Care Home Opens for Pattaya Retirees

A

new business initiative promises to deal with a well-known problem for elderly expats: lack of good retirement homes with care facilities. Now Absolute Living (Thailand), a new long stay operator, has just opened its doors at the 150rai Long Lake Hillside Resort which is a ten-minute drive from central Pattaya on the bypass road leading to Suvarnabhumi airport. There are 36 villas of varying sizes and amenities with a 50-people capacity.

Managing director Pensiri Panyarachun, who has rented the property for 12 years, decided to transform it into residential unit for the elderly, including call buttons, safety grab bars, 24-hour CCTV and security. There’s direct assistance, where necessary, with everyday tasks such as bathing and dressing by trained staff. There are facilities for individuals suffering from dementia and for persons recovering from surgery who are otherwise healthy.

Another service is independent living facilities for both Thai and foreign women and men who are in good health but want the opportunity to experience communal living. Most guests at the moment are Europeans, Australians, Americans and Japanese. Costs are in the region of 50,000 baht a month rising to around 120,000 baht plus a month for those needing 24-hour care and attention. Facilities Continued on page 4
