Kettle Drums Restaurant & Bar The building itself used to be a transmission shop. The owner’s have since completely gutted the insides, and transformed the building into a chic restaurant and bar. Inside the dining area, Kettle Drums features local artistry, beautiful stonework, a built-in fireplace, and a magnificent bar area. The kitchen has been completely built up from scratch, including a new pizza oven to serve their signature pizzas. The outside has also been redone from the ground up – the exterior walls, new pavement, two spectacular patios, as well as landscaping. The ScottcoDanaco Partnership (J.G. Allan Hall) J.G. Allan Hall is the second property in what was once called Doctors Alley, which Scott Stewart and Dana Merrett have restored to its original beauty. The renovation rescued and preserved a two-storey brick building in a section of downtown Peterborough, gradually undergoing badly-needed revitalization. Significant transformations were made to both the outside and inside of this 19th Century home to extend the structure’s life while maintaining its architectural integrity and style. Westmount Pharmacy The building standing today at Westmount Plaza, one of the first plazas in Peterborough, was constructed over 60 years ago and has been a home to many local start-up businesses. Murad Younis, owner of the plaza, took this historic section of land and transformed it back to a building from the past with the help of local contractors and designers. To reduce the total energy consumption of the building, additional renovations were completed such as new wiring, lighting, plumbing, and drainage systems. Treehouse Studio Treehouse Studio was responsible for the creation of the 2012 Little Lake Musicfest campaign. They were able to create a cohesive campaign for the Musicfest, showing consistency throughout their website, program, tickets, newspaper ads, diner’s card program, and promotion of their MusicJam event. This campaign helped the Musicfest maintain strong, recognizable branding while promoting the Musicfest all year long. STUDENT BUSINESS LEADERSHIP BURSARY This bursary was established on behalf of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce as a way to recognize exceptional business leadership potential in a post-secondary student. Part of the Chamber mandate is to encourage young people who are interested in the world of business. The Peterborough Business Excellence Awards is the perfect venue to award this bursary, which will recognize student excellence and foster responsible leadership and business prosperity for our future. TYLER LOVENUK (Hospitality Administration - Hotel and Resort Management) Born in Russell, Ontario, Tyler has always been eager to get involved. While attending St. Thomas Aquinas C.H.S, he was elected as the Communications Officer, then Social Chair. He then moved on to the Board Student Senate, where, for 2 terms he served as Vice-Student Trustee. Upon graduation Tyler was awarded the Principal’s Award of Excellence and the Trustee’s Bursary, and was named Class Valedictorian. Tyler’s community has always meant a great deal to him. He was a Co-Director in the community youth group production for 4 years, as well as a member of the Russell Association of the Performing Arts in their production of Grease.
TRENT UNIVERSITY
At Fleming College Tyler is a member of the Student Representative program for the School of Justice and Business studies. He has also served as the Student Governor to the Board. Tyler would like to thank everyone who made this possible, and for their continued investment in student success.
WILSON SCOTT (Business Administration) Wilson is an impressive student and leader in the Trent University Business Administration Program, as well as more widely in the Trent and Peterborough-area community. He is from Courtice, where he co-manages a team in a window cleaning business. As a Trent student, he has been on the Dean’s Honour Roll at Trent every year, and has achieved a cumulative 85% average. Besides academic excellence in the Business Administration Program (with particular skills in entrepreneurship), Wilson has been a don and an athletics advisor for students in residence. He has helped with the business side of a Big Band. He is presently the co-captain and in charge of planning, recruitment and training for Trent Business’ JDCC team. JDCC-Trent is a huge business student competition initiative, showcasing Trent’s business student talent to high profile business leaders and adjudicators, as well as the best of the best of students from business programs across Canada.
BUSINESS CITIZEN OF THE YEAR In recognition of a member of the community who meets the following criteria: • Must be a resident of the Greater Peterborough Community; • Has played a significant role in the Business Community; • Has some involvement in the broader community. As the Chamber of Commerce is a Business-to-Business organization, the role that a nominee for the Business Citizen of the Year Award has had in the Business Community is extremely important.
