The reason I want to work in media is because I feel as if I have a place in the industry whether it be a small part or a big part, I know my abilities and what I am capable of. Including the three years of being a university I have been doing media production for five years, so I have a lot of experience working with people and producing media material. When I work it is usually a fun and interesting because I am doing things that can later be looked back at and be thought of an achievement, with the memories you keep its priceless. My favourite thing about working in media is the sense of accomplishment and to be able to create something for someone makes you feel like you are somebody important and unique.

shireen atkinson ........................................................................ 04 atkins12@coventry.ac.uk

I have a true passion for the media, while studying media production I have achieved a number of skills for my future aspirations, In my six years of studying media I have learnt about all different categories in the media industry. I have formed an enthusiasm for film, my future career aspiration is to become a film director although I am very passionate about all forms of the media this is something that I will like to specialise in the future, and working in the media industry is everything to me. I aim to bring my own personal creativity to each production I take part in.

07 .......................................................................... Krishna Chauhan chauhank@coventry.ac.uk

Having studied the art of Media over several years has given me the opportunity to experience an innovative way of thinking as my ultimate goal now is to consider gaps in the market which media producers like myself can fill. Practicing essential skills within university projects such as broadcast and documentary production allowed me to acknowledge the areas I am strongest in, but more importantly defined what I enjoyed doing. Driving my passion forward was completing a work placement at Radio XL and being a volunteer organiser for charity event Music Builds Bridges (2010). Currently working on my final project which is a documentary film I hope to envision a reggae artist in an appealing way for it to stand as my most successful piece yet. I’m certain that the media industry is the correct career path I want to take as it’s given me the confidence to be approachable, original as well as network amongst people in order to be an ambitious individual.

Jack collins ..................................................................................... 08 collin58@coventry.ac.uk

When working with a camera it reminds me that I am attempting to capture what we see with our eyes. I usually begin a piece by picturing one specific event. I imagine how it could look, this is my starting point. I develop, contextualise and stylise it. A piece to me is done when I feel I can’t add more to improve it. Everyone one will take different things from it, so I aim to please my self and hope others like it. When a project is going well I can’t wait to get up in the morning and get on with it. I draw inspiration from what I see and hear everyday.

My name is Ross Jenkins and I was born in 1982 in the city of Coventry. I have always had a passion for the world in media whether it be in film, television or music. I decided to go to university to not only further my knowledge in the media industry, but to also gain technical skills and to develop on the skills I had previously gained. Although I was considered a mature student, I realised in order to progress and develop a career in this profession I needed to obtain a degree in media. I would like to say to any potential employers that I am a hardworking, conscientious individual and always give my all too any challenge thrown in front of me, I have a thirst for knowledge and growth as I am well aware this industry changes daily. To any potential employers out there, go on give me a chance you won’t regret it.

“If you find job you love you will never work again I found my passion for camera operator since the moment my grandfather gave me the camera. Every time I press record button I capture a moment that you can not reverse, but you can view and feel the feelings that arose at that moment once again. It enhances my creative spark. The experience I have received throughout 3 years studying Media Production was very valuable. I learned many things and met many amazing people. It gave me confidence to continue my journey by myself.

13 .................................................................................. jessica mason masonj7@coventry.ac.uk

I studied film and production at California State University Long Beach and Media production at Coventry University. I am really interested in working with all types of diverse media when I graduate. My final project focuses on combining interactivity and documentary to create short film with a group of young people. This project is a collaboration with the Brownies and combines a mixture of photography, sound and animation. I explore the ways in which the children imagine their lives when they grow up with a series of questions which focuses on ‘their future’.

thomas mellish ............................................................................. 14 mellisht@coventry.ac.uk

I believe that I will always gain some form of success from whatever I do. I hope to learn something new everyday upon leaving university. A small, green, galactic man once said - “Do, or do not. There is no ‘try’.” I love travelling and photography. Through opportunities I have been given at university, I have begun to favour documentary film making and locations managing, both of which I have had experience with abroad and wish to continue my skills in.That small green man was Yoda. Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back.

