Is Pattaya Heading for more Water Shortages
Many may believe that there is no shortage of water in Pattaya, but if you are in certain residential areas, (even in Central or North Pattaya), you could know otherwise. No water for three days has already occurred, and for a few months, a low pressure trickle between midnight and early morning was the norm. This is barely enough to refill underground storage tanks, and many residents are buying water from truck operators, so why is there a problem? According to government information gathered, it appears that most rivers in the region have stopped flowing, so there is no more water coming into our reservoirs. At a Pattaya Business and Tourism Meeting (PBTA) late last year, a Chonburi Government official stated that weather predictions were for floods in America, but drought conditions in Asia. Local water authorities did not see
any problems as Pattaya’s water storage areas were 80 - 85% full and they had increased their capabilities to capture flood waters from rivers. However, what happens if we get drought conditions and the expected rains do not arrive?

Mabprachan Lake is looking decidedly lower than this time last year
of visitors, tourists and even locals, to ensure that everyone has a happy holiday. This is all very nice if our expected wet season ‘kicks in’ with some good heavy rain fall, but what happens if this does not occur? We can look forward to ‘more of the same’ water shortages, leading to even worse conditions, because
while water reservoirs such as Lake Mabprachan still have water, if there is no water flowing in, then shortages will inevitably occur. Remember that the whole of S.E. Asia is facing an ‘el nino’ style drought situation, so we all have to conserve water wherever possible. Maybe the Songkran water revelers should be made
to buy water from water trucks, so they appreciate the value of water.
an Apology to our Advertisers and Readers If you have been trying to contact us by email on one of our @pattayatoday.net email address since the middle of February, then there is a good chance you have had the email returned or simply not received an answer from us. In spite of the current water shortages, there is no doubt that water will be freely available for all, during the Songkran festivities, where huge amounts of water are thrown around for a week. No matter what the cost, water will be wasted for one whole week, as it is the policy of the city to look after the interests
The problems first arose in the middle of February when our website, www. pattayatoday.net, was maliciously hacked into and destroyed. Silvermover, the company who designs and hosts our site were very quickly on the case and within a few weeks we had a brand new website up and running. At the same time as we lost the site, we also lost all our
Email accounts, including all the content, however, we managed to create new ones and had them back on line very quickly. Silvermover spent hours trying to get to the bottom of the problem. We are still encountering major problems with emails, some disappearing into cyber space, never to be heard from again. It appeared that CAT had problems with
their DNS servers, this was followed by problems with our IP address. So if any of you have attempted to contact us over the last few weeks and not received a reply, my apologies, and could I please ask you to resend to pattayatoday@hotmail.co.uk. We expect to have the email system operational again very quickly and will keep you abreast of developments. In the mean time why not take the opportunity to check out our new site, I am sure you won't be disappointed.
