Prime Minister’s Message
I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the Global Petroleum Show and to welcome the many international delegates who have travelled to Calgary for this important event. During the twentieth century, access to plentiful and affordable energy transformed global society. Advances in health, education, technology, and transportation have all been made possible by this energy revolution. Petroleum products played a dominant role in this transformation, and oil and gas will undoubtedly continue to be important contributors for years to come. Canada offers a stable, democratic source of energy, and we are committed to developing our resources in a way that is environmentally responsible. The expansion of oil sands production and exciting discoveries in the North ensure that Canada will play an increasingly important role in meeting the world’s future energy needs. I am certain that everyone participating in this exhibition will appreciate the opportunity to network, discuss strategies, and view the latest equipment and technologies in the petroleum industry. I would like give special thanks to the organizers, sponsors, and volunteers who have contributed to making this show such a success. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my best wishes for a memorable and productive conference.
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P. Ottawa 2012 4