Being a 3rd year Media Producer I have certainly developed in many fields of ability such as working independently to meet targets and deadlines. As well as this I have learnt to use different methods of applying myself to work in ways which I wouldn’t usually. Being part of Dhol/Bhangra Blasters; an Indian drum and dance group for seven years has meant that I have experienced the music industry which fits into another form of media. Furthermore taking part and helping with the organisation of events such as 501 which was held in 2009; an attempt for the Guinness World Records which we successfully attained as well as taking part in organising charity event Music Build Bridges 2010 have all been factors which have contributed to me being able to apply myself to group work and to perform/communicate well in a team. Finally carrying out my work experience at The Drum, The National Centre for Black British Arts and Culture as a technician for a total of two months has enabled me to understand work in a professional environment.

Pasito tola ......................................................................................... 16 tolap@coventry.ac.uk

Hi I am Pasito TOLA from the democratic republic of Congo formally known as Zaire. I am easy going and hard working person well skilled in media production and postproduction. I do so many things in term of the media, the most common things that I love doing are filming, editing, designing and presetting shows in French and Lingala which is my mother tongue. About filming; I use Sony Z1, Z5, Z7 also I use canon 5d. When editing I use final cut pro, adobe premiere pro and avid but my favourite one is Adobe premiere pro. I also use adobe after effect and motion for graphic design. I can design website and flyers. All the years spent here at Coventry University as student helped me a lot to become a professional. Thanks to all staff.

My passion for creativity started out in fine art, which I studied at both GCSE and A level. This developed to a love of the practical side of media, with my main focus being animation, both stop motion and digital. My background in art definitely provides me with a lot of inspiration for my pieces. I also discovered a love of travelling and have produced video content for Primate sanctuaries across both Kenya and Uganda that promoted conservation. This is something that I would definitely like to continue in the future.

‘Cellar door’ beauty is my inspiration, drawn from the most unlikely places. Jessica Cooper is a 22 year old British conceptual photographer, having always been visual as a child, starting from doodles and sketching, the natural next step was to pursue this aspect of her life. Over time this evolved and fused her interests of philosophy and psychology and converted it into visual art form via short film and photography. Touching upon the new media culture which has become so integral to everyday life and how We, as society are being affected by the overloading flow of constant information and advertising. You can find more of her work at Jessikah.co.uk.

Joshua lewis .................................................................................... 20 lewisj11@coventry.ac.uk

I can honestly say I have a passion for excellence, much like Miranda Priestly in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. I care, because it’s my name on a product, and at the end of the day, I want my name to be on the best product possible. Over the years I have built a vast knowledge about photography, both with film and digital work-flows. When combining this with the practice of film-making, you get a mix of the best of both worlds. That, can make something really special.

For me, filmmaking is about pushing boundaries, giving the audience a visual experience that is challenging and exciting. I like to experiment with narrative, cinematography and the structure of film, to make something that is unforgettable, albeit at times a little weird! I think that the modern obsession with technology can at times stifle the creativity and raw expression that appeals to me most. I draw a lot of inspiration from written word; poetry and prose, as words leave much more to the imagination! A broken storyline, created from the first lines of fiction books, spanning genre, time and style, ’Chasing Her’ is a surreal, disjointed visualisation of obsession, spontaneity and a life with no purpose.

His media education began at an early age when he received a child-friendly camera for his birthday. Upon receiving critical acclaim from his peers (family) for his mature photography skills it was clear that media based work was young Daniels destiny. His education technically began in the latter years of high-school in a Media Studies class where he created a video-games magazine for girls. Progressing to College to study Media Production, Daniel then began to work behind the lens, shooting documentaries and music videos whilst learning the whole production process too. The two years at College proved to be the gateway for University life, further developing knowledge and technical skills working in all aspects of media, producing more documentaries, short films and TV shows. I am an award winning writer director for the films PAL, best film under 80 minutes at the Swansea Bay Film Festival which premiered at an Odeon cinema, and The Cupboard of Doom at the 48 Hour Film Challenge. I have been huge fan of cinema since spending my summer holidays helping my Dad in a video rentals store, and since then my days have been filled with movies, whether it is watching them, reading about them or making them. I am an avid collector of anything movie related and I take inspiration from all forms of cinema. I aspire to become known as the next Hitchcock, and produce cinematic movies worthy of that title.

