eter Ström of Stockholm, Sweden has heard all the jokes about a Sportster being a girl’s bike. He doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder, but he did set out to prove that a Sportster drivetrain in a custom frame could handle better than most Big Twins and look good doing it. Normally when we hear Swedish Chopper, we think of long downtubes and stretched frames. Since Peter is from Sweden and he had the frame custom built to his specifications, not all Swedish Choppers are built alike. A ’97 XL 1200 gave its life so Peter could build his dream Chopper. Calles Chopperdelar Sweden custom built the rigid frame with a single downtube, 39º of neck rake and three inches of stretch. The 10”-over front end is from DNA. A
Juri Haglund of Pinhead Lounge applied the Satin Black base and gold leaf pinstriping. 76 - Jun/Jul 2011 - AmericanCycleMag.com

60-spoke, 21” wheel rolls up front with an Ultima four-piston caliper providing the stopping power. A matching 60-spoke, 18” wheel rolls on the back with an Ultima four-piston caliper once again providing the stopping power. The unique Bonanza handlebars are from Fred Kodlin and ride on two-inch risers from Flyrite Choppers with Tolle hand controls and Jammer vintage-black grips. The shorty headlight is a Retro unit from Jammer Cycle. The 22” gas tank holds 4.1 gallons of fuel and features a British-style snap-lock gas cap. The horseshoe (or Softail) styled oil tank features the snaplock cap as well. The rear fender is a Fatty from Paul Yaffe Originals. A Crime Scene Choppers low-profile Hard Ass sprung seat looks great, but AmericanCycleMag.com - Jun/Jul 2011 - 77

I don’t know how comfortable it is on long rides. Stock Harley mid controls with Battistinis round-hole pegs make for superior handling. Juri Haglund of Pinhead Lounge applied the Satin Black base and gold leaf pinstriping. It’s amazing how many American companies are featured in Peter’s build along with some very innovative European companies. Peter could not have completed this build without the help of his friend Kenta, he not only donated his time and knowledge, but he also donated his shop, Ace Performance, to the build. Nobody is laughing at Peter’s supposed girl bike now. He ended up with a right-side drive custom with plenty of power and a lower cost than a Big Twin custom would have been. Peter already has 1,000 different ideas for his next build. It might be a traditional Swedishstyle Chopper, or another just like this. He is going to have to save up some Krona before he starts. 78 - Jun/Jul 2011 - AmericanCycleMag.com
