Technology enabled Your learning at CULC is underpinned and supported by the latest developments in technology from our Learning Resource Centre, to a unique simulated trading floor and a range of in-class technology. You can collaborate and study with your peers, your tutors and your future employers using the best in teaching and learning technologies. Our Learning Resource Centre provides access to world class learning resources that will support your studies. This includes books at CULC, as well as access to the collections at Lanchester Library in Coventry. In addition we have over 29,000 eJournals and 51,000 eBooks available online through the eLibrary 24/7.
Simulated trading floor Students at CULC benefit from a simulated trading floor facility which provides them with a unique business experience and learning opportunity. The trading floor facility features 25 stations, which allows students to benefit from interactive teaching of complex financial investments, including equities, fixed incomes, commodities and energy.
Lecturers can filter out market noise during training sessions, focus in on certain products and simulate specific market conditions. This type of hands-on learning allows students to understand the risks associated with trading and how to respond to different market conditions. The trading floor simulations are being used across a wide range of programmes at CULC to include, for example, teaching global business students about factors influencing international trade and investment, and oil and gas management students how prices are determined. By emulating real trading under a tightly controlled environment in both open and closed training facilities, students are able to learn the techniques used by corporate financial institutions to determine efforts and profitability related to risk taking.
“
I really enjoy the lectures and group work, the tutors are supportive and work hard to ensure you succeed in your studies

Accommodation Accommodation support service Making the decision about where to live during your time at Coventry University London Campus is one of the most important you’ll make. To help you make your decision, our Student Services Team are here to assist you. There are many accommodation options in and around London. Depending on your preference and budget, we can help you find a suitable house or flat share, or a room within one of the popular halls of residence located close to our campus. The cost of accommodation varies widely depending on the type and location. When looking for accommodation, it is important to consider how close you want to be to public transport links, the campus, as well as the extensive cultural and social scene that London has to offer including shops, museums, theatres, bars and restaurants. We would advise you book well in advance to ensure you secure your preferred accommodation option. At CULC, we can offer you the following accommodation services:
Halls of residence CULC has agreements with various companies which provide purpose built student accommodation with a range of room options to suit your budget. Studio rooms often include basic kitchen facilities, while en-suite rooms enable you to share the kitchen facilities with other students. To help you budget your living expenses, all costs such as internet and utility bills (water, electricity, gas, council tax) are included in the price and facilities generally include a gym, launderette and common social areas. The halls of residences are in locations close to the campus and also further out of the city to offer you a full set of options. Get in touch with the Student Services Team for more information and to take advantage of our guaranteed places.
Flat or house share If you prefer to rent a house or flat, our Student Services Team can connect you with approved agents, available properties and assist you through the process of securing a property. We can also put you in contact with other students who are looking to share accommodation. This type of accommodation is often cheaper than halls of residence. However, it is important to bear in mind that in addition to your rent you will also have to pay for other costs including utility bills and internet charges.
General advice We are always on hand to help with any practical advice on living in and getting around London.
For details on how to apply for accommodation, or advice and guidance on rents and facilities, you can contact us via email studentservices@culc.coventry.ac.uk

