The Sun on Cross1
As we have already seen, the Sun on Cross is a very ancient Neolithic symbol, present in almost all cultures of the ancient world. It is also known as a Pagan Cross, Solar Cross, Wheel Cross, Odin's Cross or Woden's Cross. It was surely part of the early Neolithic culture of Kokino, as well as many ancient spiritual sites across Macedonia, such as Tzotze’s Rock, the Monastery of Zrze, where recent archeological findings suggest spiritual activity ever since the early Neolithic, then Treskavec near Prilep, and many other sanctuaries mostly built on rocks, following an ancient secret tradition. Their sole purpose is to maintain the communion with God, to sustain the living bond between the Holy Father, the Holy Mother and the Sons of Light, so that when the Sun is put on Cross, through the three days of darkness and death, the Sons of Light would descent into the Underworld, to retrieve their innocence, and thus reestablish the Cosmic union. With this ordeal the Earth would be saved from the peril of eternal death, and life would resurrect again on it… All of these are symbols that describe a deep mystery of the ancient lore, which can be detected in other myths, such as that of the Mayans, where much more is revealed regarding a cosmic event that has already happened and will obviously happen again. It seems that all mysteries and religions are simply trying to convey that message in a symbolic way; however, the ability to understand those symbols had been either well concealed or forgotten among the people. Allow me to introduce the reader with some extracts from a text titled “An End of Days, and The Sun is on the Cross” by C. Donald Martin2: It is like a large check mark on the calendar, a pointer aimed at 13.0.0.0.0, the "End Date" of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. From the Mayan point of view, this is the "End of Days." It is so significant that the calendar just comes to a stop. It is like having an alarm set when it's time to take your medicine. This date is also December 21, 2012, the day of 1 2

the Winter Solstice. But what is this check mark trying to tell us. Which medicine are we supposed to remember to take? The Mayan calendar was started in 3113 BC. But, most of the documents that could tell us what this calendar was for were destroyed long ago. In Mesoamerica, South America and on Easter Island, zealot priests destroyed almost all the written documents. Before that the library at Alexandria in Egypt was distorted by fire, several times. Almost all ancient history books in China were destroyed on the order of a dying emperor. Someone does not seem to want us to know where we come from or where we are going. Yet not all was lost. Writings on stone, lost to the world when the past was being destroyed, have since been found. In Mesopotamia were found thousands of clay tablets. On these tablets is the description of a society in which the government, economy and religion was controlled by one organization. This organization is a family of fallen gods. In Mesoamerica, the writings are on the temples, altars and other stone structures. Even better, in Mesoamerica, there still live the descendants of these ancient people. There are those that still follow the ancient ways. So here we are. Someone put this big check mark on the calendar. If there was a note telling us what the mark is for, it was destroyed with most of the history of the ancient world. So what is one to do? Look for clues. The Mayans are famous for their exceeding knowledge in mathematics and astronomy, their calendar being the master piece of their civilization. The Mayans were so familiar with the cycles of time, and its implications on their lives, as it seems, that they developed a complex system of incorporating time into their lives to and extend they named their children after the day they were born, had long periods of wearing certain colour, or using certain metal or mineral, all of which would seem like a nonsense to a modern observer, however, knowing what their focus was, would allow us to understand the marvel of their way of living. Apparently they knew that their lives can influence not just the present, but also the past and the future. Knowing that time repeated in cycles, and being aware of the intentions that shape the pattern by which these cycles develop, these people were very responsible with their lives in providing a safe blueprint by which history will develop. It seems that the Mayans appeared just in the right time, as everything else, to balance the evolution of consciousness on Earth. Let us proceed with the story to see what the Mayans knew about the Sun on Cross: One Morning A Baktun3 Ago

A baktun is 20 katun cycles of the ancient Maya Long Count Calendar. It contains 144,000 days or 400 tuns or nearly 400 tropical years. The Classic period of Maya civilization occurred during the 8th and 9th baktuns of the current calendrical cycle. The current (12th) baktun will end, or be completed, on 13.0.0.0.0 (December 21, 2012 using the GMT correlation). This also marks the beginning of the 13th baktun, as such a term is usually used among Mayanists.
