted with a mechanical override engine control system (Steyr MEC®). Even if all on board engine electronics are heavily damaged or should fail completely, this system allows for the engines to be manually and mechanically run. This ensures a safe return for the crew to land or to the mothership. Rescue and other missions The Norsafe rescue boat’s layout and performance allows them to perform efficient rescue actions and other roles, including dive support, inspection, survey and work boat duties. Lifting arrangements Standard lifting is by single point off-load arrangement, but 3 or 4-point lifting slings are available on request. Additional features: • Aft deck watertight hatch gives access to batteries, automatic bilge pump, drive shaft and waterjet • Equipment storages with hatches • Manual bilge pump • On load painter release hook • Towing/mooring attachments mounted at each aft corner • Secure grab handles throughout the boat • Anti-slip deck surface • Lifelines fitted on the gunwhale • Wet exhaust system • Dual engine shut off system in case of capsize or driver being removed from his position, provided by dead man switch and mercury switch • Sprayhood to protect persons on deck • Optional Navigation, Communication and SAR electronics.

FAST ATTACk and long time operations

Norsafe has a wide range of boats for military and professional use, and attention is paid to guarantee the highest quality. Craftsmanship, parts and materials of only the very best quality are used. The boats are specially designed to operate away from shore or the mother ship for extended periods of time.

Combining superb seaworthiness, manoeuvrability and high speed, the boats are ideal for all types of assistance, patrols and other special applications. The layout and performance of the boats are ideal for use in different types of missions, including operations in hostile areas.

10

Invisible, invincible and reliable Combining superb seaworthiness, manoeuvrability and high speed, the boats are ideal for all types of missions, patrols and other general applications. The boats have a low freeboard, a sprayhood specially designed for boarding, an anti-slip deck surface. They are self-bailing, have ample deck space, a self-righting system and a sturdy foam-filled fender. Radar waves pass through fibreglass, giving the boats an inherent stealth capability. This combined with very little use of aluminium or steel helps reduce the overall radar signature. In some areas, failure of the equipment is, and cannot be, an option. The boats operating in the “no-failure-zone” can be equipped with Steyr® engine(s) with a mechanical override control system (Steyr MEC®) for the engine electronics. Even if all on board engine electronics are heavily damaged or should fail completely, this system allows for the engines to be manually and mechanically run. This ensures a safe return for the crew to land or to the mothership.

Approved by the authorities The boats are designed, built and equipped to comply with MSA’s regulations or similar national regulations. Other classifications/ certificates can be supplied upon request. All boats are specially designed and constructed to fulfill the need for reliability, low maintenance standby and operation. All Norsafe boats when finished, are tested thoroughly at sea to make sure the boat performance and on board systems are working properly. This is usually followed by customer sea-trials and FAT testing at Norsafe’s factory. Flexibility creates tailor-made solutions One of the advantages for our customers is our flexibility, making it possible to build boats tailor-made for our customers. Since our first deliveries of professional boat in 1993 all the boats have been individually equipped. We work close with the customer to make sure that all options and solutions are optimal for the purpose of which the boats are intended. Standard propulsion is inboard diesel engine with waterjet, but Norsafe offers a wide range of single, twin or triple engine installations. These can be coupled with waterjets, stern drives or surface drives. The uses span from shallow water/river operations to high speed offshore use.

LIFESAVInG drop into sea A large number of ships and offshore installations are equipped with our free-fall lifeboats. Our largest boat is certified for heights up to 40 meters and is highly space efficient. We supply davits specially designed for our free-fall lifeboats and can adapt davits to suit all onboard conditions. Fast boarding The craft has a large watertight embarkation door in the stern and a centre aisle in the full length of the boat ensuring the boat to be boarded in a minimum amount of time. The safest there is The boat is double skinned, with foam buoyancy injected both into the space within the inner and outher elements and into specific buoyancy tanks. This means that the boat is unsinkable, even damaged and in fully flooded condition. The craft has a positive stability up to 180 degrees and is thus selfrighting both in intact and flooded condition. The steering rudder nozzle has been specially designed to give maximum thrust from the propeller. The lifeboat system is robust and can withstand high winds, powerful waves and extreme weather conditions. 16

Free-fall lifeboat davit HD system The Norsafe HD davit system is especially designed for safe and efficient launching and retrieval of our free-fall lifeboats. The davit system is designed for long time operation in a tough and corrosive marine/offshore environment. The davit system is designed to fulfil all requirements as given in SOLAS 1983/96/IMO requirements. The system will allow: • Free-fall launch of the fully loaded lifeboat. • Free-fall launch of fully loaded lifeboat with 20° list and 10° trim, completely independent of any power supply. • Controlled launch of the fully loaded lifeboat • Recovery of the boat including crew of 3 persons (the system is designed for recovery of a fully laden boat.).

Advantages with free-fall system: • Fast embarkation and seating • Maximum distance from installation to water entry point. • Positive forward motion after water entry. • Good guidance during initial phase of drop giving stability during free-fall phase. • Well proven system designed for large heel/trim angels. • Robust system against heavy wind and waves from any direction. • High level of comfort • Significantly higher level of safety than conventional lowering of lifeboats

SHELTERED and totally enclosed Norsafe’s totally enclosed lifeboats (TELBs) are conventional lifeboats used all over the world – on ships and offshore installations. Our largest TELB has a capacity of 136 persons and is one of the largest on the market. The smaller boats under 8,5m in the lifeboat range are approved both as lifeboats and rescue boats.

COnVEnTIOnAL safe and protected Norsafe TELBs are designed and built according to rules and regulations of SOLAS 1983/96 IMO requirements, Classification Societies and National Authorities and are EC labelled in accordance with the Marine Equipment Directive. Safe in a totally enclosed shell Hull, superstructure, buoyant tanks, water and provision containers are made of fire-retardant GRP. The hull and superstructure are moulded into one unit. Together with the innerliner structure, the design forms a double skin boat preventing water from flooding the cabin if the outer hull should be damaged. The boat is equipped with on-load lifting hooks which are controlled from a release handle mounted at the steering position. Hooks will release simultaneously when the craft is fully waterborne. All Norsafe conventional lifeboats can be delivered with Norsafe’s new TOR MKII release system.

Firetest When Norsafe carried out a fire test in cooperation with the Norwegian technical laboratory, SINTEF, a lifeboat was lowered in an oil boom, filled with 4 000 litres of kerosene in a 10 cm thick layer on the water. The kerosene was lighted with gasoline that made the boat completely enclosed in flames for 10 minutes. SINTEF measured temperatures up to 1 200°C 10 cm away from the hull side. Inside the temperature was measured at 27°C. The test lasted 11,5 minutes, and the air quality inside was normal during the entire test. The reason why the boats can withstand these temperatures is because of the external sprinkler system, covering the entire boat in water in combination with fire retardant glassfibre reinforced polyester. Air bottles supply both engine and passengers with fresh air.

Fire protecting system The fire protecting spray system pump takes sea water from the lowest possible location under the boat. The spray system provides water over the entire surface of the craft (1200 l/min). The compressed air system has sufficient capacity to provide air for a minimum of 12 minutes. The over pressure inside the craft prevent ingress of toxic fumes or gas. Provisions have been made to recharge the air system from the ship’s compressed air system. 20
