Immigration requests early visa renewals PATTAYA immigration bureau has announced that one year retirement visa holders, totalling over 12,000 mainly male retirees over 50 in the eastern seaboard, should renew their visa not less than seven days before the expiry date. This is because some applicants for renewal have some problem in their
paperwork. By the time it’s sorted out, they may have gone into overstay and be fined which can lead to disillusionment and misunderstandings. The bureau points out that there is no reason to wait until the very end of the one retirement year visa before reapplying. It can be done a month or two in advance
without penalty. The kind of problems which can lead to delays in reissuing the visa are an out of date letter from the Thai bank, lack of an embassy guarantee of income letter, lack of a passport photo and the wrong forms filled in or the right ones incomplete. Continued on page 2
