Monorail for Pattaya Moves a Stage Closer
Shortly before the Christmas Festivities, Khun Sonthaya Khunplome, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Tourism, chaired a development strategy meeting to discuss the possibility of Pattaya constructing a monorail system around prime locations within the City. Many local and government officials attended the meeting together with other interested parties and design and construction specialists. Pattaya City Mayor, Khun Itthiphol Khunplome, led the Pattaya City Hall Administrators and Pattaya Council Members at the
meeting. This latest meeting was an update from previous meetings and discussions on the outcome of various feasibility studies which have been carried out recently. The meeting highlighted the need for a dramatic improvement to the existing transportation system

their field), to carry out further studies on Pattaya traffic and the monorail solution. These companies have been here since October last year, and will complete their studies in March 2010. Representatives from both companies attended the meeting to file interim reports on their progress. The initial studies have revolved around the environmental impact such a project would have on the local community, the best way to attract the finance required, the proposed routes of the monorail and the best type of system to suit
local conditions. The meeting also attracted representatives from private companies in France and Japan, both famous for their monorail systems, so they could offer advice and experience from a qualified position on some of the pitfalls they had encountered. Further meetings are scheduled to take place after the studies have been completed in March.