Andy is a skilled and passionate media student, which is supported by his adventurous, and professional projects completed this year. He relishes the challenge of new opportunities, meeting new people and expanding his network. Andy’s dedication to his course and his chosen career is clearly demonstrated by his additional projects including advising businesses and sports societies with viral marketing campaigns, which have proven to be a great success. He enjoys applying theory in to working life projects and his ‘value adding’ mentality makes him a great asset to any team.

Lucy Wilson ........................................................................................ 58 wilson56@coventry.ac.uk

I am a short film and documentary maker; this is my first film that I have written and produced by myself. I used what was in the media around me to inspire my idea of conflicts in family relationships. I have used the idea of twin brothers who want the same things and the lengths that they will go to get what they want. I made the decision to take the audience on a journey with Harry so that you can see how his demeanour changes. When people view my work I would like them to connect with Harry and to go through his journey with him.

The direction within the industry that I would most like to take is within documentary. My inquisitive nature and interest in learning and researching different subject matter is the main reason why I find it so enjoyable. I am already working on my first major documentary which I hope will be successful and give me the experience to kick start my career. I think another factor that has influenced my career interests is the fact that I enjoy working outside and in different locations. This is the main reason I have chosen to do a travel documentary and why I enjoy working on set as an A.D on films instead of being in an office or on a studio set.

harinder khakh ...................................................................................... khakhh@coventry.ac.uk

My name is Harinder Singh and I am currently a final year student studying media production. I have enjoyed the past 3 years of my course thoroughly and learned and developed my skills through a wide range of theory and production work. What I enjoyed the most was mainly photography as well as making short documentaries and shooting film. As my final year comes to an end I have many options available to me and as my main interest is photography, I am looking to enter this field. Since December last year me and a partner have been taking pictures at weddings and thus far are going very well, I look to pursue this forward and become a success.

I am known by the name Aidah Kakonge Namazzi, a 22 year old student from Surrey. I came to Coventry University with basic knowledge about the world of media, and now I am over loaded with it. I aim to take this further and embark on becoming a Producer and if funding and finances allow, I plan to open a small Production company which will be based in my hometown. I have learnt a lot through my time in this university and I can certainly say my skills as an aspiring Producer and Industries manager will come in handy in the future, given the right opportunities. I am a strong minded and determined person who finds benefit in networking. I have met some interesting individuals and I have had many exciting experiences, but most of all the challenges were the highlight of my very long and rewarding journey. Many know me, or knew me as the quiet girl, but I say never under estimate the power of Silence & Composure so watch out for me.... Peace.

Dan Rowland’s Artist statement- my background is in fine art, I studied it at College, and that awakened my passion for creativity. I then went into media production with the intention of branching out my artistic abilities into the media of film. My fine art roots have been the driving force for the things I have produced while at University. I saw my final production as a great way of showing what my creative ability is, and a way of allowing my roots to come through. In the future, I see myself expanding on short film and returning to fine art- with a wider range of skills than what I had before.

thomas sell ............................................................................................... sellt@coventry.ac.uk

I am a student who mainly specialises in lighting. I have taken up many roles in the lighting area since I have been at Coventry University on a regular basis. For my final major project I am making a short film known as “Bathroom Fight” and I have also helped out in lighting roles on other students projects.

jennifer webb .................................................................................. 64 webbj4@coventry.ac.uk

I am Jennifer Webb and video editing is what I do best. I like how I can take raw footage and make it into something that draws people in and gets them to watch. Whatever the software may be, I like to challenge myself by exploring what each one has to offer and how it works to get me to the end point – even if it is unfamiliar. I could not edit without the ability to tell a story. This is something that is crucial when deciding what cuts to make and how to arrange what is left. With a solid plan - i.e. a story - there is something to work towards, providing a backbone throughout the whole process. What excites me most about video editing is the room for exploration and learning. Whilst working on a project, I always discover more techniques and tricks which can enhance my work.
