Safety log 1 2012

Dear Reader, The Offshore Market continues to be active for both new building and upgrades. The market has recently shown a significant rise in demand for Floatels and Vessels for accommodation. There has been, and will continue to be, significant safety improvements both at SOLAS/IMO and from flag states including Norway, Australia, United Kingdom and others. The new and strict Regulations call for new and improved products. Norsafe has products fulfilling all the new standards. According to NMD and NPD, Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and Ptil, existing Floating Units and Jack Ups operating on the Norwegian Continental Shelf have a period of grace until 31.12.2014 to come into 100% accordance with NMD 853 and NORSOK R-002. Also the DNV-OS- E406 Standard for Free Fall Lifeboats is coming closer to readiness. Our hope is that this standard will be implemented at the end of 2012.

Several countries, including the UK, Australia and Malaysia are now following the new Norwegian Standards for Lifeboats. We are very pleased to see the strong increase in focus on marine safety amongst national maritime and oil related authorities and followed up by the Oil Companies. As the major Supplier of Free Fall Lifeboats and Davits, we have experienced an increasing demand for free fall installations for mobile floating units and fixed installations worldwide. Increasing demand for regular service and OEM training. As we are supplying more and more Norsafe equipment to the market, we are realizing an increasing demand for service and support. We are therefore focused on growing our service division further and we have recently opened Norsafe BV in Rotterdam, and Norsafe do Brazil in Salvador and Macae. IMO has now released the final Guidance for the new SOLAS Regulations for Lifeboat Release Hooks. Norsafe TOR MK II series On Load Release Hooks are made of Duplex Steel and are now Prototype Approved by DNV according the new SOLAS Regulations. We have ensured that Stock of Hooks are available and ready for Re-hooking on short notice in all Service Stations World Wide. Norsafe pioneered the installation of Free Fall Lifeboats over the ship side (rather than from the stern as had been standard practice otherwise). This installation is not regulated in SOLAS, so it is necessary to obtain Flag State approval for each and every case. Norsafe made the first free fall installation of this type in 1994, for the Baldur, Varg and Norne FPSO projects. It is often used today for FPSO and heavy lift vessels, and Norsafe has detailed knowledge of this type of installation. As a major SOLAS supplier, Norsafe is focused upon achieving the best possible training of crew and maintenance operators for lifesaving equipment. Norsafe has entered an agreement with the reputable Safemar AS training centre. Safemar are located in Grimstad, just a short distance away from Norsafe. This agreement means that training can be offered at Safemar on Norsafe Lifeboats, Rescue Boats and Free Fall Systems, all with Norsafe Davits.

All of our TOR MK2 hooks have now successfully passed the self-assessment and testing according MSC.1/Circ.1392. They fulfill also MSC.1/Circ.1393. On-load release hook systems have been an issue of safety and concern for a long time. Norsafe has taken this seriously and has been an initiator of new regulations and an innovator in developing newer, safer on-load release hook systems. New regulations are the basis of a safe and reliable on-load release hook system and the new IMO regulations set forth in MSC Resolution 320(89) and 321(89) will enter into force on January 1. 2013. The test requirements for the existing hook system, as described in MSC.1/ Circ.1392 and 1393, are a good step in the right direction. Important dates for the new RRS (Retrieval and Release System): • New Chapter IV of the LSA Code are expected to enter into force on 1 January 2013 • Hook producers Self-assessments and testing to be concluded latest 1 July 2013. • Hooks that do not comply with the new LSA code as amended by resolution MSC.320(89) shall be replaced or modified not later than the next scheduled dry-docking after July 2014, latest July 1 2019.

Norsafe are now ready to re-hook, with an approved hook system. We have hooks on stock in our service stations around the world and a team of engineers ready to do the job at your convenience.

Hitting the bull’s eye Norsafe’s latest free fall lifeboat system has already become a market success. GES50 MKIII lifeboat with davit HD50 will be delivered for the first time in November this year, and Norsafe’s order book now contains more than 40 complete systems! GES50 MKIII complies with DNV-OS-E406 and NORSOK R-002, which are the newest standards for Life Saving Appliances (LSA) applicable for the Norwegian Continental Shelf. What is really positive and remarkable is that these new rules and regulations are being increasingly adopted worldwide among the most stringent and leading actors in the offshore industry. Our list of customers for GES50 MKIII • Chevron ordered GES50 MKIII for their processing platform on the Wheatstone field in Australia. • Songa Drilling ordered GES50 MKIII systems for two semi-submersible drilling rigs operating for Statoil in the harshest areas of the Norwegian Continental Shelf, also known as Statoil Category D rigs. • BP wants GES50 MKIII for their FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading), BP Quad 204, which will be operating at the British oilfield, Schiehallion. • Teekay by Teekay Petrojarl will use Norsafe GES50 MKIII at the FPSO being built for Knarr field in the northern North Sea. • COSL Drilling Europe order GES50 MKIII for their drilling platform COSL Prospector. This platform is designed for operation in environmentally demanding areas and will have the DNV Clean Class notation as one of the first drilling units in the world. COSL Prospector will be purpose built for winterized areas and will have class notation ICE-T and Winterized Basic. Also equipped with GES50 MKIII from Norsafe, COSL Prospector is perfectly adapted for the toughest areas, including the North Sea, Barents Sea, Greenland and Canada. The ultimate choice for safe evacuation The GES50 MKIII free fall lifeboat has a capacity for 70 persons of 100 kg, and will be certified for a drop height up to 40 meters or more. Through years of research and development, including intensive testing, the GES50 free fall lifeboat has proven itself to be the ultimate choice for safe evacuation of ship and platform crew in case of an emergency situation. Effective replacement of existing lifeboat systems Through the important framework agreement with Beerenberg Corp AS, Norsafe Group will be able to play a bigger role in large international projects by taking in replacements of complete offshore lifeboats systems. Beerenberg provides engineering, Rope Access Technique (RAT), Mobile Cutting/Machining and Sveisolat®(habitat) completing replacement of existing lifeboat davit structures with a minimum of shut down period.

On the 6th of March, Norsafe and Beerenberg gathered experts from both the offshore industry and national authorities for a seminar concerning the newest standards and regulations applicable for the Norwegian Continental Shelf. As organizers, we hoped for 60-70 participants and were overwhelmed when close to 130 people registered, filling the biggest conference room at Rica Airport Hotel in Stavanger. The participants were given a brief historical background regarding the new rules and regulations, followed by a walk-through of the content and major impact of the new standards. Senior R&D personnel presented Norsafe’s latest studies, projects and products designed to meet the latest requirements. This exciting session was followed by a presentation of the important framework agreement between Norsafe and Beerenberg that enables the Norsafe Group to play a bigger role when it comes to replacements of complete lifeboat systems offshore. After a tasty lunch, Beerenberg presented their wide range state-of-the-art offshore multidisciplinary services, showing the possibility to replace existing Life Saving Appliances (LSA) with a minimum shut down period. The seminar was concluded by an engaging, open session with an expert panel consisting of resource personnel from DNV, Norsafe and Beerenberg. The participants asked questions, opened for discussions and the expert panel c ontributed with answers and comments in a very professional way.
