Angkor Wat is the most popular tourist site

hile 2014 saw a number of problems affecting Thai tourism, locals and internationals flocked to neighboring Cambodia especially for the New Year festivities. According to Cambodian government figures, the total annual number of visitors reached three million for the first time. Far and away the most popular attraction was Siem Reap and the neighboring Angkor Wat temple sites which accounted for over a third of all visitors. More tourists came to Cambodia by Siem Reap airport than any other air or land entry point. The next most popular venue was the beach resort of Sihanoukville which is now linked to Siem Reap by air. However, tourist arrivals by land crossings from Thailand actually dropped by about five percent in 2014. This is believed to be linked to new regulations by the Thai authorities which appear to restrict re-entry for some foreigners without a prior visa.