It is December 14 of the year 1603 and the Sun rises into the morning sky as Venus comes out from behind the Sun. Both are near the center of the Milky Way, near where the ecliptic and the galactic equator cross. The Maya put much importance on this celestial crossing. It appears on the sarcophagus lid at Palenque. A baktun from now the winter solstice Sun will stand on this galactic crossing, an event that happens once every 25,920 years. This is the event that the check mark on the calendar seems to point to. But why is this of any importance? Venus does an interesting dance with the Sun as they twirl their way across the sky. Venus rushes past the Sun as it moves into the morning sky. Over the next 589 days Venus first rises above the Sun. It then pauses for a bit and slowly follows the Sun. It then passes behind the Sun and moves into the evening sky. Venus climbs high into the evening sky, as it follows the Sun to the horizon each night. After hanging above the Sun for a bit Venus plunges back into the morning sky. Venus and the Sun do this dance almost exactly five times in eight years. Venus passes across the face of the Sun on a longer cycle. There are two transits eight years apart every 113.5 and 129.5 years alternately. We are now, as we approach the "End of Days," in a time of these transits; 12.19.11.6.2, June 8, 2004 and 12.19.19.8.1, June 5, 2012. The Maya followed the movements of Venus with great care. Many ancient societies build great stone observatories to keep track of what the sky was doing. These great civil engineering projects were very expensive for the people that built them. Knowing the sky must have been very important to them. Ancient documents advise us to look for "Signs in the Sky." Should not the sky be as important to us? This may be where we find the message that tells us what the mark on the calendar is for. Above the Sun and Venus on this December day in 1603 are Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn as well as a red super giant star named Anteres. In the west Orion and Sirius have slipped below the horizon. These are to be the lead players in a celestial drama. The constellations of the Zodiac are the stage setting. We are invited to a performance of the "Theater of Millions of Years." In just 409 years these players will act in another chapter of this drama, a wedding procession to announce the beginning of a new age. Apparently, what the Sun on Cross refers to is this celestial phenomenon when the Sun will pass the cross between the galactic and ecliptic equators. According to the Mayans, this crossing was very important, since “this will be the closest the solstice occurs to this Cross for many years. It is said that there is a black hole at the center of the galaxy. We, on the other hand, are out toward the edge of the visible galaxy. It is estimated that we revolve around the J. Eric S. Thompson states that when a Long Count of, say, 9.15.10.0.0 is placed in the 9th baktun, we are almost certainly committing an error, like placing the year 2008 in the 2nd millennium. However, that practice is so well established among Maya epigraphers and other students of the Maya that to change it would cause more harm than its perpetuation.
center of the galaxy once in about two-hundred million years. There is so much galaxy between us and the center that it cannot be seen… …The World Cross or World Tree is where the ecliptic, the path of the Sun in the sky, and the galactic equator cross near the center of the galaxy. This Tree is seen in Mayan art, most famously, on the sarcophagus lid at Palenque. This tree is in the background, behind the goddess, in Card Number XVII of the Tarot, The Star. The image referred to with this extract is the Mayan symbol of the World Tree and the Sun on Cross shown above. One can clearly see a connection between the Tree of Life and the resurrection of the Son of God with the Mayan symbols of the World Tree and the Sun on Cross. After all, the Essenes believed that: “only the Son of Man carries in his body the roots of the Tree of Life; the same roots that suckle from the bosom of the Earthly Mother; and only the Son of Man carries in his spirit the branches of the Tree of Life; the same branches that reach to the sky, even so to the kingdom of the Heavenly Father”. If the World Tree or the Tree of Life is where the two equators meet in a Cross, and if the World Tree or the Tree of Life is the path to the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father, then what should an initiate do in order to reach there? The Mayans believed that when the Sun is on the Cross, there will be a great Flood, and it will last for three and a half years, some say days, when darkness will fall upon Earth. At this period the Earth will be in the hands of the Gods, who will play with it as with a ball, until a hero is found to be willing to sacrifice himself by descending to the Underworld and losing the battle to the gods of the Underworld, which by itself would “raise the sky