WELCOME Young people are makers, thinkers, creators and artists. We value them not just as Festival goers but for being contributing artists who we celebrate alongside the world’s best at Perth Festival. With the support of the Department of Education and the Fogarty Foundation, our Education & Creative Learning Program offers a rich range of opportunities including workshops and masterclasses that bring performers into the classroom and delve deeper into students’ creative powers. In 2019 students will create fanfares and films for our Festival audiences, who also will get to hear our kid curators challenge Writers Week guests with their thought-provoking questions. We invite you to join us in shining an international spotlight on our youngest creative minds.

EDUCATION MANAGER
Perth Festival acknowledges that our events take place on the lands of the Noongar people and we wish to pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this Country. As we celebrate the work of contemporary artists from around the world, we also acknowledge and respect the continuing culture of the Whadjuk people and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
Perth Festival is a wonderful opportunity to open up the world to West Australian students. The Fogarty Foundation is supporting the Education & Creative Learning Program to enable as many students as possible across the community to be involved. Students have the opportunity to see world class performances and be involved in an immersive program that enables them to see behind the scenes, meet and speak with the performers, take part in workshops and to be creators of art themselves.

SEEDS OF CHANGE
GROUND STORIES
Seeds of Change invites Western Australian school children to learn about and pledge to protect a species of flora or fauna from their local area. Students contribute a seedpod lantern with a drawn image of their species that forms the magical installation at the conclusion of Boorna Waanginy. A new advanced component, Ground Beneath Our Feet, helps schools undertake projects to protect the environment in their immediate neighbourhoods.
Keep your eyes peeled for studentcreated short films on the big screen at Lotterywest Films. Inspired by the provocation ‘the ground beneath our feet’, high school students will work with a team of mentor filmmakers to create short documentary films that explore their passion for the environment and the stories it tells. Visit perthfestival.com.au to find out more about this incredible project.
