Celebrate 138 Years This year the Chonburi Province will celebrate 138 years of Buffalo Racing, this traditional event will be celebrated between the 28th September and the 4th October, on the empty space in front of the Banglamung District Offices. The event will once again be organised by the Chonburi Provincial Administration in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The festivities will begin on the 28th September, however, the actual buffalo racing will take place on the 2nd and 3rd October. The event is staged in an attempt to provide some relief from the recession for
local residents, bring some much needed tourists into the region, and publicise Chonburi as a tourist destination for both national and international tourists. This very colourful and entertaining festival has been amusing the local residents for generations. The organisers have issued an open invitation to Chonburi residents and visiting tourists
to come along and enjoy a few days of light hearted entertainment. The seven day event will feature many other activities, including, buffalo decorating competition, both for beauty and funny make-up, buffalo health competition, most beautiful and cutest rice field pageant, Thai Folk Singing and displays on the different Thai cultures from around the Kingdom. Of course, the highlight, as every year, will be the buffalo racing. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy traditional Thai games throughout the days of the event, including, climbing oily poles, Thai Boxing for beginners, and catapult