of the new world”4. This sounds very similar to the story of Orpheus and his inability to save Eurydice from the Underworld. His decision to swear an oath5 that would later grow into a Mystery teaching can be seen as a symbolic representation for the mystery’s orientation to prepare the initiates for the Underworld, whose sacrifice, according to the Mayans, would bring new light to the world. Could there actually be a connection between the Orphic Mystery and the Essene teaching of ascetic devotion to the union between the Heavenly Father, the Earthly Mother and the Son of Man on one hand, as well as the Christian tradition of the Crucifixion, or the Son of God on Cross, who resurrects after three days of sojourn in the Underworld, with that of the Mayan

Although Maya creation accounts differ in detail, most tell of the defeat and sacrifice of one or more gods by the lords of the Underworld. In the Books of Chilam Balam, the gods of the thirteen heavens are captured and sacrificed by the nine gods of the Underworld. In the Popol Vuh, the maize god, Hun Hunapuh, the father of the hero twins, journeys to the Underworld, where he is defeated by its rulers in a ritual ball game and sacrificed. In the Dresden Codex, sacrifice of the maize god appears to be the very act that raises the sky of the new world. In the Popol Vuh, he is rescued by his sons, and it is his resurrection that renews of the world as painted in the San Bartolo Murals. The Kiché, still call the Milky Way Xibalbá be´ "road to the Underworld". (http://www.authenticmaya.com) 5
According to some versions of the story (notably Ovid's), Orpheus forswore the love of women after the death of Eurydice and took only youths as his lovers; he was reputed to be the one who introduced pederasty to the Thracians, teaching them to "love the young in the flower of their youth." According to a Late Antique summary of Aeschylus's lost play Bassarids, Orpheus at the end of his life disdained the worship of all gods save the sun, whom he called Apollo. (Wikipedia)
Flood myth6 on the other? What could the symbol of the Hidden Temple, the Secret Book, and the Holy Quest represent if not a preparation for the cosmic unity, a sacrifice depicted as the Orphic descent into the Underworld, to restore balance on Earth? If we combine these symbologies with the story revealed with the Mayan calendar, it turns out that in 2012 when the Sun is in the center of the Cross formed between the galactic and the ecliptic equators, there will be a three days/years of darkness on Earth, and a set of galactic events will take place that would enable the initiated into the Mysteries to descent into the Underworld, in order to retrieve innocence and restore balance in Heavens and on Earth, by climbing the Tree of Life to reach the Highest of Heavens. This is the process that the ancient mysteries referred to when they taught the skill of resurrection to their initiates. The resurrection is yet another symbolic story in the tradition of the ancient mysteries, which is in the core of the Christian faith, and which prepares the initiates to overcome death and thus restore Light on Earth. Ever since Christ’s teaching revealed the Mystery to all the people, many more became initiated into the Mystery. However, this time, as it seems, it will happen on a large scale, and many both initiated an uninitiated will descend into the Underworld, if they haven’t already, but only a few will resurrect. However, depending on the mystery that has shaped their being, some will be able to truly reach Heavens and thus start a process of ascension in waves that would allow all people to reach the Holy of Holies, through the Tree of Life, or the World Cross in the Mayan view. It is of highest importance how pure the hearts of the initiates have remained, how strong the Temple has become in their hearts, how clearly the Secret Book has been read, and how sacred their Holy Quest has sustained. That is all the mystery is about…

Among the Maya groups that left behind written testimonies during the Posclassic and Colonial periods, we find different accounts that revolve around the existence of a flood that wiped out the previous world and allowed for the creation of a new cosmological order. With the K’iche’, for instance, this flooding was produced by Uk’u’x Kaj (“Heart of the Sky”), or Juraqan, Mother and Father of the Gods, in order to annihilate the race of the men of wood (Recinos 1984:94-98; Christenson 2003:85-90). Bartolomé de las Casas (1967, II:507) also mentions that amongst the Q’eqchi’ people from Verapaz, “there was news about a flood and the end of the world, and they called it Butic, which means deluge of many waters and also judgment, and so they believe that another Butic is yet to come, which is another flood and judgment, not of water, but of fire, which they say has to be the end of the world, in which all creatures will fight each other …” (The Maya Flood Myth and the Decapitation of the Cosmic Caiman by ERIK VELÁSQUEZ GARCÍA)