BA (Hons) Top-up Modules Developing Business Practice
The transition into learning at a new level poses all students with a differing level of challenge. The aim of this module is to ensure students have a clear understanding of the requirements of the final year of undergraduate study and provides them with a range of skills that will enable them to navigate their programme of study with the greatest chance of success.
International Business Strategy The international environment is complicated by pressure for business to globalise, to overcome cultural barriers and to accept high levels of risk in some markets. This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the challenges of international business and of the strategic issues facing businesses.
Workplace Project/Work-based Project At CULC we are committed to ensuring students have a real business experience. A key element of this is the opportunity to gain work experience and have the chance to put theory into practice. This can be in any area of business (including sales and marketing, finance and human resource management), usually in the UK but occasionally overseas. Students may choose the area of work. We encourage all students to apply for workplace projects which are relevant to their studies and, if possible, match their career aspirations.
Advanced Marketing Strategy Students will identify opportunities and target markets, position brands and form the basis for competing and growth strategies necessary to an organisation´s sustainable future. Even in organisations recognising the role of strategising, there is often poor implementation planning and ineffective rollout of the determined strategy. This module will support students in the development of the necessary skills to overcome such issues.
Audit and Internal Control This module builds on and requires knowledge and understanding of financial accounting and reporting developed earlier in the programme. Its aim, for different business entities operating in an international environment, is to develop understanding and critical evaluation of internal control risks and organisational responses, as well as audit processes and their application in the context of the external regulatory framework. Subject to accreditation, the module will enable students to gain exemptions from some professional accounting qualification papers.
www.coventry.ac.uk/londoncampus
Financial Management The objective is to familiarise students with the major strands of financial management theory and to apply the theory to real world applications. All major areas of financial management will be covered including fixed and working capital asset management, capital investment, the financing of the company, the valuation of companies and the measurement and evaluation of performance in financial terms. Underlying the entire module will be the relationship between risk and the rate of return.
International Corporate Reporting This module aims to ensure students understand and are able to apply the main provisions of international accounting standards, as well as prepare financial statements for various business combinations. Subject to accreditation, the module will enable students to gain exemptions from some professional accounting qualification papers.
International Finance This module provides students with an understanding of the international dimension of finance and how this impacts business. By the end of this module students should appreciate the workings and operation of currency derivatives markets, the international money and capital markets and the principles of currency risk management. The subject matter of the module includes study of currency markets, international parity conditions, international money markets, the nature and importance of currency risk and strategies for managing currency risk.
International Hospitality Operations Management Providing students with an understanding of the skills, techniques, technology and management issues involved in hospitality operations, this module enables students to manage and lead effectively in an international commercial environment.
23
24
International Human Resource Management This module provides students with an overview of Human Resource Management and how they can apply the key concepts in their own work contexts and the contingencies affecting it. Students will be equipped with a critical understanding of the key human resource management processes, including the recruitment and selection of staff, their training and development, and the ways in which their performance can be assessed and rewarded.
International Investment Analysis Students will identify the opportunities and risks arising from foreign market exposure of companies. Students will be introduced to a number of theoretical concepts and analytical tools to enable them to make an informed decision about an investment in a foreign business venture. They will explore the issues, risks and uncertainties international business managers have to deal with and the financial instruments managers can use to minimise these risks.
International Marketing Strategy Students are introduced to the various aspects of international marketing with the principal objective of developing the skills to identify, analyse and solve problems encountered in international marketing theories and the development of international marketing strategies.
International Tourism Destinations Students will develop an understanding of the complex range of strategic business and management issues raised by the choice of scale, scope and structure of international tourism destinations. Students will develop a critical awareness of the need for a holistic approach to tourism destinations and its complexities, whilst making extensive use of international case studies.

Management Accounting for Business Decisions Students will gain an understanding of the limitations of management accounting techniques. In order to do this, students must first understand what the techniques try to do and how they do it. In addition, students are introduced to the behavioural aspects of managerial accounting in areas such as transfer pricing, divisional performance and business performance management. This module also looks at current controversial issues such as the use of activity-based costing as opposed to absorption costing.
Marketing Communications This module provides an insight into the discourse of marketing communications and enables students to develop a critical appreciation of marketing communications theory and practice. It offers an insight into how the media planning function works with the other communication areas in order to produce communication campaigns that deliver business and marketing objectives.

Pre-Sessional English Training Programmes require students to have achieved an IELTS score of 6.0 for BA (Hons) degrees and 6.5 for all BA (Hons) top-up and postgraduate programmes. It is important in subjects like management, business, marketing, finance or human resource management that students are able to express their ideas clearly and communicate with other students. Furthermore, companies will be reluctant to offer internships to students whose command of spoken or written English is weak. CULC offers a pre-sessional English course for those students with an existing IELTS level of 5.5 or 6.0 to ensure they meet the required level for progression onto academic study. The pre-sessional course will help students to: • Develop their academic English so that they are better prepared to cope with university-level study • Develop their study skills and understand what is expected of them as a student in the UK higher education system Students may need to undertake the course if their offer to study at CULC is conditional upon their achievement of the required IELTS entry requirement. Upon successfully completing the pre-sessional course, students will meet CULC’s English language requirements. Alternatively, many students who already have the required IELTS score may want to develop their language skills further and be better prepared for the demands of undergraduate or postgraduate level study.
